Mark Gaughan reports for the Buffalo News when the Buffalo Bills released QB Rob Johnson earlier this off-season they saved $5.07 million in salary cap space for 2002. They turned around and signed seven free agents with a cap value of $5.04 million for 2002, LB London Fletcher, OT Trey Teague, TE Dave Moore, S Billy Jenkins, PK Mike Hollis, OT Marcus Price and TE Brady McDonnell.

Allen Wilson reports for the Buffalo News more details of the two-year contract agreed to with the Buffalo Bills by S Billy Jenkins. It included a signing bonus of $200,000 and base salaries of $525,000 in the first year and $750,000 the second.

Updating last night's story, Buffalo Bills.com reports the team has officially agreed to terms with free agent S Billy Jenkins (Packers). No terms were released by the team, but earlier reports had the deal as a two-year, $1.475 million contract.

According to John Clayton of ESPN, the Buffalo Bills have agreed to a two-year, $1.475 million contract with free agent S Billy Jenkins (Packers). His addition should allow the Bills to look at positions other than safety early in the NFL Draft.

Buffalo Bills.com reports free agent S Billy Jenkins (Packers) said Tuesday he has only met with the Bills to this point, but he has some other teams he would like to meet with. Jenkins said he left things with the Bills "up in the air." He added, "I would like to come to Buffalo and I would like to play here. It just depends on the variables."

The Press Gazette reports Green Bay Packers S Billy Jenkins made his first start as a member of the Packers in place of injured S Bhawoh Jue (ankle/rib) and was credited with five tackles and one important pass breakup against WR Terrell Owens. Jue is hopeful he'll improve enough during the week to be ready to play against St. Louis.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman said S Bwawoh Jue (ribs/ankle) wasn't able to do much again on Friday but Sherman believes he'll be able to play against the 49ers this weekend. If he cannot play, S Billy Jenkins would start in his place. Sherman said CB/KR Allen Rossum (knee) was looking very good and will handle punt returns this weekend. Rossum may be teamed up with Dorsey Levens on kickoff returns once again this weekend.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers starting S Bhawoh Jue (ribs) shared practice time with S Billy Jenkins during Thursday's practice. The team has not said which one will start this weekend. Jue said his ribs still bothered him, but that he was more concerned about his mental preparation.

Pete Dougherty reports for PackersNews.com S Bhawoh Jue (concussion/ribs/ankle) was sidelined for most drills Wednesday in practice. The team still expects him to play this weekend. Billy Jenkins practiced at safety with the No. 1 defense in his place. NT Gilbert Brown (toe) is back at practice this week after missing four of the last five games. The team is concerned Brown has the stamina to play 20 to 25 snaps after the layoff.

Updating an earlier story, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers KR/CB Allen Rossum (knee) didn't practice Friday and he probably is OUT for Sunday. S Billy Jenkins and LB K.D. Williams worked with the No. 1 defense for Bhawoh Jue (ankle) and Na'il Diggs (knee), but both Jue and Diggs should play Sunday.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers have re-signed S Billy Jenkins. His one-year deal was worth a prorated $448,000. Jenkins will serve as the backup to free safety Bhawoh Jue. Matt Bowen will back up strong safety Darren Sharper.

Tom Silverstein reports for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the Green Bay Packers will place S LeRoy Butler (shoulder) on injured reserve tomorrow so they can add free agent Billy Jenkins to the roster. Jenkins, who was released four weeks ago by the Denver Broncos, will sign a prorated, one-year deal worth $448,000 with no signing bonus. Butler said he was already planning his comeback for 2002.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman said he has already spoken to vice president of football operations Mark Hatley about signing a replacement for S LeRoy Butler (shoulder), who may be out for the rest of the season. Among the free-agent safeties the team may be interested in looking at are Mark Carrier, Billy Jenkins, Marty Carter, Mike Dumas, Henry Jones and Greg Jeffries. Jenkins is probably the best athlete of the bunch, although he is more of a run-supporting strong safety than a free safety.

The Associated Press reports the Houston Texans held their first workouts today for prospects for the 2002 season. Billy Jenkins, who played for the 1999 St. Louis Rams, and Kevin Williams, formerly with the New York Jets, were among 13 defensive backs who had workouts today. Workouts are being held in the Astrodome while the practice fields are being sodded. The Texans can begin signing free agents on December 27. The team's next chance to get players will be in the expansion draft on February 18 and they will get the first overall pick in the college draft on April 20.

The Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers were scheduled to workout former Denver Broncos S Billy Jenkins earlier today. The Cleveland Browns have also shown interest in him. "We haven't had any discussions with them yet," said agent Ben Dogra, who along with Jim Steiner represents Jenkins. He was scheduled to workout for Cleveland too.

According to the Associated Press three more Denver Broncos went dowm with injuries today at practice. CB Eric Davis has a groin injury, rookie DE Paul Toviessi injured his right knee, and TE Billy Miller hurt his shoulder. The Broncos scheduled an MRI on Toviessi's right knee to determine the severity of the injury. Miller hurt his shoulder in a collision with S Billy Jenkins in the afternoon.

The Denver Post reports the Denver Broncos players are excited about the new defensive philosophy defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes is bringing into play for them this year. The players are stating it's attack mode from the get go this year. According to S Billy Jenkins, Rhodes new scheme is set to free up a lot of players to make plays for the team.

The league took no action against Broncos OL Dan Neil for what the Ravens insisted was an attempt by him to break the leg of LB Ray Lewis.

The Rams official web site is reporting the St. Louis Rams have waived S Toby Wright. "This was not an easy decision. There had been concern during free agency about Toby's recovery from his knee injury. Billy Jenkins' development at strong safety and the addition of Devin Bush during free agency gives us what we need at the position," head coach Dick Vermeil stated.
