Steelers | Isaac Redman played with concussion

Thu, 26 Sep 2013 12:20:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman (concussion) said he returned to the team's Week 3 game with a concussion, after telling the doctors he was OK. "I had a concussion," Redman said Wednesday. "I was pretty much out of it the rest of the game. I just tried to go back in."

Steelers | Isaac Redman said he was allowed to play with concussion

Thu, 26 Sep 2013 07:23:29 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman (concussion) said he had a concussion in Week 2 and was allowed to go back in the game. "I had a concussion," Redman said. "I was pretty much out of it the rest of the game. I just tried to go back in." When asked how he beat the tests knowing he had a concussion, Redman said: "I said I was all right."

Fantasy Tip: These comments aren't likely to restore his place on the depth chart. Redman doesn't have much value right now, and after these comments, we could see him receive his walking papers.

Steelers | Isaac Redman sinks to bottom of depth chart

Tue, 24 Sep 2013 12:45:01 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman, the team's Week 1 starter at running back, is now listed as fourth on the depth chart behind RBs Felix Jones, Le'Veon Bell (foot) and Jonathan Dwyer, in that order. Jones is the team's leading rusher with 71 yards and is averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Bell is expected to play in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, but they'll likely ease him back into the mix.

Fantasy Tip: With Pitt's bye week in Week 5, they won't want to put too much on the shoulders of Bell immediately. He's the best back to own in this backfield long term, but Jones is probably the better play against the Vikes.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell expected to play

Tue, 24 Sep 2013 09:49:07 -0700

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is expected to play in the team's Week 4 game in London against the Minnesota Vikings. Bell has progressed ahead of schedule from his injury.

Fantasy Tip: Bell may not be 100 percent this weekend, but it looks like there's a good chance he'll be on the field. A combination of Felix Jones, Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman haven't gotten it done in three weeks. Dwyer looked solid last week, however, so he may split the carries with Bell this weekend.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell practices in full

Thu, 19 Sep 2013 13:32:03 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 19. However, Bell doesn't think he'll be able to play in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Great news for Bell owners. However, the Steelers could opt to be cautious and keep him out until after their Week 5 bye. Until then, Felix Jones and Isaac Redman will likely share the backfield duties. Neither running back is a very exciting flex play behind a patchwork offensive line.

Steelers | Jonathan Dwyer's role unclear

Thu, 12 Sep 2013 10:53:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer is unsure what his role will be heading into Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. "They told me to get ready and play," Dwyer said. "I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I'm just getting myself ready to play." The Steelers finished with only 32 total rushing yards in Week 1, the second lowest around the league, and RB Isaac Redman fumbled twice and had only eight carries for nine yards.

Fantasy Tip: Redman has already been named the starter for Week 2, but that could change depending on how he fares early on. Dwyer is comfortable with the team and led them in rushing last year, so it's conceivable that he could become fantasy-relevant in a hurry with Le'Veon Bell (foot) out another month. Felix Jones hasn't been a quick study of the offense. Get Dwyer on the cheap if you're speculating and are in need of RB depth.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell could miss more time

Wed, 11 Sep 2013 07:56:48 -0700

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's (foot) injury is now being classified as a Lisfranc sprain, according to a source. The team is now hoping he returns in a month.

Fantasy Tip: Well, so much for those Week 3 hopes. The team has a bye in Week 5, and they'll play the New York Jets in Week 6. Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer and Felix Jones will continue to share the work, with Redman the starter. Try to hold onto Bell for a few more weeks, but understand these things could eventually mean a lost season.

Steelers | Jonathan Dwyer's role unclear

Tue, 10 Sep 2013 10:34:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin would not indicate what kind of role RB Jonathan Dwyer would have in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. "That depends on his dependability," Tomlin said. "We'll play it by ear and see how he looks on the practice field and in the classroom." RB Isaac Redman will start the game.

Fantasy Tip: Le'Veon Bell (foot) is out another week, but he could return soon, so Dwyer doesn't have much short-term or long-term value. Leave him to the waiver wire unless something changes.

Steelers | Isaac Redman will start in Week 2

Tue, 10 Sep 2013 09:32:06 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman will get the start at running back in the team's Week 2 game, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: After having a terrible Week 1 that saw Redman carry the ball eight times for 9 yards, itís tough to say he is worth a start here. Look elsewhere if you have other options.

Steelers | Jonathan Dwyer returning

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 05:15:17 -0700

The Pittsburgh Steelers will re-sign RB Jonathan Dwyer.

Fantasy Tip: He's worth a speculative add. Isaac Redman fumbled and didn't do much in Week 1. Felix Jones didn't see a carry, and LaRod Stephens-Howling (knee) is out for the season. Dwyer could step right in and have a prominent role.

Steelers | RBs lay an egg

Sun, 08 Sep 2013 13:25:41 -0700

Steelers | Felix Jones, LaRod Stephens-Howling to see time

Wed, 04 Sep 2013 15:12:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling likely will receive playing time Week 1 even though RB Isaac Redman will start the game. Stephens-Howling is expected to be the third-down back, while Jones likely will receive time when Redman needs a break.

Steelers | Isaac Redman to start

Tue, 03 Sep 2013 13:06:13 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman will start at running back for the team in Week 1, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. "We know what Isaac is capable of. He's answered the bell for us in the past," Tomlin said at his weekly news conference. "We expect him to do it in a big way moving forward."

Fantasy Tip: While Redman will get the start, it is likely that the Steelers will still give Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling carries at times. While there is something to be said for any starting running back having value, this one still has a lot of uncertainty around it.

Steelers | Isaac Redman expects to start

Mon, 02 Sep 2013 11:23:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman said he expects to start while RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is out of the lineup. Redman said the coaches do not want to use a committee at running back, and he does not want to give them a reason to use a committee.

Fantasy Tip: If Redman does get the start, he will still have to share some carries with Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling. Redman probably would be a flex option if he is the team's starting running back.

Steelers | Felix Jones expected to start

Mon, 02 Sep 2013 05:49:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Felix Jones is expected to start Week 1. He likely vaulted ahead of RBs Isaac Redman and LaRod Stephens-Howling with 14 carries for 56 yards in the final preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Here's another interesting twist in the Pittsburgh camp. If Jones lands the starting gig, he'd make for an RB3 until Le'Veon Bell (foot) returns. The zone-blocking scheme could serve him well, and who knows? Maybe this late bloomer could take off.

Steelers | Isaac Redman to sit Thursday

Wed, 28 Aug 2013 09:03:10 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that RB Isaac Redman (pinched nerve) will miss a third straight preseason game Thursday, Aug. 29. Redman feels that being sat out is a sign the head coach plans to use him in Week 1. "If they're throwing you out there in a preseason game and making you play and compete when you're injured, that's not a good sign," Redman said. "To sit you and give you that rest you need to come in for Week 1, it tells you a lot about what they think of you."

Steelers | Isaac Redman expected to start

Tue, 27 Aug 2013 09:45:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman is expected to start while RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) recovers from his foot injury. RBs Jonathan Dwyer and LaRod Stephens-Howling will serve as the backups.

Fantasy Tip: Redman has some low-end RB2 or flex fantasy appeal if he does indeed start in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, who ranked dead-last in the NFL against the rush last season by allowing 178.0 yards per game.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell injury update

Wed, 21 Aug 2013 11:14:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Pittsburgh Steelers believe RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) has a Lisfranc injury but are hoping he will not need surgery. The team will not know if he will need surgery until he gets his second opinion.

Fantasy Tip: There is a chance Bell could miss a significant amount of playing time and could miss the entire season if he needs surgery. Bell probably should not be considered until later rounds of drafts because of the injury. Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer should be moved up draft boards because they could start this season.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell expected to miss several weeks

Wed, 21 Aug 2013 10:21:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) is expected to miss at least several weeks because of the foot injury he suffered in the second preseason game. The team has not completely diagnosed Bell's injury at this point.

Fantasy Tip: If Bell is not able to play Week 1, Isaac Redman or Jonathan Dwyer likely would get the start. Either would be considered a flex option if they got the start. It is not known how long Bell will be out, so owners could drop him down their draft boards because of the injury. He should be seen as a low-end No. 2 or high-end No. 3 running back for now. Steelers | More on Le'Veon Bell

Thu, 15 Aug 2013 16:30:34 -0700

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) aggravated his left knee Thursday, Aug. 15, when a teammate hit him in a non-contact drill. Bell didn't take another snap and had his left leg heavily wrapped after practice.

Fantasy Tip: Monitor Bell's progress over the next few days, but this injury doesn't appear to be too serious. Isaac Redman would be the next man up if Bell misses time. Jonathan Dwyer is also a possibility. Bell, if healthy, will receive the lion's share of the workload out of the backfield, though, making Redman and Dwyer unnatractive in most drafts.

Wed, 14 Aug 2013 06:50:18 -0700

The Pittsburgh Steelers list RB Isaac Redman or RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) as their first-team running back heading into the second preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: We wouldn't worry yet, as Bell has been limited in practice due to a knee ailment. However, it's something to pay attention to over the next couple of weeks.

Steelers | No depth chart for RBs

Wed, 12 Jun 2013 12:08:55 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson said the team does not really have a running back depth chart at this point. "There really is no pecking order other than that's how we ended the season. Guys are jumping in accordingly and rotating themselves. There really is no rhyme or reason to it," Wilson said. RB Jonathan Dwyer will enter training camp as No. 1 on the depth chart because he finished last season there.

Fantasy Tip: Le'Veon Bell is expected to be the frontrunner for the starting job at this point, but Dwyer and Isaac Redman will also be competing for the job. Bell could be a low-end No. 2 running back as well as a flex option depending on the matchup if he is the starter. Redman and Dwyer probably would be week flex options if one of them wins the starting job.

Steelers | New blocking scheme in the works

Fri, 24 May 2013 10:00:44 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. is installing an outside zone, one-cut blocking scheme in organized team activities in favor of their old power and inside blocking scheme. The Steelers are changing their approach to take advantage of their big and nimble offensive line personnel. Pittsburgh got poor production from their running backs last year, and RB Jonathan Dwyer led the team in rushing with only 623 yards, the lowest total by a rusher in team history since Merrill Hoge ran for 810 in 1991. Bicknell had success with the blocking scheme with the Kansas City Chiefs last year. "We are going to be dedicated to the zone," RB Isaac Redman said. "We are still going to be a power team, but we are going to have this zone scheme in so we can keep the defense on its heels and keep them running."

Fantasy Tip: This new scheme should make Dwyer more productive, but many wonder if he has what it takes to be an every-down back in the NFL. Le'Veon Bell and Redman will spell him plenty, probably. Dwyer, as a result, is likely nothing more than a midrange No. 3 running back. Bell is worth a mid- to late-round pick, too.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell's understanding of offense will decide role

Sun, 19 May 2013 11:51:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's chance at starting this season will be determined by how quickly he will be able to pick up the offense. If Bell struggles to learn the offense, RB Jonathan Dwyer or RB Isaac Redman could start.

Steelers | Isaac Redman could have edge in No. 2 RB job

Wed, 01 May 2013 11:52:16 -0700

Steelers | Two RBs considered complementary backs

Wed, 24 Apr 2013 10:54:59 -0700

The Pittsburgh Steelers consider RBs Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer better suited as complementary backs and are looking to add a starting running back in the 2013 NFL Draft or free agency.

Fantasy Tip: The fantasy value of Redman and Dwyer would take big hits if they do become backups to another running back. They probably would still be in the mix for carries but their statuses will be better known later this offseason. The Steelers' No. 2 running back would have mild fantasy value.

Steelers | Not running the ball enough

Thu, 20 Dec 2012 09:22:40 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman feels the offense has abandoned the running game in recent weeks. The Steelers have 17 rushes in each of their past two games - the first time the team has had fewer than 20 rushing attempts in consecutive games since 1991. Pittsburgh's 34 rushing attempts the previous two weeks were the fewest in the NFL, and their 138 yards rushing over that span is third-worst in the league. "Some games, it feels like we just go away from it," Redman said. "We didn't run the ball bad (against the Dallas Cowboys), we weren't getting smashed the last game, we just didn't run it that much. We had 16 or 17 runs. When we were winning games, we were up in the 30 mark and we pretty much win when we do that. Hopefully, we can get back to that."
