When organized team activities (OTAs) open Tuesday, May 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have at least three new faces among the starters. LB Jason Worilds is in for the departed James Harrison (Bengals) at outside lineback, NT Steve McLendon is in for free-agent Casey Hampton at nose tackle, and CB Cortez Allen takes over for CB Keenan Lewis (Saints) at cornerback.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have offered restricted free-agent RB Jonathan Dwyer, RB Isaac Redman and DT Steve McLendon the lowest tender. Each player could receive a one-year deal worth $1.323 million if they signed their tender. The team could receive a sixth-round draft choice if they lost Dwyer and will have the right to match any offer Redman or McLendon receives this offseason.

Pittsburgh Steelers DT Steve McLendon said he believes he can be a starting nose tackle even though he weighs 280 pounds. "People may say I am not the classic nose tackle, but what is the classic nose tackle. Some nose tackles are big, some small. If you look at Jay Ratliff for the Cowboys he is not a big nose tackle, but he plays very well. You look at [DT Casey Hampton] and he is a big nose tackle and plays well. I figure I will be in between. If I can move quick at nose and play strong at nose, it's all going to work itself out for me," McLendon said.

Pittsburgh Steelers DL Steve McLendon could start at nose tackle in Week 1 with DL Casey Hampton (knee) likely to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. "Everybody wants to discard McLendon. Let me tell you this, hold your opinion until the season is over," defensive line coach John Mitchell said. "I'm just saying keep your opinion until after the season, (then) you make the decision."
