Mariners | Brandon League loses closer job for now

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said RP Brandon League will not be the closer for the time being and will be used in other situations. Wedge did not name a temporary replacement and will decide on who will close a game based on the situation. RPs Tom Wilhelmsen, Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetge appear to be obvious candidates to get save opportunities but RPs Shawn Kelley and Steve Delabar could also get chances.

Fantasy Tip: Since League was the only pitcher in the Mariners' bullpen to have a save this season, it is not clear who will get the ball in save situations moving forward. Tom Wilhelmsen could get the first chance because he has been the setup man for the team this season. None of the relievers appear to be good long-term options since Wedge believes League will have the job again at some point this season.

The Seattle Mariners recalled RP Shawn Kelley from Triple-A Tacoma Saturday, May 5. "I feel good right now," Kelley said. "My arm strength's good. I feel healthy." He had partial Tommy John surgery in August 2010, and has appeared in just a handful of big league games since.

The Seattle Mariners will have their first intrasquad game Friday, Feb. 24, and pitching coach Carl Willis will have left-handed SPs Danny Hultzen facing Jason Vargas. Ps Shawn Camp, Steve Delabar, Charlie Furbish, Aaron Heilman, Oliver Perez and Chance Ruffin will follow Vargas. Shawn Kelley, Cesar Jimenez, Hong-Chih Kuo, Lucas Luetge, James Paxton, Erasmo Ramirez and Taijuan Walker will follow Hultzen.
