Updating a previous report, the Washington Redskins signed free-agent PK Neil Rackers (Texans) to a one-year deal Tuesday, April 24. He is expected to compete with PK Graham Gano for the starting placekicking chores in training camp.

Washington Redskins PK Graham Gano (back) suffered two fractured bones in his lower back in Week 17 and has been rehabbing the injury since the end of the season. His recovery time is expected to be six to eight weeks.

The Washington Redskins had a field goal and extra point blocked in Week 12, but head coach Mike Shanahan said Tuesday, Nov. 29, that PK Graham Gano was not to blame. Shanahan reiterated he is staying with Gano, who has struggled over his first two seasons. "Sometimes it's a tough decisions – do you go with a young guy like Graham? Is he going to keep on getting better or is he not going to take advantage of opportunities? I don't know," Shanahan said.
