The Houston Texans could place the franchise tag on impending free-agent FS Glover Quin if they can't sign him to a long-term deal but would have to restructure a deal or two to fit him under the salary cap. The team is currently $5.768 million under the cap and the franchise tag tender for safeties is about $7 million.

Houston Texans WR Jacoby Jones (knee), who is a New Orleans native, was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 23, but head coach Gary Kubiak seemed optimistic about his outlook for Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints. "It looks like we're heading in the right direction," Kubiak said. If Jones cannot play, WR Bryant Johnson and CB Glover Quin would likely be next in line for punt returns.

Houston Texans CB Glover Quin said he is fine with the possibility of moving to safety this season because the coaches have watch film and know what he is best at in regards to his play. Quin is hoping that a possible position change could help him get more interceptions.

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith said he believes CB Glover Quin has the ability to become a good safety but is not sure if the team will move Quin from cornerback to safety at this point, reports Nick Scurfield, of HoustonTexans.com. "If you turn the tape on even from last year, he played in the nickel, so he's played in the slot," Smith said. "He's played inside, and what you see right off the bat is a guy that will go in and tackle and be physical. That's obviously one of the prerequisites for the safety position different from the corner position, and he's demonstrated the ability to go in and do that. He's obviously got the range because he's playing out on the edge at corner now, so you know he's playing fast enough and has the cover skills to go inside and play."

The Houston Texans might move CB Glover Quin to free safety, but only if they can get the cornerback they want in the draft or whenever free agency starts, reports John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle. "I think he can, but he's our best corner," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "Until we feel comfortable out there, we're not going to move him and create another issue."
