The Detroit Lions signed LB Ashlee Palmer to a two-year contract extension before the end of the regular season. Palmer is scheduled to make $1 million in 2013 and $1.25 million in 2014.

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham said he doesn't plan to play any young backups in the final three weeks to get them ready for potential roles next year. "I'd like all those guys to play, but it's about winning," Cunningham said. "It doesn't matter what your record is, you have to go out there every game. It's called professional football for a reason. I've never done that, I don't like doing it." Starting OLB's Justin Durant and DeAndre Levy and top backup Ashlee Palmer will be unrestricted free agents after the season.
