The Cleveland Browns placed TE E. Alex Smith (shoulder) and LB Titus Brown (knee) on the Injured Reserve Tuesday, Dec. 20. Smith will not need surgery for a "significant" shoulder injury. Brown will undergo surgery on his knee. The team signed free-agent TE Dan Gronkowski (Patriots) and promoted LB Brian Smith to the active roster.

The team also released WR David Anderson. RB Brandon Minor (undisclosed), WR Jamel Hamler (back) and CB Syd'Quan Thompson (Achilles') were placed on Injured Reserve, ending their 2011 seasons.
