Texans | Brian Hoyer commits five turnovers

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 17:23:47 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer completed 15 of 34 passes for 136 yards and four interceptions and lost a fumble in a 30-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer picked a bad time to have his worst outing of the season. He was one of four quarterbacks used by Houston this season, and there is a good chance the Texans will be in the market for a new signal caller during the offseason.

Texans | Brian Hoyer leads team to playoffs

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 18:32:42 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer completed 25 of his 40 pass attempts for 249 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer isn't flashy, but he and his Texans won the AFC South Division title and will play in the wild-card round next weekend. If you're looking for a cheap FantasyScore option with some upside, he might be a sneaky play while allowing you to spend big at other positions.

Texans | Brian Hoyer should play

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 14:35:29 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) will return to the lineup after missing the last game because of a concussion. Hoyer played well in the few games before the concussion and could be a solid starting option for owners because the Jaguars have struggled against quarterbacks at times this season.

Texans | Brian Hoyer practices Thursday

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 15:31:09 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) will return to the starting lineup after he missed the last game because of a concussion. He will have a favorable matchup this week, but most owners should be able to find better options to use.

Texans | Brian Hoyer puts in full practice

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:36:18 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) took part in a full practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has cleared the concussion protocol and will start against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He could be rusty, but you can't argue with his excellent matchup that makes him worth considering as a sleeper QB on FantasyScore.

Texans | Brian Hoyer to play in Week 17

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 11:55:13 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will return as the starting quarterback in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) hasn't played since Dec. 13 against the New England Patriots, but he returns to a juicy matchup against the Jags. They allow the fourth-most fantasy points (24.4) per game to quarterbacks this year. Hoyer would qualify as a sleeper pick at the position, but he comes with plenty of risk because of his injury.

Texans | Brian Hoyer to be cleared

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 06:45:06 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is expected to receive clearance from the concussion protocol and practice Wednesday, Dec. 30. He's starting in Week 17, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) is a questionable start on FantasyScore, but he is facing the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Texans | Brian Hoyer to start if healthy

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 14:30:50 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion), who is in the final stages of the concussion protocol, will be the starter in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars if he passes in time, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. Even if the Texans clinch the AFC South division Monday, Dec. 28, they will start Hoyer if he's cleared. O'Brien said he will not rest players against the Jaguars. "I think the most important thing is to win," O'Brien said. "I don't think there's any substitute for winning."

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer hasn't played since earlier this month, so there is plenty of reason to be skeptical about using him if he returns to face the Jags in Week 17. However, Jacksonville allows the fourth-most fantasy points (24.4) per game to quarterbacks this season. That at least makes Hoyer in consideration as a deep sleeper pick to save you some money.

Texans | Brandon Weeden starting Sunday

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 07:46:38 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brandon Weeden will start Week 16's game against the Tennessee Titans, with recently-signed B.J. Daniels serving as the No. 2 quarterback. QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) has been ruled out.

Fantasy Tip: Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) went 11-for-18 for 105 yards and a touchdown in relief of T.J. Yates during Week 15's game against the Indianapolis Colts but he is not a recommended starting option in any fantasy format. Hoyer traveled with the team to Tennessee but wasn't cleared to resume playing.

Texans | Brian Hoyer not officially ruled out

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 10:36:53 -0800

Contrary to a previous report, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is traveling with the Texans and has not officially been ruled out for Week 16. He has still not been cleared to play, however.

Fantasy Tip: The odds still seem against Hoyer to play, in which case Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will start. If Weeden does start, he's not worth a starting spot on FantasyScore or in your championship matchup.

Texans | Brian Hoyer will not play

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 07:35:13 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will not play against the Tennessee Titans in Week 16 because he still has not received clearance to play, according to a source. QB Brandon Weeden will serve as the starting quarterback for the team.

Fantasy Tip: Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) probably will not be asked to throw much during the game but does have some solid weapons to work with in the passing game. Weeden is not a strong fantasy option and could be avoided in most leagues.

Texans | Brian Hoyer not expected to play

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 07:20:48 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is making good progress but is not expected to play against the Tennessee Titans in Week 16. Hoyer is on track to play in the Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) likely will be the starting quarterback this week and played well in relief in Week 15. Weeden is not a great fantasy option, and owners should be able to find better options to use.

Texans | Brian Hoyer questionable

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 17:06:44 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 25, and is listed as questionable for the Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) still needs to be cleared to play in order to start this week. Hoyer is not a great option if he is active for the game, so owners should look for other options.

Texans | Brian Hoyer limited again

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 15:12:12 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) still has not been cleared to play at this point, so owners should keep an eye out on the situation for the next few days. Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) would start if Hoyer is not able to play, but neither quarterback is a strong fantasy option.

Texans | Brian Hoyer still not cleared

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 14:37:44 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 23, but he is still in the concussion protocol and hasn't been fully cleared.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is too big of a risk to take on FantasyScore this weekend. Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) isn't a viable starting option in fantasy if he receives a start, either.

Texans | Brian Hoyer may practice Wednesday

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 06:54:09 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is expected to practice Wednesday, Dec. 23, but he hasn't been cleared from the concussion protocol yet.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) nor Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) would be good starts against the Tennessee Titans on FantasyScore this week.

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 16:35:19 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is scheduled to meet with an independent neurologist Tuesday, Dec. 22, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer is a starting option for the Texans this week against the Tennessee Titans if he receives clearance to play. Owners will need to monitor the situation to see if Hoyer or Brandon Weeden will start at quarterback. Owners should be able to find better starting options no matter which quarterback starts.

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 10:12:32 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is still going through the concussion protocol but is making some progress in his recovery, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to monitor Hoyer's progress during the week to see if he has a chance to play in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans. Brandon Weeden would start if Hoyer is ruled out for another game, but neither quarterback is a strong fantasy option.

Texans | Brian Hoyer worried

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 10:56:36 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is worried that his concussion and other injuries could keep him out for a while.

Fantasy Tip: This is Hoyer's ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) second concussion this year, so the Texans will surely play it cautious with him, and there's a chance he won't play again this year. For that reason, you can probably cut bait on him in traditional leagues. T.J. Yates ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is the starter for now, but he has a very limited fantasy ceiling.

Texans | Brian Hoyer ruled out

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 10:41:43 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 15 against the Indianapolis Colts. QB T.J. Yates will start the game.

Fantasy Tip: Yates ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has been adequate in guiding the Texans to several wins this year, but his fantasy ceiling is limited. You should downgrade all of Houston's receivers as a result, but DeAndre Hopkins remains a must-start in traditional leagues. Indy is a great matchup for quarterbacks this year, but Yates is still a dart throw in daily formats.

Texans | Brian Hoyer doubtful for Week 15

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 13:24:00 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, neck, wrist) is doubtful to play in Week 15 against the Indianapolis Colts after he suffered his second concussion of the season in Week 14, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. Hoyer was sacked five times against the New England Patriots. He suffered memory loss when he had a concussion against the Cincinnati Bengals Nov. 16. QB T.J. Yates is being prepared to start against the Colts.

Fantasy Tip: The Colts are one of the best fantasy matchups for quarterbacks, and although Yates will be dirt cheap on FantasyScore, he's still too risky to trust. Houston's receiving game will take a hit with Yates in there, although DeAndre Hopkins is still a must-start in traditional leagues.

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 11:06:05 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, neck) is also dealing with a neck strain in addition to his second concussion of the season, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: T.J. Yates is already expected to start next week against the Indianapolis Colts. Yates is a very low-end starting fantasy quarterback, though.

Houston Texans QB T.J. Yates is preparing to start Sunday, Dec. 20, with QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) sidelined with a concussion, according to a source.

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 22:48:13 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) left the Week 14 game against the New England Patriots in the second half due to a possible concussion.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer completed 11 of his 22 passes for 155 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions before departing. If he cannot go in Week 15 at Indianapolis it would be T.J. Yates getting the nod.

Texans | Brian Hoyer plays well in Week 13

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 14:08:03 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer went 26-for-43 for 293 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has thrown five touchdowns in his last two games but has also thrown an interception in four of his last five games. He will be facing the New England Patriots in Week 14 and will not be the best option for fantasy owners.

Texans | Three Houston players probable

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 12:46:25 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion), RB Chris Polk (knee, hamstring) and WR Nate Washington (hip) are listed as probable for Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,600, 13.2% of cap), Polk ($2,500, 5.0%) and Washington ($4,000, 8.0%) all have really good matchups against the New Orleans Saints this week. Polk and Washington are too unreliable to consider starting, but Hoyer makes for a nice sleeper at quarterback as the Saints have allowed a league-high 28 touchdown passes to quarterbacks in 2015.

Texans | Three Texans fully practice Thursday

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 16:22:37 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion), RB Chris Polk (knee, hamstring) and WR Nate Washington (hip) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: All three of these guys have really good matchups against one of the worst fantasy defenses in the league this year in the New Orleans Saints. Polk and Washington aren't too reliable, though, but Hoyer could be a nice sleeper play on FantasyScore in Week 12 as the Saints have allowed a league-high 28 touchdown passes to quarterbacks this year.

Texans | Brian Hoyer is nice FS sleeper

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 21:55:38 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is set to return in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints, and he will face the NFL's 31st-ranked pass defense. The Saints allowed 293.1 yards per game, and an NFL-high 28 passing touchdown. The Saints are also worst in the league allowed 44 pass plays of 20 or more yards, and 13 pass plays of 40 or more yards.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) is not a top-notch FantasyScore option normally, but he is a must-start since he is facing the leaky Saints pass defense.

Texans | Two Texans have full practice

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 14:33:34 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) and WR Nate Washington (hip) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Hoyer ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) and Washington ($4,000, 8.0%) will be good to go in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints. The whole Texans' offense has a great matchup versus New Orleans, but Washington may be the odd one out as he has played inconsistently this year. Hoyer is worth a start, though.

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 12:34:41 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will start in Week 12 after passing his final concussion test, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer and the Texans have a tremendous matchup against the New Orleans Saints next week. He's not a top-tier starter, but he could still put up big numbers on Sunday.

Texans | Brian Hoyer to start when healthy

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 22:56:07 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will remain the starting quarterback when he is healthy, head coach Bill O'Brien said Sunday, Nov. 22. Hoyer's concussion symptoms have subsided and he is expected to start in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints. "Hoyer is our starter," O'Brien said. "When he comes back, when he's healthy, he'll come back in there and we've spoken to T.J. about that."

Fantasy Tip: T.J. Yates has led the team to consecutive wins while subbing for the injured Hoyer. Whichever quarterback starts in Week 12 faces a very favorable matchup against a Saints pass defense which has been very poor this season.

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 11:25:30 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) has been in meetings and watching practice this week, and head coach Bill O'Brien is optimistic about Hoyer returning for Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: T.J. Yates ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has a tough draw against the New York Jets, and he isn't a great FantasyScore option this week.

Texans | Brian Hoyer out

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 09:22:01 -0800

Updating an ongoing story, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) won't play in Week 11 because he suffered memory loss from a concussion he sustained in Week 10. He should return in Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: T.J. Yates ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) draws the start against the New York Jets. He probably shouldn't start for your FantasyScore lineup.

Texans | Brian Hoyer unlikely to start

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 15:12:27 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is unlikely to start in Week 11 against the New York Jets, according to sources, which means QB T.J. Yates is expected to start.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets defense has faltered of late, but if Yates ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) indeed starts, you'll need to downgrade Houston's offensive weapons -- mainly DeAndre Hopkins ($8,800, 17.6% of cap). Don't get cute and think of using Yates as a deep sleeper, either.

Texans | Brian Hoyer needs to practice

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 11:48:31 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will need to practice at least once this week in order to start in Week 11 against the New York Jets. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Hoyer is questionable for now.

Fantasy Tip: If Hoyer ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) isn't cleared to play, T.J. Yates ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) would be in line for the start. The Jets defense has tailed off in recent weeks, but neither Hoyer or Yates should give daily gamers much confidence in Week 11. If Hoyer is out, you should definitely downgrade DeAndre Hopkins.

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 08:37:14 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer's (concussion) symptoms are improving, but his final status for Week 11 is to be determined. He's viewed as questionable as of Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) isn't a real good play on FantasyScore against the New York Jets if healthy.

Texans | Brian Hoyer day-to-day

Tue, 17 Nov 2015 12:54:28 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is in the NFL's concussion protocol and is considered day-to-day, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. O'Brien is hopeful Hoyer will be able to play this week.

Fantasy Tip: If Hoyer ($6,900, 13.85 of cap) doesn't complete the concussion protocol in time, T.J. Yates ($4,500, 9.0%) should start in his place. It won't be a fun matchup for whoever is under center against the New York Jets. New York has been better than average defensively against quarterbacks this year.

Texans | T.J. Yates leads team to win

Houston Texans QB T.J. Yates completed five of his 11 pass attempts for 69 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the Week 10 win against the Cincinnati Bengals, subbing for the injured QB Brian Hoyer (concussion).

Fantasy Tip: Yates has something against the Cincinnati Bengals, as nearly all of his career highlights have come against the Stripes. It's uncertain if he will be needed in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals in place of Hoyer, but he is not a recommended FantasyScore option if he does get the nod.

Texans | Brian Hoyer in record books

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 13:52:43 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer has thrown at least two touchdowns in five consecutive games -- a franchise record.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer will have a tough time continuing that streak tonight against a Cincinnati Bengals defense that has only given up 10 touchdowns in eight games to quarterbacks. The Texans have been forced to pass a lot this year, and with Arian Foster out, Hoyer should continue to remain a good under-the-radar fantasy quarterback.

Texans | Brian Hoyer benching a mistake

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 13:27:33 -0800

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said his decision to bench QB Brian Hoyer after the Week 1 loss was a mistake. Hoyer became the starter again in Week 6 and QB Ryan Mallett was released after being late for a team flight. Hoyer has since thrown eight touchdowns and one interception and has a 97.3 passer rating.

Fantasy Tip: There is no more quarterback controversy in Houston anymore, and Hoyer will likely finish the year as the starter barring injury. His run of solid play as the starter is in jeopardy Monday night against a strong Cincinnati Bengals defense.
