Neither new GM Ray Farmer or head coach Mike Pettine have told Hoyer their plans for him in 2014, and the team could draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. However, Pettine appears to already be a fan of Hoyer.

Updating a previous item, Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer (knee) was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, and he'll miss the rest of the season. QB Brandon Weeden is expected to become the starting quarterback as a result.
Fantasy Tip: Weeden gets a break and gets another shot to prove to the team brass that he belongs as the starting QB. If they aren't sold yet, do they go after Josh Freeman? We shall see. Josh Gordon remains the Browns' best aerial weapon. Davone Bess probably loses some fantasy luster as a result, though.
Fri, 04 Oct 2013 08:51:38 -0700
Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer (knee) has a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. He'll seek a second opinion before likely facing season-ending surgery.

"I think he improved from the week before," Chudzinski said of Hoyer. "His decisions were very good. Just in talking him this morning, there were a few throws he would like to have made better. But you look at the drives -- we had some long drives we were able to string together because some of the things he did on third down, the decisions he was making and the guys were rallying around him."
Mon, 30 Sep 2013 10:23:33 -0700
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said QB Brandon Weeden (thumb) has been cleared to play, and the team will see how much he can practice this week before declaring him as the backup to QB Brian Hoyer for the Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Oct. 3. Chudzinski said the starting quarterback role will be determined on a week-to-week basis.
Fantasy Tip: Hoyer is 2-0 for the team and will start this Thursday night. We don't see Cleveland going away from Hoyer anytime soon, so leave Weeden to the waiver wire.
Mon, 30 Sep 2013 08:40:42 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer will start in Week 5.
Fantasy Tip: Hoyer looked surprisingly solid again in just his third career start in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He should definitely be in consideration as a bye week filler going up against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5's Thursday night matchup.
Sun, 29 Sep 2013 20:13:45 -0700
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said Sunday, Sept. 29, that he would not commit to QB Brian Hoyer as his starting quarterback for the Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said he will wait on naming a starting QB for the team's Week 4 game. Chudzinski wants to get updates on QB Brandon Weeden's (thumb) health, watch game film, and coach his players before making a decision.
Fantasy Tip: With Brian Hoyer coming off a strong game, it would make sense for the Browns to go back to him in Week 4. Still, both quarterbacks donít have much fantasy value at this point.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 16:07:59 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer made his first start for his new team, and just the second of his career, in the Week 3 win against the Minnesota Vikings. Hoyer completed 30 of his 54 passes for 321 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Hoyer did an admirable job filling in for the injured QB Brandon Weeden (thumb).
Fantasy Tip: Despite the surprising performance, Hoyer should still be considered nothing more than an emergency fill-in for fantasy owners in leagues which require two starting signal callers.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 07:30:44 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer can win the team's starting job with a stellar performance in the team's Week 3 game.
Wed, 18 Sep 2013 06:34:14 -0700
The Cleveland Browns will start QB Brian Hoyer in Week 3. QB Jason Campbell will be the backup.
Fantasy Tip: He has been underwhelming in limited action during his five-year career. He had a down year his senior season at Michigan State as well, with a 51.0 percent completion percentage. He could have value in two-quarterback leagues, but we'd stay away in others.
Tue, 17 Sep 2013 05:17:30 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden (thumb) is likely out for Week 3 with a sprained right thumb.
Fantasy Tip: The team hasn't hinted whether they'll go with Jason Campbell or Brian Hoyer as the starter. Expect to see a lot of Trent Richardson against the Minnesota Vikings. Jordan Cameron's value likely takes a hit, and it's tough to expect much from the returning Josh Gordon.

Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said he'll consider starting QBs Jason Campbell or Brian Hoyer in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings if QB Brandon Weeden (thumb) can't play. Weeden has been sacked 11 times in the first two weeks of the season, and he finished 21-for-33 for 227 yards in their Week 2 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Fantasy Tip: Campbell or Hoyer shouldn't be considered in fantasy circles.
Mon, 16 Sep 2013 11:04:14 -0700

Thu, 06 Jun 2013 11:39:12 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden has received all of the snaps with the first-team offense during organized team activities and minicamp. He believes he had made progress during the workouts but knows he has more things to work on before the season starts. "I'm right where I want to be," Weeden said. "There's some things that I need to work on that I maybe didn't hit when I was out here, but overall, I think my progress was pretty good. We had 16 practices, and I think each practice got better for myself and not only me but for the offense, the flow, how fast we were playing. They bumped the play clock down. We were still operating really, really fast. So, yeah, I'm pleased with it. Am I satisfied? Absolutely not."
Fantasy Tip: Weeden appears to be the clear favorite over Jason Campbell and Brian Hoyer for the starting quarterback job. Even though he has some weapons around him, he should be considered a weak backup fantasy quarterback in leagues this offseason.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 15:45:49 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden has looked exceptional in the last three team practices that were open to the media, according to ESPNCleveland.com writer Tony Grossi. Grossi acknowledges that any passer with a little experience and a strong arm should excel in such drills, but Weeden also demonstrated his growth by making a read and adjustment for a big play in one of the sessions. Grossi believes that Jason Campbell and Brian Hoyer will share time with the second team, because Weeden won't have competition for the starting job.
Fantasy Tip: Weeden may be worth a flier in a standard league, but he'll have to do a lot more than this to prove that he's more than a low-end QB2.
Tue, 28 May 2013 16:52:48 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer has impressed with his quick release, leadership skills and attitude. He does not possess the strong arm the Browns would prefer. However, he is viewed as an upgrade over QB Thaddeus Lewis (Lions) as the team's likely third quarterback.
Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has no fantasy value as a third quarterback and would have marginal worth even if he somehow wound up in the starting role.
Fri, 24 May 2013 14:22:34 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer said he believes he can become a starting quarterback in the NFL. "No doubt I think I have the capability to be a starting quarterback," Hoyer said. "When you get back out on the field and get a taste of playing, you realize for a guy like me who hadn't played as much over three years how much you miss being out on the field." Head coach Rob Chudzinski said Hoyer is currently the No. 3 quarterback in the depth chart.
