Browns | Brian Hoyer's status up in air

Sun, 22 Feb 2015 18:20:02 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer's agent met with the Browns in January, but it is uncertain when negotiations will relaunch.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns are meeting with draft prospects at the quarterback position, and of course they still have Johnny Manziel on the roster. It seems unlikely Hoyer will be brought back at this point, but that door certainly isnít closed. Whomever is the starter in Cleveland is expected to be without Josh Gordon, and it is unclear if Jordan Cameron will be back. That makes the fantasy outlook of any Browns quarterback unappealing.

Browns | Browns, Brian Hoyer reunion not close

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 11:48:19 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer is not close to working out a new deal with the team. Hoyer had hoped to have a sit down meeting with the club and general manager Ray Farmer at this point to gauge the team's interest, but a meeting hasn't taken place. The Browns appear to be looking at other options first while allowing Hoyer to do the same.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns are very unsettled at QB yet again entering the offseason. With Johnny Manziel in rehab treatment, it's anyone's guess as to who their starter will be out of training camp. If Hoyer re-signs, he'll be in a competition for the starting job, like he was last year. Hoyer's has virtually no upside as a fantasy QB, though.

Browns | Brian Hoyer talks text message scandal

Tue, 10 Feb 2015 12:27:17 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer said he's intrigued by the text message investigation, especially since it deals with play-calling and the quarterback situation. It is still unknown whether Hoyer will become a free agent this offseason or if he'll be re-signed by the Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has been relatively successful in Cleveland but his time there could be done. We still don't know where Hoyer will be playing in 2015, however, so it's hard to gauge his fantasy value at this point. No matter where he plays, he still won't be every-week starting fantasy quarterback material.

Browns | Brian Hoyer ready for Round 2?

Sat, 07 Feb 2015 18:10:17 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer said he would be willing to battle QB Johnny Manziel for the starting job a second time if he re-signs with the team. "It's something I've already done once," he said. "I'm not afraid of doing it twice."

Fantasy Tip: Unless the personnel dramatically changes in the offseason, it's unlikely any quarterback in Cleveland will provide much fantasy value in 2015.

Browns | Brian Hoyer up for anything

Sat, 07 Feb 2015 11:32:00 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer said all options are on the table as far as free agency and whether he'll return to Cleveland. Hoyer will become an unrestricted free agent this year, but Hoyer's agent has said that Hoyer could be re-signed and is scheduled to meet with general manager Ray Farmer and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: At this point we don't know if Hoyer will return to the Browns or be on a different roster, so it's difficult to gauge his fantasy value. If he stays with Cleveland, he probably has a better chance of starting as owner Jimmy Haslam has already said he's not sold on Johnny Manziel. Stay tuned to this situation throughout the offseason.

Browns | Browns owner not sold on Johnny Manziel

Fri, 23 Jan 2015 10:09:37 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel had a big proponent last year in owner Jimmy Haslam, but Haslam now thinks the team needs a quarterback in order to get their team turned in the right direction. "We've got to get a quarterback and got to get it fixed," Haslam said. "What I would say to our fans is, we're going to continue to work really hard to find that quarterback who can make us a championship team." Haslam isn't ruling out Manziel being the starting quarterback in 2015, but he's leaving it open for other options, including QBs Brian Hoyer or Connor Shaw.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Manziel didn't have much time to prove himself at the tail end of last season, it apparently was enough to convince the team that they'll have an open competition at the position in training camp this year. Manziel will likely head into fantasy football draft season as a giant risk as a backup QB.

Browns | Brian Hoyer to receive extension?

Thu, 22 Jan 2015 13:46:58 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer could be re-signed this offseason, according to his agent. Hoyer is expected to meet with general manager Ray Farmer and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: It still remains to be seen who will start for the Browns in 2015. Johnny Manziel does have more upside than Hoyer, but neither one is a reliable starting fantasy quarterback at this point.

Browns | Brian Hoyer will make decision on future

Fri, 02 Jan 2015 11:04:38 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer will ultimately make the decision on his future, according to general manager Ray Farmer. "If he wants to be back, that leverage is definitely in his court to make that happen," Farmer said. "Assuming that we could agree to that deal, then that opportunity's available. If we can't come to that agreement, then he obviously would not be back. There's a lot of work to be done in that regard."

Browns | Brian Hoyer open to returning

Mon, 29 Dec 2014 14:22:25 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer said he likes the scenario in Cleveland, but he has to be wanted back. Hoyer said he can still coexist with QB Johnny Manziel, adding that once you've played, you don't want to sit on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has done a good job starting for the Browns, but he's not a viable starting quarterback in fantasy leagues unless he's used to spend bigger at other positions.
