Washington Redskins CB Kevin Barnes said he has been seeing some time at safety during organized team activities this offseason. He has added 10 pounds this offseason to be able to handle the playing at safety for an entire season. The team has also decided they will not be using Barnes as the nickel back anymore because they want to take advantage of his height against outside receivers.

Washington Redskins CB Phillip Buchanon was replaced by CB Kevin Barnes in the starting lineup during the second half of the team's Week 13 loss, reports Barry Svrluga, of The Washington Post. Head coach Mike Shanahan said Buchanon didn't play well enough in the first half, which led to his benching. Barnes saw the most extensive action of his three-year career during the game, and was credited with three tackles and a pass defense.
