Washington Redskins CB Kevin Barnes said Wednesday, Oct. 12, that he expects to keep his role despite the return of CB Phillip Buchanon form a four-game suspension. "I'm still the nickel." Barnes said. "I did what the coaches asked me to do and made a few plays here and there. I think I staked my claim that I should be playing."

Washington Redskins CB Phillip Buchanon was replaced by CB Kevin Barnes in the starting lineup during the second half of the team's Week 13 loss, reports Barry Svrluga, of The Washington Post. Head coach Mike Shanahan said Buchanon didn't play well enough in the first half, which led to his benching. Barnes saw the most extensive action of his three-year career during the game, and was credited with three tackles and a pass defense.
