Thu, 21 Mar 2013 11:16:36 -0700 Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson indicated he does not completely understand the team's signing of RB Shonn Greene but expects to be fine with the situation. "I have never been a big fan of the two-back system, so I don't know how we plan on using him," Johnson. "I'm not afraid of competition, but I was thinking we'd maybe get a draft pick for the other back. And you don't give a guy that kind of money to be just a goal-line guy and in tough-yardage situations. So we'll see what happens." Fantasy Tip: Johnson should still get a majority of the carries next season, but Greene could be used in situations that Johnson handled. Johnson should be considered as a starter every week while Greene should be viewed as a No. 5 running back until his role is more clearly defined.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 19:07:53 -0700 Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said the team will use RB Shonn Greene in different ways next season and not only as a short yardage back. "We're not going to have him as a short-yardage back, a goal-line back and four-minute back and that's all he does. We feel he can play all three downs. He may get a series where he gets going and we're taking over the line of scrimmage and you want that runner in there and we leave him in there," Munchak said. Fantasy Tip: Even though Greene could get more work than expected, Chris Johnson will still see a majority of the carries in 2013. Greene could be used on the goal line at times, which will help his value, but should not been seen as more than a No. 5 running back at this point.
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 05:28:15 -0700 Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said RB Chris Johnson remains the featured back in the offense after the team signed RB Shonn Greene.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 12:52:00 -0700 The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with RB Shonn Greene (Jets) on a three-year, $10 million contract Wednesday, Mar. 13. Fantasy Tip: Greene will be brought in to be a complementary back to Chris Johnson that Mike Munchak has talked about so much this offseason. The idea is that Greene will be a running back that can do different things and fill a different role. It is possible that Greene could be used as a goal line back that will steal some touchdowns away from Johnson. Greene could be used a lot in short-yardage situations as well.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 09:14:19 -0700 The Tennessee Titans want to sign free-agent RB Shonn Greene (Jets) during his visit Wednesday, March 13.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 08:26:43 -0700 Free-agent RB Shonn Greene (Jets) was a league-best 11-for-11 converting third-down runs of less than three yards last season.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 06:06:36 -0700 Free-agent RB Shonn Greene (Jets) will visit the Tennessee Titans Wednesday, March 13.
Sun, 03 Mar 2013 09:32:47 -0800 The New York Jets could lose impending free-agent DE Mike DeVito, TE Dustin Keller, OG Brandon Moore, RB Shonn Greene and FS LaRon Landry in free agency because they only have around $8 million in salary cap available at this point.
Sun, 24 Feb 2013 11:28:00 -0800 The Denver Broncos are expected to show interest in New York Jets impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene this offseason.
Sun, 24 Feb 2013 11:16:55 -0800 The Atlanta Falcons are expected to show interest in New York Jets impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene this offseason.
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 10:09:39 -0800 The New York Jets likely will not be able to re-sign impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene, TE Dustin Keller and FS LaRon Landry this offseason because of their salary cap situation.
Wed, 06 Feb 2013 08:31:38 -0800 New York Jets impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene is unlikely to return in 2013. The team will look for a more versatile running back in offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's scheme.
Thu, 31 Jan 2013 05:12:13 -0800 New York Jets impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene would be a good fit for the San Diego Chargers in the offseason. The team needs a legitimate running back because RB Ryan Mathews is not durable. If healthy, Mathews and Greene could be a good combination.
Thu, 31 Jan 2013 05:07:05 -0800 New York Jets impending free-agent RB Shonn Greene could be a nice fit for the Oakland Raiders in the offseason if he can be signed at a reasonable cap hit. Greene is a bigger back that would form a nice tandem with RB Darren McFadden. Greene also played for new Raiders offensive line coach Tony Sparano last season.
Thu, 24 Jan 2013 10:32:16 -0800 The New York Jets will be hard-pressed to re-sign impending free-agent TE Dustin Keller, RB Shonn Greene and DT Mike DeVito this offseason. However, they'll make a push to re-up DeVito, according to sources.
Fri, 18 Jan 2013 10:17:55 -0800 The Green Bay Packers feel the need to find a lead back heading into the 2013 season, and that man may not be on the current roster. The Packers shuffled through as many as six running backs this season and weren't satisfied with any of their options. Among the unrestricted free agents they could target this offseason include St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson, Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush, Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones and New York Jets RB Shonn Greene. Green Bay would likely be interested in Jackson in the secondary market because he'll be 30 this year. The Packers had some success using RBs DuJuan Harris, Alex Green and James Starks, but only enough to occasionally draw an opponent's safety into the box. "If you're running the ball and they're closing the middle of the field and bringing an extra guy down, it obviously plays to our strengths as a pass group," running backs coach Alex Van Pelt said. "There were times when I thought we forced their hand and they had to stop it, but we'd obviously like to be more consistent and more productive from start to finish." Harris has plenty of potential, but his lack of size led him to wear down at the end. Green Bay is unlikely to take another chance with RB Cedric Benson and the team might not be willing to pay Starks $1.323 million given his injury history.
Sun, 23 Dec 2012 14:28:22 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries against the San Diego Chargers in Week 16.
Tue, 18 Dec 2012 16:17:49 -0800 New York Jets RB Bilal Powell has seen more carries with QB Mark Sanchez struggling. Powell has had 54 carries in the last four games, compared with 35 rushes in the first nine contests. RB Shonn Greene will continue to see the majority of the carries, but Powell will continue to be mixed in. "They're two totally different players, and they complement each other really well," offensive coordinator Tony Sparano said. Powell and Greene have been seeing more running opportunities because head coach Rex Ryan said they have transitioned from a more zone rushing attack to a gap running attack.
Mon, 17 Dec 2012 20:54:06 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene carried 13 times for 68 yards in the Week 15 game against the Tennessee Titans Monday, Dec. 17. Green also had two catches for just one yard.
Sun, 09 Dec 2012 19:43:49 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene finished with 77 yards rushing, and RB Bilal Powell managed 78 yards on the ground, in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both players were able to get into the end zone.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 06:05:14 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene played 37 of 77 offensive snaps in Week 13 (48 percent), while RB Bilal Powell played 33 snaps (43 percent).
Sun, 02 Dec 2012 13:48:40 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene rushed for 104 yards on 24 carries against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13.
Sat, 24 Nov 2012 04:01:46 -0800 New York Jets RB Bilal Powell played in 36 of 70 offensive snaps in Week 12, while RB Shonn Greene played in 31 snaps. Powell's playing time soared because the Jets were in catch-up mode and he plays on passing downs.
Tue, 20 Nov 2012 12:09:36 -0800 The New York Jets were able to incorporate RBs Shonn Greene, Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight into the game against the St. Louis Rams in Week 11. Green had 26 snaps, Powell had 28 and McKnight was in on seven snaps. Greene had 18 carries, Powell had 11 and McKnight had four. Powell also caught two passes and ran for two touchdowns. Head coach Rex Ryan plans to use all three backs more evenly moving forward.
Tue, 20 Nov 2012 07:30:55 -0800 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team plans to use a three-man committee at running back with Shonn Greene, Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight.
Thu, 15 Nov 2012 06:31:30 -0800 Updating a previous item, New York Jets RB Shonn Greene clarified comments he made regarding the team's quarterback situation by saying he never suggested the team should start QB Tim Tebow. "I said, 'We're 3-6 and something has to change.' At no time did I say we have to change quarterbacks or Tebow is terrible or any of that," Greene said.
Wed, 14 Nov 2012 20:59:57 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene said Wednesday, Nov. 14, that he thinks "something's got to change," when asked about the team and its quarterback situation. "You feel bad for (QB Mark Sanchez), but at the same time you want to win games. We're not here to protect people's feelings. If you want to win games, you've got to try something." Greene appears to be part of the faction in favor of giving QB Tim Tebow a shot, but that opinion is obviously not unanimous.
Sun, 11 Nov 2012 20:51:54 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene carried 15 times for 58 yards in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. He also had a reception for five yards.
Sat, 10 Nov 2012 05:19:00 -0800 Since entering the league in 2010, none of San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews' 475 carries have gone for 40 or more yards, his longest being 39. During that span, Cincinnati Bengals RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis and New York Jets RB Shonn Greene are the only other running backs in the league with 300 or more carries without a 40-yard gain.
Mon, 05 Nov 2012 18:07:19 -0800 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene and his team will face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. The Seahawks rush defense has allowed an NFL-high 502 yards over the past three games, and 6.2 yards per carry.
Tue, 30 Oct 2012 19:04:31 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene played 65 of his team's 82 offensive snaps in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins. He was forced to carry a full load after RB Joe McKnight (ankle) aggravated his ankle injury.
Mon, 22 Oct 2012 04:35:29 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene (head) said he was fine after suffering a head injury in the team's Week 7 game. "I'm good," Greene said repeatedly after the game. Head coach Rex Ryan did not provide an update following the game. Greene rushed for 54 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown, and he was used as the team's check-down option throughout the game. He caught six passes for 34 yards on nine targets.
Sun, 21 Oct 2012 19:51:59 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene (head) carried 16 times for 54 yards and a touchdown in the Week 7 game against the New England Patriots. He left the game briefly to have a head injury checked out in the locker room, but he was able to return to the sidelines late in the game.
Sun, 21 Oct 2012 16:34:09 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene (head) was taken to the locker room due to a head injury suffered in Week 7 against the New England Patriots. After passing required tests, he returned to the sideline and immediately donned his helmet.
Wed, 17 Oct 2012 19:51:33 -0700 The next three opponents for the New York Jets rank among the top six in run defense, which puts pressure on the team to duplicate its 252-yard outburst in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts. The New England Patriots, their Week 7 opponent, allows 3.4 yards per carry, while the Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks, the next two opponents, allow 3.3 yards per tote. RB Bilal Powell (shoulder) is unlikely to play in Week 7, and RB Joe McKnight (ankle) is uncertain to play, so the team will rely heavily upon RB Shonn Greene. Fantasy Tip: Greene's trade value is at its pinnacle after a career-high 161 yards and 32 carries last weekend. It might be a good idea to float him in trade offers based on his hot game, as it appears he is in for a long slog over the immediate future. With that, his fantasy value will cool.
Wed, 17 Oct 2012 11:50:41 -0700 New York Jets RB Joe McKnight (ankle) is unlikely to play in Week 7, and with RB Bilal Powell (shoulder) also out, the team's backfield will consist of RBs Shonn Greene, Lex Hilliard and Jonathan Grimes. QB Tim Tebow could also help the ground game out of the Wildcat formation against the New England Patriots.
Mon, 15 Oct 2012 10:04:50 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene collected 103 of his career-high 161 yards rushing between the tackles in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts, including all three of his touchdowns. Greene averaged 2.7 yards before contact on those rushes after averaging 1.5 yards before contact per rush over his first five games.
Sun, 14 Oct 2012 13:41:22 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene rushed for a career-high 161 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6.
Thu, 11 Oct 2012 12:49:12 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he still believes RB Shonn Greene should be the team's No. 1 running back even though he is averaging only 2.9 yards per carry. "Have I lost confidence in Shonn Greene? The answer is no," Ryan said. "I think we keep giving him the ball. He's working extremely hard. I just think it's a matter of time before he really starts popping. We all know once he gets rolling, the whole team is lifted when your big back is running."
Tue, 09 Oct 2012 19:19:51 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene technically remains the starting running back, although he was on the field for one fewer offensive snap than RB Bilal Powell in the team's Week 5 game Monday, Oct. 8, against the Houston Texans.
Mon, 08 Oct 2012 20:54:55 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene carried eight times for just 26 yards in the Week 5 game Monday, Oct. 8, against the Houston Texans, and he added 19 yards on his only catch. RB Bilal Powell posted 18 yards on four carries, and RB Joe McKnight had five yards on four carries.
Mon, 08 Oct 2012 07:02:38 -0700 The New York Jets are averaging only 2.94 yards per rush up the middle this season, good for 29th in the league. Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano has remained loyal to starting RB Shonn Greene; however, it would not be a shock if RB Bilal Powell gets more work on early downs in the team's Week 5 game.
Wed, 03 Oct 2012 10:45:13 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team is not going to change their running back depth chart even though RB Bilal Powell started Week 4 and received more playing time than RB Shonn Greene. Ryan said Powell received more time because of the personnel groups the team was using.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 08:09:20 -0700 New York Jets RB Bilal Powell played in 32 of 53 offensive snaps in Week 4, while RB Shonn Greene played in just 18 snaps. Powell received a lot of extra time because he's the third-down back and the Jets were trailing in the game; however, Greene wasn't happy after the game, brushing off the media.
Wed, 26 Sep 2012 07:56:10 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team is open to trying anything to bolster their rushing attack, including the possibility of more early carries for RBs Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight. Powell nearly split the workload with starting RB Shonn Greene in the second half of the team's Week 3 game. So far this season, Greene is averaging 2.8 yards per carry with a long of 14 yards.
Tue, 25 Sep 2012 20:17:03 -0700 The New York Jets plan to be patient and stick with RB Shonn Greene for now, despite the fact he was held under three yards per carry for the second consecutive game in Week 3. He is expected to see a bulk of the carries in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Mon, 24 Sep 2012 10:27:15 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team would like to get RB Shonn Greene playing better than he has in the first three games. Greene has averaged 2.8 yards per carry so far, and Ryan would like him to be averaging around four yards per carry.
Sun, 23 Sep 2012 19:00:45 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene carried 19 times for 40 yards in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins. He also added two receptions for nine yards. Backup RB Bilal Powell saw 10 carries for a team-high 45 yards, and he added two receptions for 24 yards. Fantasy Tip: It's too early to pull the plug on Greene if you own him in fantasy, but at this point he is nothing more than a low-end RB2 or 'flex' fantasy option. He faces a terrible matchup in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers, and a defense which should be awfully angry after their first setback Sunday.
Sat, 22 Sep 2012 17:56:37 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene is healthy and will start in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins. However, he'll be without FB John Conner (knee), TE Dustin Keller (hamstring) and OL Dennis Landolt (knee). Greene will likely be running behind TE Konrad Reuland, who is expected to fill in at fullback. Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins rank fourth in the NFL against the run, allowing just 53.0 rush yards per game. The Dolphins shut down Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden last week, and haven't allowed a run longer than 14 yards through their first two games. Greene is only worth a look as a low-end RB2 or 'flex' player.
Mon, 17 Sep 2012 11:25:20 -0700 New York Jets RB Shonn Greene (head) left the game in the second quarter with a head injury in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he returned to the game in the second half. Greene had 11 carries for 23 yards in the game.
