Broncos | James Casey expected to be busy |
Tue, 07 Jul 2015 19:53:21 -0700
Denver Broncos FB James Casey feels more comfortable in the fullback role, and the team like his pass-catching ability as either a fullback or tight end. He is likely to be one of the busiest and most versatile players in the offense.
Fantasy Tip: With Owen Daniels and Virgil Green in the mix at tight end, Casey's primary role is expected to be at fullback. But he can play a couple of positions, and all indications are he will see plenty of snaps. However, it might not necessarily translate to big-time fantasy production. He'll be a player to monitor early in the regular season and snag off the waiver wire if his role is more.

Eagles | James Casey's role uncertain |
Mon, 09 Sep 2013 12:41:06 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is not saying how TE James Casey will be used Week 1 but did say he likely will be active for the game. "He's doing a good job. Most likely he's going to be active and we'll use him. The one thing about our roster, I think on offense, anybody that's active is preparing to play the whole game, so we'll just have to see how many of the position or personnel groups that we use involve him … He's very multiple. He can play our wide spot. He can play our 'A' spot," Shurmur said.

Eagles | Tight ends being used in various formations |
Wed, 14 Aug 2013 14:05:59 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek played in all 21 snaps with the first-team offense in the team's first preseason game, and he was used everywhere on the field and either blocked or ran passing routes. Celek started eight plays lined up as a halfback and four times lined up as a traditional tight end. He also was lined up four times in the slot, three times split out wide and twice in the backfield to the left of the quarterback in shotgun. "In this offense, you've got to know every position, and they can just interchange you anywhere," Celek said. "And it's fun. It's a new experience. You get to do different things. Guys like it." He stayed in to block on 11 plays. TE James Casey didn't see a single snap with the first-team offense. TE Zach Ertz should see plenty of time, too, but his development as a blocker should keep Celek as the No. 1 tight end on the team. Ertz, who didn't run block much in college, will be asked to do plenty of that in the pros. Ertz blocked out of his formations and struggled in the preseason game. The three times there was a two-tight end set, Ertz was lined up in the slot with Celek either in-line or in the backfield. Celek, Ertz and Casey have lined up in three-tight end formations at times in practice, but it's unlikely the team will use many of those formations during the season.
Fantasy Tip: Celek and Ertz are really the only two tight ends that should be considered in fantasy circles. How Kelly uses them both will likely vary, and Ertz's struggles as a blocker might help him as a receiver if Chip Kelly decides to use Celek for blocking more. Regardless, they could be interchangeable and figure to give fantasy owners relying on them headaches on a weekly basis.

Eagles | James Casey works underneath |
Wed, 07 Aug 2013 18:07:01 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE James Casey saw plenty of work underneath on quick out patterns during joint practice with the New England Patriots Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Casey is battling Brent Celek for the top spot on the depth chart, and rookie Zach Ertz is also in the mix as well. It sounds as if Casey is the top receiving option at the position, while Celek will be used more for blocking purposes, especially in two-TE sets.

Eagles | Two sharing top TE spot |
Tue, 06 Aug 2013 09:18:52 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TEs James Casey and Brent Celek are each listed as starting tight ends on the team's initial preseason depth chart released Monday, Aug. 5.
Fantasy Tip: For fantasy purposes, Casey is viewed as the bigger receiving threat, while Celek is expected to take on more of a blocking role.

Eagles | Brent Celek considered blocking TE |
Tue, 23 Jul 2013 09:29:33 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek is considered a blocking tight end in the new offensive system installed by head coach Chip Kelly, while FB/TE James Casey and TE Zach Ertz are considered primarily receivers.
Fantasy Tip: The team has plenty of depth at the position, and might use three-TE alignments at some points. For fantasy purposes, Celek will no longer be that dependable guy you go to off the waiver wire. It appears his production will be down. Casey might be the best bet, with Ertz the second option. Clay Harbor is also in the mix for a role.

Eagles | James Casey to be used in multiple spots |
Thu, 23 May 2013 10:07:21 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles FB James Casey, who was used primarily as a fullback for the Houston Texans, is expected to be used all over the place in head coach Chip Kelly's "Joker" offense. Casey had 34 catches last year, but he caught 111 passes in his final season at Rice.
Fantasy Tip: With Brent Celek, Zach Ertz and Clay Harbor also in the picture, don't expect Casey to be used much as a tight end, let alone catch many passes. He won't be useful in fantasy leagues, unless some injuries clear the way.

Eagles | Three TEs expected to receive playing time |
Fri, 17 May 2013 13:24:03 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly indicated TEs Brent Celek, Zach Ertz and James Casey are expected to receive playing time during games this season.
Fantasy Tip: Even though they are all expected to see playing time, none are considered No. 1 fantasy tight ends. Celek could be worth a late-round flier that can be a No. 2 tight end because of his chemistry with QB Michael Vick. Casey should get a decent amount of receptions this season but should be taken in only very deep leagues. Casey could be a waiver wire option early in the season. Ertz is not expected to have a lot of fantasy value this season.
