Bengals | Might not bring Brandon Tate back

Wed, 27 Feb 2013 20:11:09 -0800

Impending free-agent WR Brandon Tate (Bengals) might not be re-signed, as he was too inconsistent as a return man and he struggled as a receiver in 2012. If the team re-signs impending free-agent CB Adam Jones, he'll likely be used as the return man, making Tate's re-signing even less likely.

Bengals | Mohamed Sanu a nice red zone target

Wed, 28 Nov 2012 17:20:19 -0800

Cincinnati Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu has emerged as a great red zone target for QB Andy Dalton to take attention away from WR A.J. Green. Three of Sanu's four touchdowns have come with WR Andrew Hawkins (knee) out, and three of Sanu's TDs have come on third downs. Sanu has eight third down catches in his four starts. He has gone ahead of WRs Brandon Tate and Armon Binns on the depth chart. "He's awesome in the red zone," offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said. "In zones he has a great feel for finding the holes and man-to-man he's got a big body (6-2, 210) where he can create separation for himself. He's everything we hoped he would be. It just took us too long a time to figure it out I guess."

Bengals | Armon Binns is best of rest

Mon, 10 Sep 2012 20:00:46 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals WR Armon Binns recorded his first career NFL reception in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. He finished with four catches for 28 yards. WR Brandon Tate had one grab for three yards.

Fantasy Tip: Both players are worth monitoring for fantasy purposes, but they are not worth adding to a roster just yet. The Bengals are looking for a player to step up as a tertiary receiving option to WR A.J. Green and TE Jermaine Gresham, and in Monday's game, that looked to be WR Andrew Hawkins, not Binns or Tate.

Bengals | OC impressed with Brandon Tate

Fri, 22 Jun 2012 10:46:41 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said WR Brandon Tate was one of the standout players during workouts this offseason. "He's been one of the best surprises of camp for me," said Gruden. "Last year he came in late (after being acquired on waivers from New England) and was mainly a return guy and our fifth receiver and never really got in the flow with the group at wide receiver. Now I think he's more confident, he sees that he belongs as an NFL wide receiver, and I think the confidence level that he has is showing. He's got all the ability. He runs all of the routes great, he's got great feel, and he's done an outstanding job."

Mon, 29 Aug 2011 00:13:54 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon Tate (hamstring) returned to action, playing in the team's third preseason game. He had three catches for 41 yards. Tate could, however, be on the bubble to make the team. The Patriots are deep at receiver and he averaged just 13.5 yards per kickoff return against the Detroit Lions. He downplayed the kickoff rule change saying it isn't a big factor. Tate also noted he is focused on improving and trying to make the team.

New England Patriots WR Wes Welker said he believes that WRs Brandon Tate and Taylor Price have done a good job learning the offense and could be threats next season. "It takes time for a receiver, especially in this offense. I think it's always hard, especially in our system, for young drafted receivers to come in and really do something. They really have to do their homework and it's hard for young guys to understand that. They've been great and hopefully we just keep working these guys along and bring them along, and hopefully be a threat for us next year," Welker said.

Patriots | Deion Branch should immediately contribute

Mon, 11 Oct 2010 23:35:35 -0700

New England Patriots WR Deion Branch should be able to step in and contribute immediately to the Patriots' offense because of his pre-existing knowledge of the team's passing game, reports Christopher Price, of WEEI.com. His return will cut into the playing time of WRs Brandon Tate and Taylor Price, and it allows some of the team's younger receivers more time to develop in the system. The Patriots will be moving forward without a true No. 1 receiver.
