Raiders | Derek Carr trusts Jared Cook

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 20:58:14 -0800

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook's ability to stretch defenses down the field is a luxury from the position, according to QB Derek Carr, and Carr said he is comfortable throwing to Cook no matter who is covering him.

Fantasy Tip: Cook has two 100-yard performances in his last three games, and he has topped 50 yards in three straight. Another week of TE1 production should be on tap against the New England Patriots in Week 11.

Mon, 06 Nov 2017 05:36:48 -0800

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook had season bests with eight catches for 126 yards Sunday, Nov. 5, against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: He has had three pretty good games in a row, and he's in the low-end TE1 mix moving up.

Raiders | Four receptions for Jared Cook

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 14:50:43 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook totaled four receptions for 57 yards on five targets in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Cook took a bit of a step back after his big performance last Thursday against Kansas City, but he did manage to rack up two or more receptions for his eighth game in eight tries. He has re-emerged as a dependable low-end TE1 in all fantasy formats heading into Week 9 against the Dolphins on Sunday night.

Raiders | Jared Cook has big night

Thu, 19 Oct 2017 21:27:23 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook logged six receptions (on seven targets) for 107 yards Thursday, Oct. 19, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: As with teammates David Carr and Amari Cooper, Cook enjoyed his best game of the year Thursday night, nearly doubling his previous high for yardage. We saw big games from Cook in Green Bay last year, but never with any consistency. So while Cook can be used in advantageous matchups he's by no means a weekly option at this time.

Raiders | Jared Cook scores first Oakland TD

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 20:42:18 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook racked up four receptions for a team-high 43 yards and his first touchdown of the season in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Cook was the only fantasy bright spot in an otherwise dismal night for the Oakland offense. They face another tough matchup in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos. He remains more of a TE2 despite the score.

Raiders | Oakland injury report for Week 3

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 13:51:17 -0700

Oakland Raiders CB Sean Smith (neck, shoulder) practiced on a full basis on Friday, Sept. 22, but he is still listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Washington Redskins. CB Gareon Conley (shin), TE Jared Cook (shoulder), WR Amari Cooper (knee), RB DeAndre Washington (hamstring), DB Keith McGill (foot) and FB Jamize Olawale (quadriceps) each practiced in full and were removed from the injury report.

Raiders | Another limited practice for Jared Cook

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 17:09:15 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook (shoulder) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: The nine-year veteran should be good to go for Sunday, as this seems like it'll be typical concerning his practice habits for the duration of the campaign. He's on pace for a career high in receptions in the early going, and with a nice matchup on tap versus the Redskins, he could end up being a very useful TE1 this weekend.

Raiders | Limited practice for Jared Cook

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 16:48:07 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Cook has been a solid part of the passing game and has recorded nine catches and 81 yards in the first two weeks of the season. Cook should be on fantasy rosters but probably can stay on the bench this week.

Raiders | Jared Cook frequently targeted

Thu, 10 Aug 2017 10:14:49 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook has been thrown to often by QB Derek Carr this offseason, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur. Carr is excited about what Cook brings to the table. "When you add a guy like Jared Cook that runs a 4.3 [40-yard dash] or a 4.4 and he can outrun [defensive backs], [you] can throw him out wide and run different kinds of routes with him," Carr said. "We can do that kind of stuff because he is that talented."

Fantasy Tip: Cook actually ran a 4.49 40-yard dash, but Carr's point is taken. Cook does give the Raiders another downfield weapon. The problem is Cook isn't even technically starting, at least not yet. Lee Smith was listed as the starting tight end on Oakland's initial depth chart. Cook does possess the most fantasy value among Raiders tight ends, though.

Raiders | Lee Smith listed as starter

Mon, 07 Aug 2017 11:16:37 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Lee Smith is listed as the starting tight end ahead of TE Jared Cook on the Raiders' initial depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: This is somewhat of a surprise. Cook is in his first offseason with the Raiders, though, so he may still be acclimating to a new offense, personnel, etc. Cook has more fantasy upside, but Smith is a deep sleeper now given his No. status in a high-scoring offense.

Raiders | Jared Cook a matchup problem

Fri, 02 Jun 2017 19:44:54 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook will be a matchup problem over the middle and help create space for the rest of the offensive playmakers, according to quarterbacks coach Todd Downing. "He's a matchup nightmare for linebackers and most safeties," Downing said. "He really brings a sense in the passing game of a mismatch that we can count on week in and week out."

Fantasy Tip: There is no denying that Cook has the physical tools to be a weapon in the passing game, but consistent production has eluded him throughout his career. Consider him a high-upside TE2.

Raiders | Jared Cook ready to contribute

Thu, 16 Mar 2017 19:52:03 -0700

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook said his plan is to "make plays and catch touchdowns" for his new team.

Fantasy Tip: Cook has the most upside among Oakland's tight ends, but consistent production has always been an issue. Even if he starts, he should be drafted as a TE2.

Raiders | Jared Cook contract details

Thu, 16 Mar 2017 14:57:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook's contract is two years in length and worth $12.2 million, according to a source. The first year of the deal is fully guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: As stated earlier, Cook remains a TE2 despite potentially being the Raiders' starting tight end.

Raiders | Jared Cook to sign with Oakland

Thu, 16 Mar 2017 14:31:35 -0700

Free-agent TE Jared Cook (Packers) will sign an undisclosed deal with the Oakland Raiders, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Cook will be an underrated weapon in Oakland's offense, assuming he starts ahead of Clive Walford and Mychal Rivera. He has the potential to turn into Derek Carr's safety blanket and go-to red-zone target, but don't assume that will happen. Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree will continue to see most of Carr's throws. Cook remains in backup fantasy tight end territory for now.

Raiders | Jared Cook will visit Oakland

Tue, 14 Mar 2017 15:58:03 -0700

Free-agent TE Jared Cook (Packers) is expected to meet with the Oakland Raiders if he does not sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: This landing spot would make more sense for Cook. He would be competing for the starting job with Clive Walford and Mychal Rivera. Even if that job is won, however, he would likely still be sharing the field with Walford and Rivera. The most likely case is that Cook will be a backup fantasy tight end wherever he lands.

Vikings | Jared Cook to visit Vikings

Tue, 14 Mar 2017 13:22:10 -0700

Free-agent TE Jared Cook (Packers) will meet with the Minnesota Vikings following his visit with the Seattle Seahawks, according to a source. That is unless Cook signs a deal in Seattle.

Fantasy Tip: Cook would play second fiddle to Kyle Rudolph if he were to sign with the Vikings. Backing up Rudolph would obviously limit Cooks' fantasy value and easily keep him out of TE1 territory.

Seahawks | Seattle to meet with Jared Cook

Mon, 13 Mar 2017 17:13:10 -0700

Free-agent TE Jared Cook (Packers) is scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Cook will have a new team this offseason and the Seahawks are his first visit. The Seahawks have Jimmy Graham on the roster but may want to use two tight ends in their passing game. Cook's value probably would drop a bit if he signs with Seattle but probably should be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end if he starts for a team.

Packers | Jared Cook not expected to re-sign

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 15:07:56 -0800

Free-agent TE Jared Cook (Packers) does not plan to re-sign with the Green Bay Packers, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Cook should be able to find a starting job with a team this offseason and can be a low-end No. 1 tight end depending on his team. Richard Rodgers appears to be the leading candidate to start for the Packers but is only a No. 2 fantasy tight end.

Packers | Jared Cook talks break off

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 06:24:45 -0800

Free-agent TE Jared Cook (Packers) has had contract talks with the Green Bay Packers broken off Friday, March 10, according to a source. He'll visit other teams.

Fantasy Tip: Cook is probably as physically talented as almost any tight end, but it just hasn't come together. He's a TE2 option wherever he lands.

Packers | GB 'being frugal' in talks with Jared Cook

Sun, 05 Mar 2017 09:09:04 -0800

Impending free-agent TE Jared Cook (Packers) is still in talks with the Green Bay Packers about returning, but there hasn't been much progress because the franchise are "being frugal", according to Bleacher Report's Jason Cole.

Fantasy Tip: It isn't overly surprising general manager Ted Thompson is taking this approach, as Cook is 30 years old with a long injury history and should be willing to accept a team-friendly contract in order to keep their Rodgers as his quarterback. Assuming Cook accepts a short-term deal with the Packers in the coming days, he could flirt with low-end TE1 status when healthy.

Jaguars | Jacksonville may look at several TEs

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 15:02:07 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent TE Jared Cook, Arizona Cardinals impending free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham and Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent TE Jack Doyle could receive interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars during free agency.

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars have agreed to trade Julius Thomas to the Miami Dolphins and do not have a replacement on their roster, so they will be looking to add another tight end this offseason. The Jaguars likely will use their tight end in the passing game but that player should only be considered a No. 2 tight end in most leagues.

Packers | Jared Cook played well late in season

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 15:22:21 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent TE Jared Cook averaged 13.5 yards per catch over the final seven games of the regular season, which ranked third among tight ends in the NFL in the category.

Fantasy Tip: Cook could re-sign with the Packers this offseason but probably would receive interest from multiple teams if he hits the free-agent market. He was limited to 10 games in 2016 because of an injury but still finished the season with 377 yards and one touchdown. He could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy tight end if he re-signs with the Packers but may be a better No. 2 tight end in leagues.

Packers | Green Bay hoping to re-sign Jared Cook

Fri, 27 Jan 2017 19:41:10 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent TE Jared Cook is one of the players who will be a priority during free agency, and the front office is expected to be more aggressive pursuing free agents this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Cook hit his stride down the stretch, seeing at least eight targets in five of the final six games. If he re-signs with the Packers, he will have a chance to sneak into TE1 territory in 2017.

Packers | Jared Cook big in playoffs

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 12:47:11 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent TE Jared Cook totaled 18 catches for 229 yards and two touchdowns in Green Bay's three playoff games this season. Cook had not made it to the postseason in his seven-year career and was content with his first season as a Packer. "I'm just happy to be where I am," Cook said. "I'm happy to finally be able to get somewhere I've been searching on a journey. Not the ultimate goal, but you take the good with the bad."

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear so soon whether or not Cook will be a part of the Packers' future, but he certainly made a case for Green Bay to re-sign him. He struggled with his health at the beginning of the season but was really relied on by Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs. If he is re-signed then he figures to be the favorite to start at tight end next season.

Packers | Jared Cook effective in loss

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 15:39:28 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook caught seven passes for 78 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 22, against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: Atlanta had been weak against the position all year, but Cook's involvement has been steady in recent weeks. The Packers will have a decision to make as to re-signing the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent.

Packers | Jared Cook goes off against Dallas

Sun, 15 Jan 2017 17:10:12 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook finished with six catches on a team-high 11 targets for 106 yards and a touchdown in a 34-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Cook has become a featured part of Green Bay's passing attack in recent weeks, and he looks like a strong DFS play heading into the conference title game, especially if Jordy Nelson is still sidelined.

Packers | Five grabs for Jared Cook

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 17:18:39 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook finished with five catches for 48 yards in a 38-13 win over the New York Giants Sunday, Jan. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Cook has carved out a steady role of late, and he now has 18 grabs over his last four games dating back to the end of the regular season. With limited options available at this stage of the playoffs, Cook should be a great DFS value play at tight end in the divisional round.

Packers | Jared Cook finishes with six grabs

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 17:28:50 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook managed six receptions for 85 yards on eight targets in the Week 15 game against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Cook entered the game with five grabs for 41 yards on eight targets over the past three games, so it has been difficult to suggest him in fantasy leagues. He'll have a big game, and then follow it up with a stinker or two. Start him at your own risk in Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings. He had four catches for 31 yards on six targets in the first meeting with Minnesota Sept. 18.

Packers | Full practice for Jared Cook

Thu, 15 Dec 2016 17:19:46 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (chest) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Cook hasn't developed into a reliable offensive weapon for the Packers this season, and he can't be counted on in Week 15 with the fantasy playoffs in full swing.

Packers | Jared Cook takes part in practice

Wed, 14 Dec 2016 16:10:12 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (chest) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Cook appears to be on track to play against the Chicago Bears this week. He has been limited to 41 yards in the last three games and probably should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Packers | Jared Cook should be fine

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (lung) is expected to be fine for Week 15 after he sustained a lung contusion Sunday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Cook has been useless in fantasy with a 17-199-1 line on the season.

Packers | Jared Cook leaves with chest injury

Sun, 11 Dec 2016 15:31:03 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (chest) exited the Week 14 game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a chest injury and he will not return.

Fantasy Tip: Cook managed just one grab for 15 yards on two targets, so not a good fantasy output. Avoid using him again until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Packers | Three catches for Jared Cook

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 18:05:00 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook posted three receptions for 19 yards on four targets in the Week 13 game against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: After hitting triple digits in receiving yardage with a score in Week 11 in Washington, Cook has just four grabs for 26 yards on six targets over the past two outings. He still cannot be trusted on a regular basis in most fantasy leagues.

Packers | Jared Cook held down on MNF

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 21:25:00 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook posted just one catch for seven yards in the Week 12 game against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Nov. 28. He was targeted twice.

Fantasy Tip: Cook went over 100 yards last week in Washington, but he was obviously held in check in this one. Inconsistency has been a huge problem over his career. He remains more of a TE2 in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 13 against the Houston Texans.

Packers | Jared Cook returns in style

Mon, 21 Nov 2016 09:42:20 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook returned from a seven-week absence due to a high-ankle sprain and playing 43-of-71 snaps in a Week 11 loss to the Washington Redskins. He finished with six catches on 11 targets for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Remember when folks were pegging Cook as a late-round value pick this summer? He has always been capable of being one of the best fantasy tight ends in the league, but the quality of his quarterback play, lack of durability and his own inconsistency has almost always gotten in the way. Expect Cook to be a hot waiver-wire pickup this week, although he is a poor bet to produce in Week 12 against the Philadelphia Eagles' stingy tight end defense.

Packers | Jared Cook expected to play

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 08:06:30 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (ankle) is expected to be active for the team's Week 11 game. Cook has not played since Week 3 because of the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Cook may be eased back into the lineup since he has missed around two months because of the injury. Owners in all leagues probably should look for other options to use and can avoid Cook.

Packers | Jared Cook set to return Week 11

Fri, 18 Nov 2016 10:56:52 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (ankle) "looks likely to play" in Week 11 against the Washington Redskins, ending a seven-week absence due to a high-ankle sprain.

Fantasy Tip: Cook was a bit of a preseason darling, presumably to serve as the same kind of threat in between the hashes that Jermichael Finley used to, but the timing of this injury pretty much nixed that. With Davante Adams emerging alongside Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, Cook is unlikely to be much of a factor in fantasy down the stretch.
