Eagles | Chip Kelly favors one-cut runners

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 06:58:57 -0700

The Philadelphia Eagles traded RB LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills because head coach Chip Kelly desires a one-cut running back, according to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. Lurie praised McCoy as a player, but the move was not financially driven. Kelly felt he could garner more production from a different running back or two. Lurie used the term "power spread" on multiple occasions to describe Kelly's offense. RBs DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews figure to share the work.

Fantasy Tip: Murray was one of the best players in fantasy last season, but there's almost no way he can repeat that kind of performance with two other legit backs wanting the ball. With Sproles an elite receiver from the RB position, Murray may find it difficult to repeat his 57 receptions from a year ago. Murray still rates as a mid-to-low RB1. Sproles is a capable RB3 in PPR leagues. Mathews' role is a little cloudy, but he is likely a low-end RB3 for now.

Bills | LeSean McCoy trade was quick

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 10:31:26 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles March 4, and Bills head coach Rex Ryan said the trade took 30 minutes to wrap up. "The trade for LeSean happened really quick," Ryan said at the NFL owners meetings. "We were all sitting there. We were having organizational meetings. ... And all of the sudden we get this call from Philadelphia and I think that was when the trade started. Probably 30 minutes later, the trade was done."

Fantasy Tip: Shady moves to a ground-and-pound approach in Buffalo under Ryan, but the move is likely a mixed bag for his 2015 fantasy value. To be safe, he's better viewed as a high-end RB2 with potential for more depending on how Buffalo uses McCoy and Fred Jackson together.

Bills | LeSean McCoy Buffalo's bellcow

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 07:31:51 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was referred to as the team's "bellcow" by head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said that McCoy and RB Fred Jackson could see time on third downs.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like the team will feature McCoy heavily, which helps shed doubt on Jackson's involvement. Jackson's value falls to the high-end RB4 territory, while Shady is best served as a midrange RB1.

Bills | Rex Ryan committed to the run

Sat, 21 Mar 2015 15:57:52 -0700

Buffalo Bills RBs LeSean McCoy and Fred Jackson are expected to receive a lot of carries in head coach Rex Ryan's offense. Ryan went as far as to say: "we're going to run it 50 times if we can on you."

Fantasy Tip: This really doesn't change much because it's not often that you can run the ball effectively 50 times against another NFL team. Shady McCoy is a mid-to-low RB1 right now, while Jackson's fantasy appeal is a little clouded. He could be a low-end RB2 or a high-end RB3.

Bills | Buffalo officially adds LeSean McCoy

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 14:12:55 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy has officially been traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for LB Kiko Alonso.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy should see a lot of work in the offense after the team gave him a new contract. He should be involved in the running and passing game next season. He likely will be an option in the first round of drafts and should be a weekly start.

Bills | LeSean McCoy contract update

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 10:02:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has agreed to a new five-year deal worth $40 million. McCoy will make $16 million in the first year of the contract and will receive $26.5 million in guaranteed money as part of the contract.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy should see a lot of playing time after receiving a big contract from the Bills. He probably will be selected in the first round of fantasy drafts next season and should be a weekly starting option.

Bills | LeSean McCoy to receive new deal

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 09:24:08 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has agreed to a new five-year deal with the Bills, according to a source. McCoy will receive more guaranteed money up front as part of the new deal.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy could receive a majority of the carries with the Bills this season, but he probably will have to share some carries with other running backs on the roster. McCoy likely will be a candidate to be selected in the first round of drafts next season.

Bills | LeSean McCoy nearing new deal

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 13:28:05 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is likely to have a new contract when the 2015 league year begins Tuesday, March 10.

Fantasy Tip: Shady's down year and his questionable new offense likely puts him into the mid-to-late portions of the first round in traditional drafts. Rex Ryan loves to run the ball, but McCoy will likely share the load with Fred Jackson.

Bills | LeSean McCoy ready to move on

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 20:08:32 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is "ready to move on" a day after he was informed the Philadelphia Eagles planned to trade him to the Bills, a source close to the running back said Wednesday, March 4.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy remains an RB1 for fantasy owners heading into 2015, but he is no longer in the conversation for top pick on draft day, especially as long as Fred Jackson remains healthy. The good news for Bills fans is that McCoy has come to grips with the deal and now sounds positive about his new team. He might come to enjoy the offense of Rex Ryan quite a bit more than that of Chip Kelly's, as Rex loves the ground and pound style.

Bills | Buffalo to restructure LeSean McCoy

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 17:02:08 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy will reportedly be given a revised contract with his new team. McCoy is currently without any guaranteed money in 2016, which would change. The Bills plan to "take very good care of him," according to a source familiar with the team's thinking.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how McCoy's unhappiness with his trade to Buffalo might affect things, but a restructuring of his contract is a good place to start for the Bills to appease him. His move to Buffalo is a mixed bag for his fantasy value, since Fred Jackson and Bryce Brown are also in the picture. Consider him a high-end RB that could come at a reasonable discount.
