Tue, 22 Nov 2016 16:52:57 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward-Bey has missed the last two contests, and it appears his absence will extend another week, with Pittsburgh set to play on Thanksgiving night. Eli Rogers has been the biggest beneficiary with Heyward-Bey sidelined, but he's more of a weapon for PPR leagues than standard ones.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey misses practice

Mon, 21 Nov 2016 15:08:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) did not participate in practice Monday, Nov. 21. The Steelers did not practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward-Bey likely will not play in Week 12 since this is a short week, so owners in all leagues should avoid him. Eli Rogers has received a bigger role in the passing game over the last few weeks but should only be a desperation flex option in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Trio of Steelers out in Week 10

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 12:25:24 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Markus Wheaton (shoulder), Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) and RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) have been ruled out for the team's Week 10 game Sunday, Nov. 13, against the Dallas Cowboys. All three sat out practice Friday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The absence of Wheaton and Bey allows the likes of Sammie Coates, Eli Rogers and Jesse James to remain relevant in deeper fantasy leagues. Ladarius Green could also benefit if he makes his return this weekend. Meanwhile, with Williams out, Fitzgerald Toussaint will fill in as the backup, but is a longshot to produce anything of note behind Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | No timetable for Darrius Heyward-Bey

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 21:29:19 -0800

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) is dealing with a mid-foot sprain, and the team is waiting for swelling to subside before a timetable is determined for his return. He is likely to sit out in Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: If DHB is sidelined in Week 10, Sammie Coates and Eli Rogers are likely to pick up a few more targets. Coates is especially attractive as a flex fantasy option in leagues of 12 or more teams.

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 14:13:28 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable for Heyward-Bey's return, so there is a good chance that he will miss this week's game. Sammie Coates and Eli Rogers could receive more targets and could be flex options in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey has sprained foot

Tue, 08 Nov 2016 10:04:01 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) is dealing with a sprained foot, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: When his hands haven't failed him in years past, his health typically has. DHB recently passed Markus Wheaton on the depth chart, but it is a fair bet Heyward-Bey will miss at least a week or two with this injury. Sammie Coates, Wheaton and Eli Rogers will all continue to fight for targets opposite Antonio Brown and will be difficult to trust in fantasy for the foreseeable future.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey earns promotion

Tue, 01 Nov 2016 09:02:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey is listed as a starter on the team's latest depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: He moves ahead of Markus Wheaton, who has missed the last two games - and four of seven in total this season - due to injury but is expected to return this week. DHB has always possessed big-play potential, but his hands have typically let him down. Heyward-Bey is worth an add in deeper leagues this week based solely on the explosiveness of the offense he plays in, but his inconsistency makes him a very risky start.

Steelers | One touch, one score for DHB

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 20:18:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey was targeted twice in the Week 6 game against the Miami Dolphins, but he had no receptions. He made up for it with his feet, running 60 yards for a touchdown on his only carry of the game.

Fantasy Tip: The big scoring play was nice, but he does not touch the ball enough to warrant fantasy usage in most formats.

Steelers | Markus Wheaton will share snaps

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 09:16:26 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) is set to return from a sprained right shoulder in Week 3 versus the Philadelphia Eagles, but he will do so in a timeshare with Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Fantasy Tip: It's impossible to know at this point whether the Steelers plan on making this a permanent arrangement or are only trying to bring him back slowly, but what is clear is that Wheaton is no more than a low-end flex for the time being. He is certainly still worth a bench spot and could move into the WR3 discussion as the year progresses.

Steelers | Two Steelers WRs expected to share time

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 12:30:08 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey likely will share playing time at outside receiver in Week 1 since WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) has been ruled out. WR Eli Rogers will be the slot receiver.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known how Coates and Heyward-Bey will be used, but they probably will not receive a lot of targets during the game and can be avoided in most leagues. Rogers should be more involved in the passing game and could be a decent option in daily fantasy leagues.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey to be involved?

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 14:43:26 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey could remain high on the Steelers' depth chart this season, mainly due to his speed. Heyward-Bey has reached up to 25 miles per hour while running this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward-Bey is pretty fast and all, but his fantasy value remains minimal, although Martavis Bryant's suspension does increase it somewhat. He should only be drafted as a deep flier in 2016.

Steelers | Antonio Brown torches rookie

Thu, 26 May 2016 18:42:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown beat CB Artie Burns for a pair of touchdowns in the first day of OTAs Thursday, May 26, and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey said he believes a 2,000-yard season is possible for Brown.

Fantasy Tip: Brown is a first-round option in any format, and he should be in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick in PPR leagues.

Steelers | Pitt's No. 2 WR job up for grabs

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 11:45:06 -0700

The Pittsburgh Steelers' No. 2 wide receiver job is up for grabs between WRs Markus Wheaton, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Sammie Coates this year, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Wheaton seems like the favorite for the spot, but Tomlin also sees Coates as a potential breakout candidate in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: With Martavis Bryant suspended for the year, Wheaton's value surely rises in fantasy circles, and he could be a low-end WR2 commodity if he wins the job behind Antonio Brown. Coates is a deep threat who will have more value in standard-scoring formats. Draft him as a WR5 with upside for more.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey back with Steelers

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 10:47:14 -0800

Free-agent WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (Steelers) agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, March 7, on a three-year deal worth $3.8 million, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward-Bey had a smaller role in the offense this season and finished the season with 314 yards and two touchdowns. Heyward-Bey likely will be used more on special teams next season and should not be an option in most fantasy leagues.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey injures knee

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 12:23:20 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (knee) is questionable to return to Week 9's game against the Oakland Raiders after suffering a knee injury.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward-Bey ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was targeted twice but had zero catches against his former team and wasn't a great FantasyScore option to begin with this afternoon.

Steelers | DHB, Markus Wheaton do very little

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 16:42:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Darrius Heyward-Bey and Markus Wheaton had little production in Week 3 against the St. Louis Rams. Heyward-Bey had three grabs for 19 yards, while Wheaton had two catches for 16 yards. Both were targeted three times.

Fantasy Tip: DHB ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and Wheaton ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) weren't great FantasyScore options to start, but now that Le'Veon Bell is another receiving option back from suspension, and the team is without Ben Roethlisberger for a while, their fantasy appeal has lessened dramatically.

Steelers | Sammie Coates' stock is down

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 20:41:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates is considered to be the No. 5 wide receiver by beat writer Ed Bouchette, behind WRs Darrius Heyward-Bey for the No. 3 wideout job.

Fantasy Tip: Coates, the rookie out of Auburn, is also believed to be behind Tyler Murphy, according to Bouchette. Coates has plenty of upside, but he has a while to go before he makes a splash in fantasy.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey confident

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 14:34:12 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey has been playing with a lot of confidence, according to QB Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger said he and Hewyard-Bey have developed somewhat of a rapport with each other since working out in Georgia together. Roethlisberger said he believes Heyward-Bey will step up and play fine when WR Martavis Bryant is suspended.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward-Bey's workload should increase during the first four weeks of the season, but he'll probably play sparingly once Bryant returns. Leave him off your fantasy rosters.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey with bigger role

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 06:34:03 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey will have a bigger role with WR Martavis Bryant suspended the first four games.

Fantasy Tip: Sammie Coates will likely be the No. 4 on the depth chart then. DHB's fantasy value is very minimal, but he's in the WR5 conversation.

Steelers | Darrius Heyward-Bey may be No. 3 WR

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 17:38:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey could be the No. 3 wide receiver if WR Martavis Bryant has to sit out the first four weeks of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward-Bey did not have much of a role in the offense last season and received most of his time on special teams. He probably would not receive a lot of targets in the first four games and should not be an option in drafts.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant elevated

Tue, 23 Dec 2014 07:14:45 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has been promoted to WR2 on the depth chart over WR Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant has been fairly useless in fantasy after his midseason breakout. He's a boom candidate as a flex in Week 17, but the bust possibility is quite real.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant emerges as another WR option

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 09:48:08 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant cut into WR Markus Wheaton's workload in Week 7 against the Houston Texans, and QB Ben Roethlisberger took three "shot" plays down the field to Bryant. The team is unsettled at receiver behind WR Antonio Brown, with WRs Wheaton, Lance Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey fighting for targets. It was the first game in which Bryant was active this year.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant had a fine showing on Monday night in his first game this year. However, the second and third options behind Brown are hard to predict right now, making them nothing more than risky flex plays based on matchups.
