Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub is the Oakland Raiders' top quarterback target if he is released this offseason. The team is also interested in New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez if he is released. Free-agent QBs Josh Freeman (Vikings) and Michael Vick (Eagles) are also expected to be options.

It is highly unlikely that New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez returns, according to a league source, and definitely not at his cap number. "[It is] highly unlikely that Mark returns to the Jets at this point," said one league source familiar with the thinking of Jets management and general manager John Idzik. "Everything is pointing in that direction. And if he did, certainly not at the cap number."

The New York Jets likely will ask QB Mark Sanchez to take a pay cut if they decide not to release him this offseason. The team is still expected to release Sanchez during the offseason.

The New York Jets met with the representatives for QB Mark Sanchez Friday, Feb. 22 to discuss his future. While nothing was resolved, the two sides will keep an open line of communication. Sanchez is expected to return to New Jersey next week to rehab at the Jets facility. It is believed a decision will have to be made on Sanchez by March 25. The expectation is that he will ultimately be released.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he'd like QB Mark Sanchez to return to the team this year. Sanchez will count $13.1 million against the salary cap this year, and he'd have to take a major pay cut to stick around. "Let's just let it play out," Ryan said at the NFL Scouting Combine. "I always want guys back…. (Would) I want him back? Absolutely. Would I want all my guys back? You guys know my answer. You know how I feel about my players. That's just the way it is."
