Broncos | Mark Sanchez staying focused

Mon, 02 May 2016 13:57:19 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez still views himself as a starting quarterback and believes Denver drafting QB Paxton Lynch was affirmation of his starting status. "Absolutely, that's the message I've received," Sanchez said. "I'm thrilled with the opportunity."

Sanchez hasn't let Lynch or any potential trades change his focus. "I just kind of learned with time, who knows what's going to happen and who cares? What are you supposed to do? Meet your teammates, develop a relationship with them, learn the playbook, get involved in the community, that's it, those three things."

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez is certainly approaching this situation with maturity. He's probably the safer option as a starting quarterback for Denver, at least in 2016. Lynch appears to be the quarterback of the future. Neither Sanchez nor Lynch should be regarded as a starting fantasy quarterback this season, though.

Broncos | No Brian Hoyer for Denver

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 16:11:11 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is not a part of the Denver Broncos' immediate plans. The Broncos informed Hoyer Friday, April 29, that they will not be signing him. Denver will stick with three quarterbacks for now because general manager John Elway wants QBs Mark Sanchez, Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian to receive as many repetitions as possible.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez does have the edge right now and is the safer starting option for the Broncos in 2016. It's important for Lynch to become acclimated to Denver's offense and the feel of the NFL this year. Lynch is likely the future of Denver's quarterback position, but his growth process will take some time. Sanchez is not a QB1 and should only be started as a bye-week replacement in good matchups.

Broncos | Paxton Lynch to compete for starting gig

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 20:48:11 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch will compete with QB Mark Sanchez and QB Trevor Siemian for the starting job, according to executive vice president John Elway.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez should be considered the frontrunner to open the year as the starter, but he would be a lower-end QB2. Lynch has intriguing potential in dynasty and keeper leagues, but he may need at least a year to develop.

Broncos | Denver content with QB options?

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 12:02:39 -0700

The Denver Broncos seem fine with going to training camp with QB Mark Sanchez, QB Trevor Siemian and a rookie quarterback, in the opinion of The Denver Post's Cameron Wolfe.

Fantasy Tip: Don't rule out the Broncos trading for Colin Kaepernick during the draft, but that scenario is appearing less and less likely. A rookie quarterback could come in and compete for the job in training camp, but Denver would likely prefer to groom him for down the road. That means Sanchez is the projected starter. He has a lot to work with in this offense, but he'll probably remain in more of a game-manager role. Sanchez is a midrange fantasy backup if he's starting.

Broncos | Trevor Siemian could compete for job

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 09:12:15 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian could compete with QB Mark Sanchez for the starting quarterback role this year, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. "Absolutely, Trevor's a young player who made up a lot of ground last year, we think a lot of him," Kubiak said. " ... Trevor will know what he's doing when he walks in here (April 18). It will be up to him ... I know our football team has a lot of confidence in him, I know I do. He's got the talent to do it, we'll see." However, the Broncos are expected to take a long look at quarterbacks in this year's draft.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are fully expected to draft a quarterback of the future, so while Siemian could push Sanchez in training camp this fall, it's unlikely he's on the field as the starting quarterback unless an injury occurs. Siemian shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar.

Broncos | Competition doesn't worry Mark Sanchez

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 12:58:23 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez isn't worried about the possible competition from San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick if Kaepernick is traded to the Broncos. Sanchez is focused on making the most of his opportunity and competing for the starting quarterback position. "I will be friendly and professional with whoever is there. But I want this bad. Really bad," Sanchez said. "I want what [Denver] experienced last year."

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are still at an impasse with a Kaepernick trade, so Sanchez looks to be the favorite to start for now. If a trade falls through, Denver will likely draft a quarterback. They may even draft one if they trade for Kaepernick. The bottom line is that Mark Sanchez is not in starting fantasy quarterback territory.

Broncos | Mark Sanchez working with receivers

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 13:44:35 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez is holding his annual passing camp Monday, April 4, Tuesday, April 5, and Wednesday, April 6, in California. He will work with Denver wide receivers, tight ends, running backs and QB Trevor Siemian.

Fantasy Tip: It's still unclear if Sanchez will be the starter for the Broncos in 2016, but he's certainly playing the part for now. Whether he starts or not, he's comfortably in backup fantasy quarterback territory.

Broncos | Denver not rushing QB decision

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 10:03:45 -0700

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said the Broncos are not in a rush to add another quarterback this offseason. Kubiak said QB Mark Sanchez will learn the team's offense quickly because of his familiarity with the verbiage during his days in college, and Sanchez has been at the team facility offseason since he signed. Free-agent QBs Robert Griffin III (Redskins) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) are options, as well as trading for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer or Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon.

Fantasy Tip: Denver will likely bring in another QB either through the draft, in free agency or via trade to compete with Sanchez for the starting role. At this point, whoever is under center in Week 1 for the Broncos will surely be more of a fantasy backup.

Broncos | Gary Kubiak likes Mark Sanchez

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 09:19:24 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez could flourish in Denver's system, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. "One of the things we feel really good about is we feel good about getting Mark," Kubiak said. "Mark's got 60 starts in this league -- he's started two AFC Championship (games) ... we feel really good about him, how he fits. He's got some background in what we do."

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos plan on bringing in another QB to compete with Sanchez this year, so he's not guaranteed any starting job just yet. But if he does end up being the starter, he may fit Denver's scheme on offense and be underrated in fantasy. However, you shouldn't think of him as anything more than a midrange fantasy backup in 2016.

Broncos | Quarterback competition for Denver

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 12:03:17 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez will not be handed the starting job, according to general manager John Elway. Elway said the Broncos will bring someone in to compete. "Everything is out there. There are still a lot of guys [available]," Elway said. "You never know what's going to fall out of the tree. We are not in any rush."

Fantasy Tip: Colin Kaepernick, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Robert Griffin III are regarded as the top options available at quarterback right now. The Broncos have discussed a Kaepernick trade with the San Francisco 49ers, but nothing has come to fruition yet. If Sanchez does start, he still won't be worth starting in fantasy leagues.
