Lions | Detroit going no-huddle often

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 06:12:39 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and the other Lions quarterbacks have run a no-huddle offense 62% of the time this preseason. The Lions ran a no-huddle offense just 7% of the time last season. According to ProFootballFocus, Stafford has completed all six of his passes for 108 yards when targeting WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones out of the no-huddle. He's 6-for-11 passing for 63 yards on the rest of his throws combined. Overall, Stafford has completed 70.6% of his passes this preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford had a big second half last year with 19 touchdowns and two interceptions when offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter took over. He lost Megatron to retirement, but the show appears to roll on. Stafford is in the lower-middle portion of starting quarterbacks, but he could be on the cusp of that breakthrough year.

Lions | Matthew Stafford wants quicker pace

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 14:08:14 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he hopes the offense plays at a quicker pace this season. He has gone 12-for-17 for 171 yards in two preseason games when the team has used an up-tempo offense.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford played well once Jim Bob Cooter became the offensive coordinator last season and should continue to improve this season. He did lose Calvin Johnson during the offseason but still has several weapons to work with in the passing game. Stafford probably should be a high-end No. 2 quarterback in most leagues but could be used as a starter against certain opponents.

Lions | Taylor Decker struggles in debut

Fri, 12 Aug 2016 19:49:35 -0700

Detroit Lions OT Taylor Decker was flagged for a holding penalty and allowed a sack, which resulted in a fumble by QB Matthew Stafford, in a 30-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the preseason Friday, Aug. 12.

Lions | Anquan Boldin expects to work in slot

Wed, 03 Aug 2016 21:23:57 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Anquan Boldin has been a steady target for QB Matthew Stafford throughout training camp, according to beat writer Tim Twentyman. He is expected to step into the slot and add toughness, experience and production to the position group.

Fantasy Tip: Boldin posted 69 receptions, 789 yards and four touchdowns last season in San Francisco despite a shaky quarterback situation. He is playing with a much better quarterback and similar production can be expected despite the fact he is 35 years old. Consider him a solid WR4 or flex option in most fantasy formats.

Lions | Mathew Stafford expects different offense

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 20:55:12 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he expects to lean on the running game a little more in 2016 with WR Calvin Johnson now retired. "I think it'll make us different," he said Thursday, July 28. "It's on us to make it more dangerous. We got to go out there and make the plays."

Fantasy Tip: It's tough to gauge how Stafford will perform without Johnson leading the passing attack, but he should still be viewed as a high-end QB2.

Lions | Matthew Stafford unsung so far

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 16:54:25 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford tallied over 4,200 passing yards and 32 touchdowns last season, throwing nearly 600 passes.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford finished as the No. 8 quarterback in fantasy leagues last year, but he's only being drafted as the No. 19 quarterback. His volume alone should give him more consideration, even if Calvin Johnson is gone. Detroit will continue to throw a lot, and Stafford still has good weapons at his disposal. It's safer to draft him as a high-end QB2, but he could reach QB1 again in 2016.

Lions | Detroit offense tougher for defenses?

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 17:50:14 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford believes his offense will be tougher to defend without former WR Calvin Johnson. Stafford said defenses won't know who the Lions will go to on offense, whereas most of the time in previous years Johnson was their go-to guy.

Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate takes over as the No. 1 wide receiver in Detroit, and he's a WR2 candidate in 2016. Marvin Jones figures to be the No. 2 receiver, but he shouldn't be viewed as more than a WR4 with WR3 upside.

Lions | Matthew Stafford will still let it fly

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 05:58:22 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed a career-best 67.2% of his passes during the 2015 season, but offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter still wants to utilize Stafford's big arm and gunslinger mentality.

"We're not going to bury that guy yet," Cooter said after organized team activities finished. "We had to do what we had to do last year with certain instances, kind of where we were in the season, and some of that showed up in the game tape. I don't think we'll put any restraints on our quarterback. So there may be some short passes, there may be some long ones. So we're not going to restrain him at all."

Fantasy Tip: While Stafford is still best viewed as a No. 2 quarterback and matchup play, he thrived in Cooter's offense after the midseason switch up and now has a full offseason working in the system. It's still tough to gauge the offense without Calvin Johnson, though, and Stafford's inconsistency prevents him from being a set-and-forget option.

Lions | Film different for Matthew Stafford

Mon, 30 May 2016 11:30:22 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is approaching film study in a more traditional fashion this year. Stafford believes defensive looks will be more standard with former WR Calvin Johnson now retired. "Some things are going to look differently to us because of the fact that there was always the Calvin factor," head coach Jim Caldwell said, "just in terms of what kind of coverage he was going to get."

Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate takes over as the Lions' top wide receiver now, but he won't attract nearly as much attention as Johnson. Tate should be viewed as a WR2 with extra value in PPR leagues.

Lions | T.J. Jones on the verge of a breakout?

Sat, 28 May 2016 12:38:29 -0700

Detroit Lions WR T.J. Jones was "one of the obvious stars" in a recent organized team activity on Thursday, May 26, and has earned praised from head coach Jim Caldwell and QB Matthew Stafford for his offseason work.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Marvin Jones will absorb a good chunk of the 150 targets left behind by Calvin Johnson, there is going to be room for a player like T.J. Jones to make some noise for Detroit post-Megatron. The Lions also added Jeremy Kerley as a free agent, but he is primarily a slot receiver - a spot Golden Tate usually occupies in three-wide sets. As such, T.J. Jones is a name owners in all leagues should keep on their watch lists this season.

Lions | Matthew Stafford won't be traded

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 13:54:56 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford will not be traded, according to general manager Bob Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford has had his ups and downs with the Lions over the years. He has always flirted with being a borderline QB1 and a high-end QB2. The loss of Calvin Johnson really hurts his fantasy value, obviously, so it might be safer to take him more as a high-end QB2.

Lions | Matthew Stafford looks to build on '15

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 09:59:35 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is hopeful he still has a hot hand after he exploded for 20 touchdowns, to only four interceptions, and a 105.1 passer rating in nine games with offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter last season.

"We just see (football) the same way, talk about it the same way and that's not to say we like the same stuff all the time," Stafford said of Cooter. "He likes some stuff that I'm not comfortable with, and I'm comfortable with some stuff that he doesn't like, and that's the way it goes. You pick your battles and go from there."

Fantasy Tip: Stafford is losing Megatron this season, but they added Marvin Jones to a stable that includes Golden Tate and a budding Eric Ebron. Stafford is right on that low-end QB1/high-end QB2 seesaw in fantasy.

Lions | Calvin Johnson was wearing down

Sat, 26 Mar 2016 17:13:31 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he knew the NFL was "wearing on" retired WR Calvin Johnson. "Not to say that I expected it, but I wasn't shocked," Stafford said Friday, March 25. "I've known Calvin for seven years and know the effort and the attitude that he plays with, and it takes a toll on people. And he was catching quite a few passes and getting hit quite a bunch, and so it takes a toll."

Fantasy Tip: With Johnson out of the mix, Golden Tate is a low-end WR2 candidate, and Marvin Jones sneak into WR3 territory.

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 16:16:03 -0800

The Detroit Lions have $83.29 million invested in offensive players as free agency approaches. The Lions are projected to be $32.73 million under the cap. QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson combine to make up 29.8% of the allocated money.

Lions | Detroit still high on Matthew Stafford

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 11:49:16 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford still has the belief of the team, and they're still high on him, according to general manager Bob Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford is a low-end QB1 that could still perform up into the midrange with the aging and uncertainty surrounding those quarterbacks in the median.

Lions | Jim Bob Cooter likely to remain

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:17:17 -0800

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is likely to remain on the coaching staff now that the Lions announced that head coach Jim Caldwell will be retained for another season. Cooter helped QB Matthew Stafford to the most consistent stretch of his seven-year career in the second half of this season.

Fantasy Tip: This has to be considered a win for Stafford's 2016 fantasy value. Cooter was great for the entire Detroit offense in the second half of the year, and big things will be expected next year. Stafford is a legitimate QB1 but could be downgraded if Calvin Johnson retires this offseason.

Lions | Matthew Stafford to meet with GM

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 12:30:15 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford will meet with new general manager Bob Quinn before a decision is made on head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Caldwell's status is still very much in question, but Quinn has fully endorsed Stafford as a big part of the Lions' future. The fact that Quinn wants to meet with Stafford before making a decision on Caldwell also speaks to the value Stafford has in the eyes of Quinn.

Lions | Matthew Stafford tosses three TDs

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 19:55:55 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 28 of his 39 pass attempts for 298 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: It was an up and down year for Stafford, but he finished with six straight games with two or more touchdowns to re-emerge as a must-start fantasy option. The team may or may not change coaching staffs during the offseason, but as long as Staff and Calvin Johnson are together the quarterback and wide receiver are each fantasy must-start options.

Lions | Matthew Staffed throws for 301

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 17:38:34 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 29 of 37 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in a 32-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford continued his late-season surge. He has thrown multiple touchdowns in five straight games, totaling 14 scores and one interception during the stretch. He should close the season on a high note against a weak Chicago defense.

Lions | Matthew Stafford tosses three TDs

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 22:46:40 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 22 of his 25 pass attempts in the Week 15 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Dec. 21, finishing with 254 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He set a franchise record in completion percentage in a game at 88 percent (minimum 25 attempts).

Fantasy Tip: Stafford nearly had a fourth touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, but Eric Ebron was ruled down at the half-yard line. Stafford has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option down the stretch.

Lions | Big plays lacking for Lions

Tue, 15 Dec 2015 17:47:01 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and the Detroit offense rank just 23rd in the NFL in plays of 20 yards or more. The Lions failed to accomplish such a play last week against the St. Louis Rams. Furthermore, Detroit is one of eight teams to not record a run of at least 40 yards.

Fantasy Tip: What's more puzzling is that the Lions have some great offensive playmakers, including Calvin Johnson ($7,500, 15.0% of cap), Golden Tate ($5,400, 10.8%), Ameer Abdullah ($4,100, 8.2%) and Theo Riddick ($4,700, 9.4%). And Matthew Stafford ($7,600, 15.2%) isn't lacking in arm strength. Detroit has been a disappointment this year, but they have a chance to redeem themselves this week against one of the worst defenses in the NFL in 2015 in the New Orleans Saints. Don't give up on your Lions just yet.

Lions | Matthew Stafford tosses two TDs

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 18:24:29 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 30 of 46 pass attempts for 245 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Week 14 game against the St. Louis Rams. He also ran twice for five yards.

Fantasy Tip: Staff has thrown for two or more touchdowns in a season-high three straight games, and he can be trusted, win or lose, by fantasy owners. That multi-TD streak should continue against New Orleans' shabby pass defense on Monday Night Football in Week 15.

Lions | Matthew Stafford throws two TDs

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 22:40:57 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford went 23-for-35 for 220 yards and two touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford has played well in his last three games and has seven touchdowns in that span. He will be facing the St. Louis Rams in his next game and could be a decent option for fantasy owners.

Lions | Matthew Stafford gaining steam

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 12:05:44 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has been more effective in play-action passing during the team's three-game winning streak. In the last three games he has 9.7 play-action attempts per game for a completion percentage of 69.0%, and he's thrown three touchdowns and no interceptions. In his first eight games he had just 5.6 play-action attempts per game for a 64.4 completion percentage and a touchdown and interception.

Fantasy Tip: This just goes to show that Stafford ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) is improving and is more comfortable in Jim Bob Cooter's offense. He should once again be a strong play Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers on FantasyScore. In traditional leagues, Stafford is peaking at the right time with a favorable schedule for the fantasy playoffs.

Lions | Matthew Stafford thriving under new OC

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 06:44:07 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is 73-for-111 (65%) for 861 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception the last three weeks under new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.

Fantasy Tip: A lot of that is an aberration game against the Philadelphia Eagles, who had no defense for Calvin Johnson yesterday. Stafford will have a decent matchup against the Green Bay Packers next Thursday, but pump the brakes just a bit before crowning his renaissance.

Lions | Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson go off

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 14:49:22 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson had a hay day Thursday, Nov. 26, against the Philadelphia Eagles. Stafford threw for 337 yards and five touchdowns, while Johnson caught eight passes for 93 yards and three touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford and Johnson had their best outing of the year combined in a rout of the Eagles on Thanksgiving. The Lions have really struggled in 2015, but they really rewarded fantasy owners who stuck with them this week. This may turn out to be their best combined game of the season, but it could be a positive sign of things to come.

Lions | Matthew Stafford's future in flux

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 10:10:35 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford's future in Detroit is very much in doubt following the 2015 season, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) is on a bye this week, but he could be in a shootout situation against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. He'd be a very skeptical low-end flyer on FantasyScore.

Lions | Three Detroit regulars probable

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 13:19:29 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle), WR Calvin Johnson (non-injury) and QB Matthew Stafford (quadriceps) all practiced in full Friday, Oct. 30, and are probable for Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs in London.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) and Stafford ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) should be a popular stack on FantasyScore against a woeful Chiefs passing defense this weekend. Bell ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has become an unreliable fantasy weapon and may find it tough to see notable touches in this three-headed monster of a backfield.

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 14:45:32 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (non-injury) and QB Matthew Stafford (quadriceps) both put in full practices Thursday, Oct. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) and Stafford ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) will probably be a popular stack option on FantasyScore this weekend in London while facing a woeful Kansas City Chiefs passing defense.

Lions | Matthew Stafford on injury report

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 14:37:16 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (quadriceps) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) should be good to go in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs. The bigger issue may be how he'll transition to a new offensive coordinator on a week where the team is heading to London. The Chiefs love to give up big numbers to opposing quarterbacks, though, so Stafford is an attractive daily option.

Lions | Jim Bob Cooter to call plays

Tue, 27 Oct 2015 15:09:05 -0700

Detroit Lions new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter will call the team's offensive plays moving forward, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Caldwell is not concerned with Cooter's lack of experience as a coordinator. Cooter worked with Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning with the Broncos and Indianapolis Colts. Caldwell expects the Lions offensive scheme to change under Cooter, but QB Matthew Stafford isn't sure how exactly it would change. Cooter has a reputation as a great quarterbacks coach, though, with an ability to connect with his players. Cooter's work to improve Stafford's footwork was successful in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: Right off the bat, Stafford ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) already had a better working relationship with Cooter than he ever did with Joe Lombardi, so that has to be encouraging for Stafford's fantasy owners. Detroit's schedule eases up down the stretch, too, making Stafford more attractive to daily owners, continuing in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs in London.

Lions | Matthew Stafford's X-ray results

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 14:43:52 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford's (hand) X-rays came back negative Monday, Oct. 26, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford should be fine for the Week 8 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in London. Despite a fine effort from the KC defense in Week 7, they still remain one of the most vulnerable to the pass, meaning Stafford is in line for a productive weekend.

Lions | Detroit offensive personnel fired

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 13:46:22 -0700

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn and assistant offensive line coach Terry Heffernan were let go Monday, Oct. 26, according to sources. Quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter will take over as the new offensive coordinator. Look for Cooter, and assistant in Indianapolis with head coach Jim Caldwell, and an offensive assistant in Denver in 2013 when Peyton Manning posted huge numbers, to use short to intermediate routes to help QB Matthew Stafford get rid of the ball quicker. The Lions must also protect their quarterback better.

Fantasy Tip: The usually potent Detroit offense has been relatively stagnant so far this year, especially the running game. Whether these changes make a difference remains to be seen, but it couldn't have been much worse than it has been for the Lions. Things won't change overnight, especially if the protection isn't better and the running game doesn't vastly improve, but if they make the right adjustments for Stafford they could be slightly more efficient in the pass game. Just don't expect much downfield just yet.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) went for X-rays on his left hand after the Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Jim Caldwell said Sunday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has re-emerged as a decent FantasyScore option at a mid-tier price level if he can stay healthy and not miss any time.

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 13:40:54 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford went 18-for-26 for 256 passing yards and two touchdowns in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) got off to a torrid start, completing his first seven passes for 128 yards. However, the Minnesota defense made adjustments over the final three quarters and he didn't enjoy the same success near the end of the game.

Lions | Detroit expecting physical game

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 14:10:07 -0700

Detroit Lions WRs Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate expect the Minnesota Vikings to be physical with them in their Week 7 matchup. Minnesota hasn't allowed a team to throw for 300 yards this year and haven't allowed an opposing quarterback to complete more than 65.4% of his passes. QB Matthew Stafford typically has favored short passes against the Vikes as a result. Johnson is likely to draw CB Xavier Rhodes, who is a big and physical cornerback. Johnson only has two 100-yard games in 14 career contests against the Vikings and has double-digit targets in five of those games. Tate has been targeted at least 10 times twice in his three games against Minnesota and has had at least six catches in each game.

Fantasy Tip: Both receivers could have decent games, but Tate ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is clearly the better value pick against a physical secondary because of his ability to excel on the shorter slants and routes.

Lions | Matthew Stafford tries to stay hot

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 20:47:35 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford will face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7. He passed for 286 yards, two touchdown and an interception while running for 20 yards in the first meeting in Minnesota in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) had a giant performance last week, tossing for a season-high 405 yards and four touchdowns while also running for a season-best 37 yards. He is a solid FantasyScore option at a cut-rate price.

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 14:58:21 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw for 405 yards in a 37-34 overtime win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) came a long way from the QB that was yanked last week in the Lions' lopsided loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Keep in mind the Lions are still quite shaky, especially with offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi constantly on the hot seat, but this game should call off the dogs for a week.

Lions | Matthew Stafford moving on

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 12:17:51 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he's ready to move on from his benching in Week 5, adding that his relationship with head coach Jim Caldwell is good. Stafford said his confidence in his ability has not wavered and that he's going to be the same quarterback he's always been.

Fantasy Tip: Being the same quarterback he's always been may not be advisable for Stafford given his dismal display this year. Stafford ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) just cannot be trusted until he gets back on track from his derailment of a season. Look elsewhere at quarterback for the time being.

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 08:18:02 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford will remain the starting quarterback, despite being benched in Week 5 Sunday, Oct. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) faces the Chicago Bears in Week 6, who have been good against opposing quarterbacks the last three weeks. Stafford is a risky midrange grab on FantasyScore.

Lions | Matthew Stafford pulled in blowout

Detroit Lions WR Matthew Stafford was benched late in the third quarter of the Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals, down 35-7. QB Dan Orlovsky replaced him.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if the winless Lions plan to make a quarterback change, but it's bad news for the FantasyScore outlook for Stafford ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) going forward. Orlovsky ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) might be worth grabbing just in case, in formats which require two starting signal callers.

Lions | Matthew Stafford not connecting

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 15:18:21 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford was just 1-for-5 for 15 yards when targeting WR Calvin Johnson on passes at least 10 yards downfield in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks Monday, Oct. 5. On the season he's 5-for-18 targeting Johnson on throws of that distance.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't get any easier this weekend against the Arizona Cardinals and shutdown corner Patrick Peterson, who will likely be matched up on Megatron. Fading both Stafford ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) and Johnson ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) is probably the preferred daily strategy for another week.

In three career starts against the Cardinals, Stafford is 66-for-106 (56.9%) for 707 yards, two touchdowns, four interceptions and a passer rating of 66.3. He faces Arizona in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) and the Lions are looking for their first win of the season, and they have yet to hit a stride on offense. It could happen this weekend but is unlikely against a very aggressive and good Cardinals defense. Look to fade Stafford yet again in daily contests.

Lions | Matthew Stafford coming up short

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 10:49:30 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has now gone seven straight games without throwing for 300 yards, which is the longest streak of his career since his first seven starts.

Fantasy Tip: In Stafford's ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) defense, he has faced some pretty stout defenses to begin the 2015 season. Plus, the Lions haven't been able to get anything going on the ground, which has made it extremely difficult to stretch opponents through the air. Another tough matchup looms in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals. It's probably wise to fade him in daily games for another week.

Lions | Matthew Stafford does little again

Mon, 05 Oct 2015 21:41:13 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 24 of his 35 pass attempts for 203 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 4 game Monday, Oct. 5, against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) and the Detroit offense managed zero touchdowns, although they came awfully close in the final seconds of the game when Calvin Johnson fumbled at the goal line. At this point Stafford cannot be trusted in FantasyScore, regardless of price.

Lions | Detroit's offense struggling

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 14:32:06 -0700

The Detroit Lions and QB Matthew Stafford have the No. 27-ranked offense in the league after three weeks, averaging only 305 total yards per game. The Lions' rushing offense is currently last in the league and is averaging just 45 yards per game. The passing game is ranked 12th at 260 yards per game.

Fantasy Tip: It certainly won't get any easier for Detroit this Monday night on the road against a Seattle Seahawks defense that is much better with the return of Kam Chancellor. It's wise to fade Stafford ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) on FantasyScore and downgrade the rest of Detroit's offensive weapons this week.

Lions | Deep passes lacking for Lions

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:05:33 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson has only been thrown to deeper than 15 yards three times since the third quarter of Week 1. On the season, QB Matthew Stafford has only made 14 attempts of passes 15 yards or more. "There [have] been routes that have been called that are deep routes and those kinds of things," head coach Jim Caldwell said. "Sometimes it just doesn't happen."

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps the constant pressure on Stafford is causing him to release the ball quicker, thus decreasing deep ball attempts. The Lions need to block better and run the ball better if they want to see more success down the field. This week, Johnson, Stafford and company are risky options considering their recent struggles and a tough matchup in Seattle.

Lions | Matthew Stafford looking for past success

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 09:06:20 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has posted a quarterback rating of 100 or better in just eight of his last 51 regular season games. He had 10 games with a 100-plus rating during the 2011 season.

Fantasy Tip: A road game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4 doesn't stand as a slump-busting matchup, and Stafford ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) checks out a fringe QB1 for seasonal leagues with a lot of risk attached. He has the weapons, but the run game hasn't been able to help Stafford and the vertical attack. In fact, Detroit ranks last in the league with just 135 rushing yards this season. FantasyScore players should view Stafford as a contrarian flier for Week 4 contests.

Lions | Matthew Stafford ready to roll

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 16:36:17 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ribs) is active for the Week 3 game against the Denver Broncos. He was listed as probable on the injury report.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) was banged up last week, but he could shine in a primetime home game, and he is always a dangerous FantasyScore option as long as Calvin Johnson is healthy.

Lions | Matthew Stafford listed as probable

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 13:14:41 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ribs) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 25, and is probable for Week 3 against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) will play but won't be 100% percent healthy. And he's facing a tough Denver rush defense that could the Detroit offense more problems. Stafford is a shaky daily selection this weekend.
