New York Jets LB Aaron Maybin said he's already added six pounds since the team's offseason program opened last week, boosting him to between 235 and 240 pounds. His target weight for the 2012 season is between 240 and 250 pounds, so that he can be "more comfortable" staying on the field outside of passing situations.

New York Jets LB Aaron Maybin is looking for a bigger role in the team's defense this upcoming season. "I'm just trying to make sure that through this offseason, our coaching staff sees exactly what I see," Maybin said. "And that they're confident putting me out there on first and second down, and knowing that the same production that comes on third down can come on first and second down as well."

Jets | Aaron Maybin to receive original round tender

Updating a previous report, New York Jets restricted free-agent LB Aaron Maybin will receive an original round tender because he was drafted in the first round. It was originally though he would receive a first round tender but the team would receive the same compensation under the original round tender. Maybin would receive $1.3 million under the original round tender as opposed to the $2.7 million under the first round tender.

He is is a three-way tie for the league lead in forced fumbles, with three in limited playing time. "That just shows how he plays," head coach Rex Ryan said. "He is a passionate guy and his motor is running."
