Braves | Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis hot

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 14:38:29 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman and OF Nick Markakis combined to go 12-for-20 with nine runs scored over the weekend, and Freeman has four home runs in the last eight games. Markakis is hitting .375 to start the year.

Fantasy Tip: Both Freeman ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) and Markakis ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) should be considered strong plays at FantasyScore while they are hot at the plate. However, you may want to reconsider starting them both in daily games tonight while facing New York Mets starter Jon Niese, a lefty.

Braves | Freddie Freeman homers again

Sat, 18 Apr 2015 20:52:37 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored in a 6-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, April 18, and he has three home runs in his last four games and four on the year.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) has never hit more than 23 home runs in a season in his career, but he has been a solid all-around hitter. It remains to be seen if the uptick in power is a sign of things to come, but regardless, Freeman makes a solid play at FantasyScore right now.

Braves | Freddie Freeman looking to improve swing

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 12:31:36 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman said his swing is not where he wants it to be at this point even though he has gone 5-for-11 with two doubles, two home runs and six RBIs in his first five spring training games. "I'm not where I want to be now, I'm not hitting balls to left-center and up the middle," Freeman said. "Obviously I'm happy with the results I'm getting, but I'd rather line out up the middle. I'd rather be 0-for-11 with 11 line-outs up the middle."

Fantasy Tip: Freeman has been able to put up solid numbers and could take that into the season if he feels that his swing is where it needs to be. Freeman is not a part of the best lineup in MLB, which hurts his value, but he should still be an option in one of the earlier rounds of drafts this season.

Braves | Freddie Freeman unlikely for full season

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 11:42:57 -0800

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is unlikely to play a full 162-game season again in 2015. However, he won't be out of the lineup enough for the team to worry about carrying a backup who doesn't play multiple positions. Manager Fredi Gonzalez doesn't plan to carry a third catcher on the roster, meaning 3B Chris Johnson will be the primary backup at first base as he was the last two years. Gonzalez would like to give Freeman a day off occasionally when the team faces a tough left-hander. Freeman played in every game last year and all but six innings the entire season.

Fantasy Tip: Many are high on Freeman in 2015 as a solid fantasy first baseman in the early rounds once the elite names come off the board. Freeman's fantasy floor is rather safe, but his home run output may never take the next step if he continues to hit as many liners as he does. Also, you have to take into account that the lineup around him won't help him out much at all.

Braves | Freddie Freeman slumping

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:34:45 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman has hit .171 (7-for-41), with a .569 OPS and .194 BABIP since the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: The BABIP is unsustainably low, but an 18.8 percent line drive rate will hinder any batting average. Test the trade waters to see if there is an impatient Freeman owner in your league. He is an elite bat in a minor funk who is due for a hot stretch.
