Braves | Freddie Freeman pain-free

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 10:07:24 -0800

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) hit 25 balls off a tee Thursday, Jan. 21, and said it was the first time he swung pain-free in seven months.

Fantasy Tip: First base is loaded this year, and Freeman could fall through the cracks to the midrange of the position. He's a nice bounce-back candidate.

Braves | Freddie Freeman's wrist healthy

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 13:54:09 -0800

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) had a week free of pain and he appears to have turned the corner from a wrist injury that cost him power in the second half of the year.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman hit .242 when he returned in August and September, so there is a chance he will do better in 2016. Of course, he is also the subject of trade talks, so his draft position will depend on where he ends up and how healthy he is.

Braves | Freddie Freeman not going anywhere

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 12:08:36 -0800

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is not up for trade this offseason, according to general manager John Coppolella.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves already dealt Andrelton Simmons last week and have been rumored to be willing to party with other pieces as well. Freeman is a budding superstar first baseman that should be a lock for 20-plus home runs and a useful average for fantasy owners if he plays a full season in 2016.

Braves | Freddie Freeman not being discussed

Tue, 17 Nov 2015 10:35:40 -0800

Contrary to a previous report, Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is not being shopped in an offseason trade.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman could be on the verge of a breakout season as he enters the prime of his career. He hit 18 home runs for the second straight year but did it in less games in 2015 (118). Freeman provides fantasy owners a good mix of power and average once the top names are off the board, and you'll probably be able to snag him a little cheaper next year.

Braves | Freddie Freeman being shopped

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 10:37:49 -0800

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is being shopped this offseason, according to sources from three different teams. One source said discussions were "the talk of the (Arizona) Fall League" this month. Freeman hit .276 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 118 games in 2015 and is signed through 2021 and is owed $118.5 million over those six years. The Braves are also considering trading SP Julio Teheran and OFs Nick Markakis and Cameron Maybin as they look to rebuild.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves traded defensive specialist Andrelton Simmons last week and are clearly looking to rebuild. Freeman is their best player remaining, and he easily has 20-plus home run power over a full season. A move out of Atlanta would likely boost his fantasy value even further.

Braves | Freddie Freeman may not start again

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 12:51:37 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) will be available to pinch hit but may not start another game this season. He's dealing with a small bone spur in his wrist, but it's not expected to require surgery. Freeman wants to avoid surgery because it'd cause him to miss all or most of his offseason recovering.

Fantasy Tip: That effectively ends Freeman's ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) usefulness to FantasyScore gamers for the rest of the year. Nick Swisher ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is starting at first base tonight but has a tough matchup in Washington Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann.

Braves | Freddie Freeman cleared to keep playing

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 16:17:46 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) had his wrist examined Monday, Sept. 28, and was cleared to keep playing for the rest of the season. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said the team is treating him as day-to-day, and Gonzalez plans to play Freeman for four of the final six games to end the year. Freeman is expected to be rested Thursday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 4, but it could change if the wrist starts to ache. He has left a few games early, but Freeman is 9-for-26 (.346) with three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI in the last nine games heading into Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: It's all a matter of pain tolerance for Freeman ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) to close out the year. It's a risk on FantasyScore, but one potentially worth taking based on how he's swung the bat in the last week or so, depending on the matchup.

Braves | Freddie Freeman will be back in ATL

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 12:34:44 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman will be retained by the organization for 2016, according to team sources. The Braves plan to overhaul their roster but have indicated Freeman is off limits.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has approximately the same numbers (.280-18-66) despite missing some time this season. He is a strong FantasyScore option and a strong 1B for keeper lists in 2016.

Braves | Freddie Freeman collects three hits

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 20:46:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and a walk in a 12-11 loss to the Miami Marlins Friday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has two homers and seven RBI in his last two games. He continues to hammer right-handed pitching, and he is a solid matchup play at FantasyScore.

Braves | Freddie Freeman playing through pain

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 13:36:05 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) said he is still experiencing the same wrist pain Friday, Sept. 25, but he will still play as long as he is able to endure it.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman's ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) huge five-RBI showing Wednesday, Sept. 23, should be seen as more of an anomaly than as an outing to expect. After all, he owns a .396 slugging percentage since returning from the disabled list Wednesday, Aug. 19. He should be viewed as a risky FantasyScore play.
