Red Sox | Koji Uehara is the closer

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 11:26:10 -0800

Boston Red Sox RP Koji Uehara (back) heads into the 2015 season as the guaranteed closer, according to manager John Farrell. However, Uehara is approaching it as though he's not guaranteed the role after he had a 19.29 ERA during a stretch of six outings from Aug. 16 through Sept. 4 last year while he dealt with "a little lower back issue." Uehara said his back issue "wasn't fatigue," and it didn't impact his offseason workout routine.

Fantasy Tip: Uehara's job security makes him worthy of a draft pick as your closer in the middle rounds of fantasy baseball drafts. He should have plenty of rope in the role to start the year, even though Edward Mujica, Junichi Tazawa and Alexi Ogando have the stuff to pitch in the ninth inning, too.

Red Sox | Koji Uehara had arm issues

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 10:52:53 -0800

Boston Red Sox RP Koji Uehara (arm) said he dealt with arm issues at the end of last year, but he's healthy heading into spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Uehara heads into spring training as the team's closer yet again, despite a rough end to the 2014 season, which was apparently directly related to some arm troubles he dealt with. Assuming he's healthy, Uehara will be drafted as a middle-of-the-pack closer in the middle rounds of standard fantasy baseball leagues.

Red Sox | Koji Uehara and three others on waivers

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 09:54:47 -0700

The Boston Red Sox placed RP Koji Uehara, 1B Mike Napoli, 1B/OF Daniel Nava and 3B Will Middlebrooks on revocable trade waivers.

Fantasy Tip: There's a chance one of them will be traded, so NL-only players might have another commodity to buy soon. If Uehara is dealt, expect Junichi Tazawa to take over save chances for Boston. Grab him if you can for this possibility.

Nationals | Scouting Red Sox

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 10:43:43 -0700

The Washington Nationals had a scout in attendance at the Boston Red Sox's games this weekend, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. The scout was on his usual coverage, but the Nats also had their top evaluators in Boston the previous weekend, and SP Jon Lester pitched in both series. It's unlikely Washington is looking at RPs Andrew Miller or Koji Uehara.
