Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton starting after all

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 15:01:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (side) is in the lineup Thursday, June 2, after all, as he's starting in right field and hitting cleanup versus Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio. OF Cole Gillespie is back on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Well that's a relief for his owners, as he was sitting when the lineups were first released earlier today. Fortunately, Stanton is back in there, and despite going 0-for-3 with a walk in his return last night, he should be reinserted into all fantasy lineups.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna out

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 11:43:48 -0700

Miami Marlins OFs Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna are not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 2. OF Cole Gillespie is starting in right field and is hitting sixth, while OF Ichiro Suzuki is in center field and is batting leadoff against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton takes a seat after returning from a side injury and going 0-for-3 last night. Stanton last homered May 24. Suzuki is an attractive daily pick at a discount while hitting leadoff against the struggling Nicasio. Gillespie has very limited daily upside and is a desperation flyer.

Marlins | Still no Giancarlo Stanton

Mon, 30 May 2016 13:46:44 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (side) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 30. OF Cole Gillespie is starting in right field and batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Monday.

Fantasy Tip: This will be the sixth consecutive game Stanton has missed, and before the injury, Stanton went 7-for-59 with just two RBI through his previous 17 games. Remain patient with the slugger, but he might fall short of his preseason billing. Gillespie is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats Monday.

Marlins | Two Miami OFs remain sidelined Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 10:08:32 -0700

Miami Marlins OFs Giancarlo Stanton (side) and Christian Yelich (back) remain out of the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Aaron Blair Saturday, May 28. OF Ichiro Suzuki will bat leadoff and play right field, while OF Cole Gillespie plays left field and bats seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton and Yelich are both considered day-to-day and could be used off the bench during this weekend's series but should be avoided in all fantasy formats as long as they aren't starting. Suzuki is hitting .407 (11-for-27) with two doubles and an RBI over the past week, while Gillespie is batting .313 (5-for-16) with a pair of doubles and four RBI over the same span. Both players are excellent sources of productive cap relief for daily fantasy contests.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich out

Fri, 27 May 2016 12:00:51 -0700

Miami Marlins OFs Giancarlo Stanton (side) and Christian Yelich (back) remain out of the starting lineup Friday, May 27. OF Ichiro Suzuki is playing right field and batting leadoff again, while OF Cole Gillespie is starting in left field and batting seventh against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton and Yelich remain day-to-day, so keep tabs on their progress heading into weekend play. Suzuki has been hot this week and gains added short-term value hitting leadoff with both Yelich and Stanton out. He's a fine addition to daily lineups against Perez. Gillespie is more of a desperation daily flyer with justs six home runs in his six-year career.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton out Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 08:09:53 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (side) is out of the lineup again Thursday, May 26, after missing the previous game with soreness in his right side. OF Cole Gillespie is hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough break for Stanton because he broke a slump with a home run the night before the soreness pulled him from the lineup. It's pretty telling that he has been held out two days in a row when the team has the designated hitter available in Tampa. Gillespie is hitting .154 with seven K's in 13 at-bats. He isn't a good option against Drew Smyly.

Marlins | Christian Yelich remains out

Wed, 25 May 2016 15:01:13 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 25. OF Cole Gillespie is starting in left field and is batting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich remains day-to-day, but the longer his back remains an issue, the greater chances of him landing on the DL. Stay tuned for news on his progress. Gillespie has only eight at-bats this year and six total home runs in six years in the majors. He's a desperation pick in DFS play this evening.

Marlins | Ichiro Suzuki will not start

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 09:21:08 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Ichiro Suzuki is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Steven Matz Sunday, Sept. 6. OF Cole Gillespie will start in center field and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) may be sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Gillespie ($2,700. 5.4% of cap) has three hits and three RBI over his last nine games and may not be a great option on FantasyScore.

Marlins | Cole Gillespie starting in RF

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:37:37 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Cole Gillespie is starting in right field and hitting sixth against Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos Tuesday, Sept. 1. OF Ichiro Suzuki will start on the bench against a lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Righty Miami sticks against Banuelos, who is returning from the DL tonight, could be sneaky plays on FantasyScore tonight. Gillespie ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) qualifies, and he's hitting a cool .394/.432/.485 with a .917 OPS against left-handers this season.
