Astros | Luis Valbuena likely won't land on DL

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 18:30:11 -0700

Houston Astros INF Luis Valbuena (hamstring) is not expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list, although his strained right hamstring will keep him sidelined until Friday, July 29. However, manager A.J. Hinch hinted that Valbuena could be held out of the lineup until Saturday, July 30, because the club will face a left-handed pitcher Friday.

Fantasy Tip: As the regular season enters the home stretch, Valbuena could wind up losing playing time to 3B Alex Bregman and INF Yulieski Gurriel. However, he still makes a decent option in daily fantasy contests when healthy.

Astros | Luis Valbuena sitting vs. Yankees

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 13:42:22 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 27. SS Alex Bregman is starting at third base and batting seventh against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena left the game with a strained right hamstring injury Tuesday, July 26, so it's worth checking back for updates on his status. He could be in jeopardy of losing playing time going forward but remains a viable own in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Bregman is 0-for-7 to start his career but is a promising youngster with tremendous upside. He should be owned in all deep leagues and monitored universally.

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena (hamstring) left the game Tuesday, July 26, against the New York Yankees due to a strained right hamstring.

Astros | Three Astros starts not playing

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 14:12:23 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker, OF Colby Rasmus and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Tuesday, July 26. 3B Luis Valbuena will start at third base, while SS Alex Bregman will serve as the designated hitter. 1B Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and is batting second. C Evan Gattis will start at catcher and is batting fifth. OF Jake Marisnick will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is currently on a nine-game hitting streak and has two RBI during that span. Gonzalez can be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues during his hot streak. Gattis should be an attractive option in leagues because he is hitting .278 with three home runs and five RBI over the last seven days. Marisnick is hitting .333 this month but is still not a strong fantasy option.

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena went 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI against the Oakland Athletics Friday, July 8.

Astros | Luis Valbuena goes deep

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 21:43:27 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena was 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a pair of runs scored against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena has now homered in back-to-back games, and he has three jacks in his last six starts. The third sacker clubbed 25 home runs a year ago, and he's currently on pace to set a new career high in RBI while also batting 27 points above his career mark. Valbuena has some deep mixed league appeal.

Astros | Houston sitting two lefties

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 10:10:32 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena and OF Colby Rasmus are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Sunday, July 3. 1B Marwin Gonzalez will start at third base and is hitting second, while OF Jake Marisnick will start in left field and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is hitting only .200 with two RBI over the last seven days and probably can be avoided in most leagues. Marisnick is still hitting under .200 this season and does not have much value in most leagues.

Astros | Luis Valbuena reaches the seats

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 18:49:00 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks, two runs scored and two RBIs Wednesday, June 29, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena doesn't look like a power hitter, but he has some surprising pop. He is a tremendous mid-tier DFS option, and worth starting in all AL-only seasonal leagues and deeper mixed fantasy formats.

Astros | Luis Valbuena in two-hole

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 16:05:36 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena is starting at third base and is hitting second against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Monday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena has been hot in June, hitting .309 with two home runs and eight RBI, but he's only hitting .254 on the year. He has pop from the left side but tends to swing and miss too often for owners to rely on in most mixed leagues. He could split time often with Marwin Gonzalez moving forward, too.
