The Washington Post reports the agent for Washington Nationals SS Carlos D. Alvarez, formerly known as Esmailyn Gonzalez, said he doubts his client, who lied about both his age and his name when the club signed him for a $1.4 million bonus in 2006, will be in camp when the rest of Washington's minor leaguers report Friday, March 13.

Melissa Segura, of SI.com, reports Washington Nationals SS Esmailyn Gonzalez falsified his identity as a 19-year-old on the team's roster. He is actually 23-year-old Carlos Alvarez Daniel Lugo, according to four sources. The team signed him for $1.4 million in July of 2006. It is not known if Gonzalez will be able to obtain a visa to try out for the team in Spring Training.

SI.com's Melissa Segura reports Washington Nationals SS Esmailyn Gonzalez, who is listed as 19 years old, is actually 23-year-old Carlos Alvarez Daniel Lugo, according to four sources. The team gave him a $1.4 million signing bonus in 2006.

Bill Ladson, of MLB.com, reports Washington Nationals IF Esmailyn Gonzalez won the Gulf Coast League batting title Wednesday, Aug. 27. He finished the season with a .350 batting average.
