The Baltimore Orioles recalled INF Steven Tolleson from Triple-A Norfolk Wednesday, May 9, and optioned RP Zach Phillips in a corresponding move. C Taylor Teagarden (back) is expected to be moved to the 60-day disabled list.

Baltimore Orioles OF Jai Miller and INFs Matt Antonelli, Ryan Flaherty and Steven Tolleson are competing for two utility spots this spring. Miller could wind up being the team's fifth outfielder, and manager Buck Showalter is looking for another player that can spell SS J.J. Hardy.

The San Diego Padres acquired IF Steven Tolleson from the Oakland Athletics Sunday, May 29, for a player to be named later. He is expected to head to Triple-A Tucson.

The Oakland Athletics reassigned RP Fernando Cabrera, SS Grant Green, P Yadel Marti, OF Jai Miller. C Anthony Recker, 2B Steven Tolleson and 2B Jemile Weeks to the minor league camp Sunday, March 20, reports Susan Slusser, of the San Francisco Chronicle. The team also optioned P Trystan Magnuson and OF Michael Taylor to the minors.

The Oakland Athletics are trying to identify someone to fill their utility infielder role, with IFs Steven Tolleson, Andy LaRoche and Eric Sogard expected to be the top candidates, according to Joe Stiglich of The Mercury News. Tolleson is considered the best all-around fielder, LaRoche has the most major league experience and Sogard is the only one of the three currently on the 40-man roster, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. The team would prefer that SS Grant Green begin the season in the minors, most likely at Double-A Midland.

Oakland Athletics IFs Eric Sogard, Steven Tolleson, Andy LaRoche and Josh Horton are all candidates to start the year as the team's utility infielder, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee. Tolleson might be the favorite because of his ability to play all three positions.
