The Detroit Tigers placed OF Avisail Garcia (heel) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, March 26, and reassigned P Jose Alvarez, C Brad Davis and 3B Kevin Russo to minor league camp. P Luke Putkonen was optioned to Triple-A Toledo.

Fantasy Tip: This virtually ensures that Quintin Berry will be the fourth outfielder on the opening day roster. He'll split time in left field with Andy Dirks mainly.

IFs Brandon Laird and Kevin Russo were also optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The team also reassigned P Steve Garrison. C Jose Gil, OF Jordan Parraz and IF Jorge Vazquez to the team's minor league camp.

P Andrew Brackman went to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, as well as IF's Brandon Laird and Kevin Russo, and OF Melky Mesa. P's Steve Garrison and Ryan Pope were optioned to Double-A Trenton.

New York Yankees IFs Ronnie Belliard, Eric Chavez, Brandon Laird, Eduardo Nunez, Ramiro Pena and Kevin Russo will compete for two utility infielder spots on the 25-man roster during spring training, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. It is believed that one of the spots will go to either Nunez or Pena because they are the only two players capable of playing shortstop.
