He'll be followed in the rotation by SPs Paul Maholm, Kris Medlen, Mike Minor and Julio Teheran. Hudson hasn't started on opening day since 2008. Fantasy Tip: Hudson's valuable traits are slowly declining, and his drop in velocity will have side effects. He's more suited for inclusion in NL only leagues as rotation depth.

Hudson is scheduled to pitch Thursday, March 21, and then again Tuesday, March 26, so he appears to be in line for the honor.

"I'm not making excuses at all," Medlen said. "I got crushed. But I think we would pitch them a little bit different during the year. I felt like I had some 2-2 counts and some 1-1 counts where I would normally go to a changeup or offspeed pitch. But I went fastball and just didn't locate it."
