Fri, 25 May 2012 10:54:53 -0700 The Atlanta Braves are more likely to trade for starting pitching than hitting this summer, but general manager Frank Wren says they may not even do that since they have SP Kris Medlen waiting in the wings. "We have a guy internally who's probably better than any arm who will be available, and that's Kris Medlen. He's never thrown over 120 innings in a season, so we've got to be careful with his innings. But if we feel we need a guy late in the season, we wouldn't be afraid to take him out of the bullpen and transition him into the rotation," Wren said.

He's given up one run in 10 spring innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. Atlanta will choose between SPs Randall Delgado and Julio Teheran to open the year in the rotation.
Fri, 09 Mar 2012 18:27:54 -0800 Atlanta Braves SP Kris Medlen is working on his curveball, trying to add to his arsenal. He said he doesn't want to be a two-pitch pitcher. He worked in a curveball Tuesday, March 6, against Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman for a strikeout. "I'm pretty sure he did not expect a curveball coming just because I'm mainly fastball and changeup," Medlen said.
Tue, 06 Mar 2012 18:04:07 -0800 Atlanta Braves SP Kris Medlen (elbow) allowed a solo home run, three hits and no walks while striking out two batters in two innings of work in a Grapefruit League start against the Washington Nationals Tuesday, March 6. Medlen is a candidate for one of the two vacancies in the Atlanta rotation. He is recovery from elbow surgery.
Fri, 02 Mar 2012 05:53:15 -0800 Atlanta Braves SP Tommy Hanson (concussion) could piggyback with SP Kris Medlen the second time through the rotation this spring.
Mon, 20 Feb 2012 14:41:31 -0800 Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said SP Kris Medlen will be stretched out as a starter this spring just in case a spot opens up in the rotation. Medlen is expected to be targeted for relief this year. He is likely to follow a starting pitcher in spring games, coming on to pitch multiple innings following the starter. "The whole long relief thing — I don't want to say I'm better than that, but I feel like I want a role and I want to be a starter," Medlen said. "Once you get the taste of controlling games and setting the tone, that's my thing."
