Royals | Kris Medlen to return Monday

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals are expected to activate P Kris Medlen (elbow) from the disabled list Monday, July 20. Manager Ned Yost said he will be used as a long reliever, although he envisions him eventually moving back into a starting role.

Fantasy Tip: Medlen is worth monitoring in most fantasy baseball formats, although he won't have any FantasyScore value as long as he's pitching in long relief.

The Kansas City Royals could decide within the next two or three days whether to activate P Kris Medlen (elbow) from the disabled list. He is currently traveling with the team.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen whether the Royals plan to use Medlen in the starting rotation or the bullpen. He is worth monitoring in the majority of fantasy baseball formats.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to monitor Medlen's recovery from his 2014 Tommy John surgery. He is expected to have a role in the second half of this season, and Medlen has been an impact fantasy asset in the past. A speculative leap of faith in deep formats could reward at this point, but in the majority of formats it is still early to make a play for Medlen.

Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment "sooner than later," according to general manager Dayton Moore. Medlen needs to stretch out to five innings before beginning the rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Medlen is recoving from a 2014 Tommy John surgery, and the organization expects him to have a role in the second half of this season. Medlen has been a nice fantasy asset in the past, so he is worth monitoring as he works his way back. A speculative flier in deep formats could reward at this point, but in the majority of formats, Medlen is only worth monitoring at this point.
