Rays | Richie Shaffer could be odd man out

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 09:04:14 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays INF Richie Shaffer could find himself in danger of not making the 25-man roster, with Steve Pearce, Logan Morrison and James Loney expected to share time at first base and designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: The soon-to-be 25-year-old Shaffer batted just .189 last season but showed a promising amount of power, with three doubles and four home runs in 74 at-bats. Pearce and Morrison are expected to get the lion's share of the playing time and Loney could have all or part of the $8 million remaining on his contract eaten so that he can be moved to another team.

Rays | Logan Morrison signs deal

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 10:31:17 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays 1B/OF Logan Morrison avoided arbitration by signing a one-year, $4.2 million deal Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: LoMo has been plagued by injuries, but he's the kind of late flyer you can grab that can make a difference on a championship roster with his power.

Mariners | SEA completes six-player deal with TB

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 18:11:29 -0800

The Seattle Mariners have acquired SP Nathan Karns, minor league P C.J. Riefenhauser and minor league OF Boog Powell from the Tampa Bay Rays, in exchange for 1B Logan Morrison, SS/OF Brad Miller and RP Danny Farquhar.

Fantasy Tip: Karns went 7-5 with a 3.67 ERA in 27 games (26 starts) in 2015 and will likely crack Seattle's rotation next year even if the team brings back Hisashi Iwakuma, making him a late-round draft option for AL-only and deep mixed leagues. Riefenhauser is a left-handed reliever who went 1-0 with a 5.52 ERA in 17 appearances. Powell hit .295 with a .385 OBP and 18 steals while splitting his time between Class AA Montgomery and Class AAA Durham.

Rays | TB completes six-player deal with SEA

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 17:59:45 -0800

The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired 1B/OF Logan Morrison, SS/OF Brad Miller and RP Danny Farquhar from the Seattle Mariners, in exchange for SP Nathan Karns, minor league P C.J. Riefenhauser and minor league OF Boog Powell.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison appears likely to serve as the Rays' designated hitter in 2016, with James Loney expected to remain the team's regular first baseman. Miller could compete for the starting shortstop position, with Asdrubal Cabrera eligible to become a free agent. Farquhar has closing experience at the major league level but will probably be used in a setup role in 2016. Morrison and Miller could be of interest to owners in AL-only leagues during the middle and later rounds of fantasy drafts next spring.

Mariners | Logan Morrison playing right field

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 11:07:50 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B/OF Logan Morrison will bat seventh and play right field against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has had a productive September, batting .292 with four home runs and 13 RBIs over 48 at-bats. However, his .167 career average versus Weaver makes him a somewhat risky play in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Mariners | Logan Morrison sitting against KC

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 14:41:09 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Logan Morrison is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 22. 1B Jesus Montero is starting at first base and is batting seventh against Kansas City Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie.

Fantasy Tip: Montero's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) overall numbers don't look good in 2015, but he's hitting .286 (6-for-21) this month and has hit safely in all but two games he's played in in September. Against the hittable Guthrie, Montero could push you to victory on FantasyScore if you roll the dice on him as a sleeper.

Mariners | Logan Morrison returns to lineup

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 12:52:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Logan Morrison will bat seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Kyle Kendrick Sunday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is batting .321 with three home runs and 10 RBIs this month and is a career .308 hitter versus Kendrick with two solo homers. Feel free to use him in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Mariners | Logan Morrison out of Tuesday lineup

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:57:47 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Logan Morrison is not starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, against the Houston Astros. OF Mark Trumbo is in place of Morrison and batting seventh against Astros SP Scott Feldman.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) drew the short straw with OF Franklin Gutierrez in the DH spot on Tuesday. Trumbo ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting .214 in the past week and has little FantasyScore value.

Mariners | Logan Morrison starting vs. lefty

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:08:11 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Logan Morrison is starting at first base and batting eighth against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks Friday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has been giving way to Jesus Montero ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) with a lefty on the hill most nights, but Morrison will grab a chance Friday. FantasyScore players shouldn't be too excited about starting Morrison, though. He owns a .186/.258/.230 slash line against lefties this season.

Mariners | Jesus Montero draws into lineup

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 15:45:25 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Jesus Montero is starting at first base and hitting eighth against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Friday, Aug. 21. 1B Logan Morrison is out of the lineup against a left-handed pitcher.

Fantasy Tip: Montero ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) and Morrison are basically in a platoon at first base, with Montero facing left-handed pitchers. Montero hasn't really stood out against southpaws in limited at-bats against them this year, and he's a weak daily selection tonight against the dominant Sale.
