The Boston Red Sox announced OF Ryan Westmoreland (brain) underwent successful surgery for a complication of the cavernous malformation in his brain. He originally had brain surgery back in the spring of 2010.

Boston Red Sox OF Ryan Westmoreland (brain) is scheduled to receive an at-bat in an instructional league game in the Dominican Republic Thursday, Dec. 8, and if everything goes well, he will see more at-bats Friday, Dec. 9. He won't be running the bases or playing the field.

Boston Red Sox OF Ryan Westmoreland (brain) has been working out in Florida, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. "He's down in Fort Myers working out," said director of player development Mike Hazen. "He's hitting. He's throwing. He's going through all the workouts, the lifting. I still think the original diagnosis ... it's still going to take some time to get back to where he was. We're not making any hard-line predictions on a timeframe on when he's going to actually come out and play a game."

Boston Red Sox OF Ryan Westmoreland (brain) is recovering nicely after undergoing surgery three months ago to fix a cavernous malformation on his brain, according to ESPNBoston.com's Brendan Hall. Westmoreland has been running and throwing. "If you had asked me three months ago (to now), the progress has been amazing," Westmoreland said. "Everything I've heard from the doctors, they all say the progress has been amazing. I'm excited to keep it going."
