Fri, 17 May 2013 13:44:19 -0700 Cincinnati Reds RP Jonathan Broxton (back) was unavailable to pitch due to a "knot" in his upper back area Thursday, May 16. He'll be ready to pitch Friday, May 17. Fantasy Tip: This explains why J.J. Hoover came into the game late. However, Hoover has been pitching much better this year and could at least have a partial share of saving opportunities if Aroldis Chapman were to miss time due to injuries.
Fri, 03 May 2013 16:32:29 -0700 Cincinnati Reds RP Aroldis Chapman allowed four hits and three earned runs while walking two and striking out one in only two-thirds of an inning in a non-save situation against the Chicago Cubs Friday, May 3. He threw 32 pitches in the outing, and RP J.J. Hoover pitched one-third of an inning with a strikeout to record his first save. Fantasy Tip: Hoover only entered the game because Jonathan Broxton had already been used in the eighth inning. Chapman was likely not allowed to finish the inning because of his high pitch count. It won't be too alarming if Chapman is rested tomorrow night as a result. The outing is disappointing for Chapman's owners, but if it's any consolation, it came in a non-save situation.
Fri, 22 Mar 2013 20:55:27 -0700 Cincinnati Reds P J.J. Hoover has pitched well this spring with 14 strikeouts and just one walk in seven Cactus League appearances, while P Jose Arredondo has pitched well and is out of options. Both players have a good chance at winning bullpen jobs.
Wed, 12 Sep 2012 17:06:13 -0700 Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said he will likely continue to play the matchups in the ninth inning between RPs Jonathan Broxton, Sean Marshall, J.J. Hoover and Jose Arredondo with RP Aroldis Chapman resting for a few days. "(Broxton) is the No. 1 candidate. But it's matchups, too," Baker said. "If they have three lefties, it could be (Sean) Marshall. It could be Broxton, it could be (Jose) Arredondo, it could be (J.J.) Hoover. Broxton is the No. 1 choice. We try to limit Broxton to two days in a row, too."
Thu, 23 Aug 2012 13:40:24 -0700 The Cincinnati Reds optioned C Devin Mesoraco to Triple-A Louisville Thursday, Aug. 23, and recalled RP J.J. Hoover from Louisville in a corresponding move. C Dioner Navarro will be the No. 2 catcher until Mesoraco returns. He was hitting only .210 with five home runs and 14 RBIs, but he'll receive regular at-bats in the minors.
Tue, 21 Aug 2012 15:45:37 -0700 Cincinnati Reds P J.J. Hoover is likely to be called up Wednesday, Aug. 22, when C Devin Mesoraco's two-game suspension ends. RP Nick Masset (shoulder) is another candidate, but he's likely to return Sept. 1.
Fri, 22 Jun 2012 13:24:49 -0700 The Cincinnati Reds activated RP Bill Bray (groin, back) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, June 22, and optioned RP J.J. Hoover to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.
Sun, 27 May 2012 11:49:28 -0700 Cincinnati Reds RP J.J. Hoover (1-0) walked one and struck out two over 1 1/3 scoreless innings in a victory over the Colorado Rockies Saturday, May 26. It was his first career win.
Tue, 24 Apr 2012 21:26:24 -0700 Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday, April 24, that he is unsure what role RP J.J. Hoover will play. When he does pitch, it will be his major league debut. "It's the happiest day of my life so far," Hoover said.
Tue, 24 Apr 2012 10:05:57 -0700 The Cincinnati Reds placed RP Bill Bray (undisclosed) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 24, and recalled P J.J. Hoover in a corresponding move.
