The San Diego Padres have acivated INF/OF James Darnell (oblique) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Tucson.

San Diego Padres OF James Darnell (oblique) will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tucson Monday, April 29, and SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) will likely start a rehab assignment of his own Tuesday, April 30.

San Diego Padres OF James Darnell (oblique) continues to be patient, even though he is itching to get into a spring game. "I would love to be grabbing a bat; lifting weights. I love all of it," Darnell said Wednesday, March 20. "But I understand being patient so this doesn't pop up anymore."

Fantasy Tip: Darnell will open the season with Triple-A Tucson when healthy, but he could be up with the big club at some point. For now, his fantasy value is negligible, but he could be worth an add in NL-only play if he gets the call later this season.

San Diego Padres OF James Darnell (oblique) might have been an option to replace the injured 3B Chase Headley (thumb), but Darnell might miss another two weeks due to a strained left oblique muscle. He has not played since March 11.

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres 3B James Darnell (oblique) is sidelined with a sore right oblique, but manager Bud Black said the injury is "more mild than severe." There is no timetable for when Darnell will return to games.

San Diego Padres OF Kyle Blanks (shoulder) and 3B James Darnell (shoulder) are making their way back from shoulder injuries, and welcome the 38-game Cactus League schedule to work their way back into shape. "Spring training work is still quality over quantity, but if I got 20 extra at-bats because of the extra games, I'd take them," Darnell said Tuesday, Feb. 19. "I'm playing any time they want me to play where ever they want me to play."

San Diego Padres 3B James Darnell (shoulder) is healthy entering spring camp this year after undergoing shoulder surgery last August. "They did a great job. They tightened it to the point where it can't move around, in the front and back," Darnell said. "Both of (the injuries) were the result of playing hard, and that just happens. ... But you just keep going. It's behind me now. It feels really strong. All the muscles are strong." He's unlikely to make the opening day roster, however.
