Indians | Roberto Perez, Chris Gimenez to split time

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 15:43:49 -0700

Cleveland Indians Cs Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez will play "every other day for a while," according to manager Terry Francona. Perez isn't ready for a full workload after just returning from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: The split in playing time will make both Perez and Gimenez largely unattractive to fantasy owners aside from maybe the deepest of AL-only formats. Gimenez is hitting a measly .188 with two homers and six RBI in 35 games.

Indians | Yan Gomes headed to DL

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 06:33:43 -0700

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (shoulder, knee) will go on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right shoulder. Gomes also jammed his left knee, which he said was fine. C Roberto Perez (thumb) will be recalled from his rehab assignment and be activated Monday, July 18. The team said Perez will be their catcher, and the thought of pursuing another one outside of the organization was downplayed. Gomes' season could be over.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes has had a rough year with a .165 average, and those waiting for that to turn around can drop him. Perez had a .228-7-21 line last season and doesn't have a lot of upside outside of two-catcher leagues. You have to wonder, while they downplayed the possibility, if All-Star Jonathan Lucroy comes into play now.

Indians | Roberto Perez making progress

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 20:17:18 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Roberto Perez (thumb) is nearing a return to game action. Manager Terry Francona said Wednesday, June 29, that Perez might play as a designated hitter in a minor-league rehab game as soon as this weekend. Perez is recovering from surgery to repair a broken right thumb, and he has been sidelined since May 1.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Perez is only worth using as a No. 2 backstop in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues as he'll rarely play ahead of Yan Gomes.

Indians | Roberto Perez to be evaluated

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 17:13:59 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Roberto Perez (thumb) has returned to Cleveland to undergo an evaluation on his surgically-repaired right thumb this weekend. According to manager Terry Francona, he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from right thumb surgery. Perez has been running and resumed throwing Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Perez was hitless in 15 plate appearances this year before he landed on the disabled list and will back up Yan Gomes when he returns to action. He is not a great option in any fantasy format.

Indians | Michael Brantley placed on DL

Sat, 14 May 2016 08:43:44 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a shoulder injury. The team recalled 2B Michael Martinez from Class AAA Columbus. C Roberto Perez (thumb) was also moved to the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley missed several games before being placed on the disabled list because of the injury, so it is not known how long he will be sidelined. Marlon Byrd and Jose Ramirez should both receive more playing time because of the injury. Byrd has received limited playing time in May but has four hits and four RBI in his last three games. Ramirez has gone 3-for-13 over the last seven days but is hitting .309 on the season. Both players should be sleeper options in daily fantasy leagues when they play and could also be short-term options in deeper mixed leagues.

Indians | Yan Gomes, Lonnie Chisenhall out

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 08:31:48 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes and OF Lonnie Chisenhall are not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene Sunday, April 24. OF Marlon Byrd will play right field and bat sixth, while C Roberto Perez starts behind the plate and bats ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes had five RBI Saturday but is receiving the day off because the club is playing a day game following a night game, while Chisenhall has collected just two hits in his first 16 at-bats since coming off the disabled list. Byrd has two home runs and five RBI in 36 at-bats this year and is worth considering as a value play for daily fantasy contests, while Perez should strictly be viewed as a source of salary cap relief.

Indians | Yan Gomes has day off

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:46:05 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes is out of the lineup Thursday, April 21, with C Roberto Perez hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Perez is hitless in four at-bats this year, and there are better options at the position than taking a chance on him against Nathan Karns.

Indians | Yan Gomes grabs some pine

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 07:12:49 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes is out of the lineup Thursday, April 14, with C Roberto Perez hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: It's Perez's first start of the season, but it comes against ace Chris Archer. There are better options at catcher today.

Indians | Roberto Perez catching Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 09:22:05 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Roberto Perez will bat seventh against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Sunday, April 10. C Yan Gomes is not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes should be removed from all fantasy lineups Sunday. Perez is making his first appearance of the season and is nothing more than an inexpensive flier option for daily games.

Indians | Yan Gomes, Chris Johnson not in

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:00:25 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes and 3B Chris Johnson are not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. C Roberto Perez is behind the plate and batting seventh, while 2B Michael Martinez draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey.

Fantasy Tip: Duffey has been very impressive in the last month for the Twins. Perez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Martinez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) are nothing more than desperation plays as salary cap relief.
