Wed, 27 Mar 2013 09:58:06 -0700 Detroit Tigers 3B Don Kelly has made the opening day roster after the team sent OF Quintin Berry to the minors. OF Andy Dirks and 3B Matt Tuiasosopo will serve as the team's left fielders.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 05:48:21 -0700 The Detroit Tigers optioned OF Quintin Berry to Triple-A Toledo.
Fri, 22 Mar 2013 10:08:52 -0700 Detroit Tigers OF Andy Dirks (knee) remained out with swelling in his right knee Thursday, March 21, but he hopes to be ready to play Friday, March 22. OF Quintin Berry (knee), a candidate to be the fourth outfielder, returned to action Thursday after missing time with tendonitis in his left patella.
Fantasy Tip: With Nick Castellanos in the minors and Avisail Garcia (foot) nursing an injury, Berry is the clearcut favorite to be the fourth outfielder and split time with Dirks in left field. However, speed and thefts are the extent of Berry's contributions to fantasy squads, and he will only be useful in AL only leagues thanks to his lack of PT.
Sun, 17 Mar 2013 21:59:25 -0700 Detroit Tigers OF Quintin Berry (knee) left the Grapefruit League spring game Sunday, March 17, due to soreness in the same knee which forced him out of the lineup earlier in the spring.
Wed, 06 Mar 2013 20:46:53 -0800 Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Wednesday, March 6, that OF Quintin Berry (knee) should be close to a return to Grapefruit League spring game action. However, he was not listed on the team's travel roster for Thursday, March 7.
Fri, 01 Mar 2013 21:45:36 -0800 The Detroit Tigers have plenty of competition in left field, with OFs Nick Castellanos and Avisail Garcia, Andy Dirks, Quintin Berry, Brennan Boesch and Don Kelly all vying for time at the position.
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 05:47:31 -0800 Detroit Tigers OF Quintin Berry (knee) returned to the lineup Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Tue, 26 Feb 2013 17:40:13 -0800 Detroit Tigers OF Quintin Berry (knee) is dealing with patellar tendonitis that held him out of action Tuesday, Feb. 26, as a precaution. Manager Jim Leyland said Berry dealt with the issue last year and it's something that continues to flare up at times. OF Nick Castellanos started in left field for the second straight day.
Tue, 19 Feb 2013 18:44:01 -0800 Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland announced Tuesday, Feb. 19, that OFs Quintin Berry (center), Nick Castellanos (left) and Avisail Garcia (right) will comprise the starting outfield in the team's first Grapefruit League spring game Friday, Feb. 22, against the Atlanta Braves. "We'll play everybody. I'm going to play all the kids, get our guys ready," Leyland said. "I like to do that. I like playing the kids."
Tue, 05 Feb 2013 12:34:27 -0800 Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski indicated that he doesn't think OFs Avisail Garcia and Nick Castellanos are capable of being part-time players to platoon with OF Andy Dirks in left field. "With Garcia and Castellanos, and I'll put them both in the same boat — Garcia the better outfielder, Castellanos is going to be a quality hitter," Dombrowski said. "They're not going to come up and only play 30 or 40 games for us at this time." Dirks hit incredibly well against right-handers last year, and he wasn't bad against lefties, either, hitting .274 against them. OF Brennan Boesch, Quintin Berry and Don Kelly all hit left-handed like Dirks. However, Dombrowski said Boesch still has a shot to win the starting job from Dirks in spring training.
