Nationals | Danny Espinosa knocks a pair of doubles

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 20:16:41 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and a RBI during the Nationals' 6-1 win over the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Espinosa ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has filled in admirably for Washington, as the club is dealing with a slew of injuries. He has 37 runs, eight home runs and 23 RBI with a .259/.336/.438 slash line, which is nothing to scoff at for a middle infielder. FantasyScore players can target him in favorable matchups, but just note he is quite inconsistent. Through his previous eight games, Espinosa was 3-for-28 without an extra-base hit.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar out Saturday

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 11:58:03 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (hand) is not in the starting lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, June 27. INF Danny Espinosa will start at the hot corner and bat third, with 2B Dan Uggla manning second base and batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is sidelined due to a swollen hand, so Espinosa ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will slide over from the keystone position to cover third base. Uggla $1,900, 3.8% of cap) is only batting .231 this month and is not a great FantasyScore option.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar injures hand

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 16:31:40 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (hand) was removed from the game early with a hand injury Friday, June 26. 2B Dan Uggla entered the game at second base, shifting 2B Danny Espinosa to the hot corner.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) appeared to be in quite a bit of pain after being hit by a pitch, but he remained in the game shortly before being removed. The Nats have been decimated by injuries recently, with Anthony Rendon (quadriceps) going on the DL today. Espinosa ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will certainly be an everyday player with Rendon out, and Uggla ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) could become a starter, too, if Escobar's injury is serious. Espinosa is worth adding in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for middle infield depth, but Uggla should strictly be an NL commodity for desperate owners if Escobar goes on the DL, too.

Nationals | Ian Desmond out of lineup

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 14:20:56 -0700

Washington Nationals SS Ian Desmond is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 23. 2B Danny Espinosa is starting at the 6 and hitting sixth against Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Espinosa ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is worth a peek as a sleeper play at a low cost tonight, as he's hitting .356 (16-for-45) with two of his six home runs from the right side of the plate against lefties in 2015.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar scratched Saturday

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 12:54:37 -0700

Washington Nationals INF Yunel Escobar (stomach) has been scratched from the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, June 20, because of a stomach bug. As a result, SS Ian Desmond will start at shortstop and bat seventh, with INF Danny Espinosa, who was originally scheduled to play shortstop, moving over to second base. OF Bryce Harper has been moved up to the No. 3 spot in the batting order, with C Wilson Ramos now batting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Escobar ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) from all fantasy lineups. Desmond ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) only has nine hits in 63 at-bats this month and should be avoided in FantasyScore.

Nationals | Ian Desmond not starting Saturday

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 10:04:37 -0700

Washington Nationals SS Ian Desmond remains out of the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, June 20. INF Danny Espinosa will play shortstop and bat sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Desmond ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) finds himself riding the pine for the second consecutive game, so remove him from all fantasy lineups. Espinosa ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been solid at the plate of late, going 11-for-30 (.367) with two RBIs over the last seven days.

Nationals | Ian Desmond sitting vs. Pirates

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 12:25:24 -0700

Washington Nationals SS Ian Desmond is not in the starting line Friday, June 19. 2B Danny Espinosa is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP A.J. Burnett Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners will want to replace Desmond ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) in their lineups where they're able. To date, his .224/.269/.346 slash line is a considerable let down, and he also isn't stealing bases this season -- just one thus far in 2015. The Nationals have a slew of injuries, and while Espinosa ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been solid (.939 OPS over his past 13 games), it is a tough matchup. Plus, he has been maddeningly feast or famine at the dish this season.

Nationals | Danny Espinosa moved into five-hole

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 13:21:19 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa is batting fifth and playing first base against Tampa Bay Rays SP Steven Geltz Wednesday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Before Espinosa's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) five-hit showing Tuesday, June 16, he was riding a 15-for-73 (.205 batting average) run with just nine runs, three home runs and five RBI over his past 24 games. Even with the big game Tuesday, Espinosa shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar will be DH

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 15:06:52 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar will serve as the designated hitter against Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Colome Tuesday, June 16, and is batting third in the starting lineup. 3B Anthony Rendon will start at third base and is batting second, while 2B Danny Espinosa will start at second base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has recorded at least one hit in seven of his last eight games and has RBI in that span. He could be a solid starting option on FantasyScore. Rendon ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has seven hits in his last six games and could be a staring option for owners. Espinosa ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is hitting .222 this month and may not be the best option for owners.

Nationals | Danny Espinosa receives start

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 14:20:33 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa will start at first base against Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez Monday, June 15, and is batting seventh in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Espinosa ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is hitting .244 this month and has recorded two home runs and four RBI in that span. Espinosa could be a starting option on FantasyScore, but owners probably will be able to find better options to use.
