Royals | Jarrod Dyson out, Paulo Orlando in

Mon, 02 May 2016 15:32:41 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson (rest) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. OF Paulo Orlando is starting in his place in right field and batting ninth versus Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: With a southpaw on the hill, Dyson gets the night off, as Ned Yost typically elects to bench him when facing a left-hander. His replacement, Orlando, isn't a very inspiring choice to lean on, as he's registered a grand total of zero extra-base hits and zero walks in his first 30 plate appearances. Owners should probably look elsewhere for deep outfield assistance.

Royals | Paulo Orlando draws a start

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 14:50:18 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Paulo Orlando is hitting ninth Saturday, April 30, in place of OF Jarrod Dyson.

Fantasy Tip: Orlando faces lefty Wade Miley. He has just one RBI but is hitting .296 on the season. He's a basement flyer worth consideration.

Royals | Lorenzo Cain resting against Halos

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:09:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. OF Jarrod Dyson moves to center field, which allows OF Paulo Orlando to enter the starting lineup. Orlando is in right field and is batting eighth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano.

Fantasy Tip: Tropeano has held his own so far at the major league level this year, making Orlando and Dyson low-end outfield plays in daily formats. Dyson should be owned in all fantasy formats for his speed, but he can struggle to reach base, and a low lineup position will make it hard for him to return daily value.

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 11:37:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Paulo Orlando is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt Sunday, April 17. OF Reymond Fuentes will start in right field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Fuentes could be a cheap sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues since he has four hits and one RBI in his last two games.

Royals | Paulo Orlando set for uptick in playing time

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:47:32 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Paulo Orlando will be the everyday right fielder because of his defense, manager Ned Yost said Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Orlando is a low-end option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, as he owns a career .250/.264/.434 slash line. However, better than semi-regular at-bats in a solid lineup warrants owndership in those deep formats. Jarrod Dyson (oblique) will return from the disabled list soon, though, and the speedy outfield projects to cut into Orlando's playing time some.

Royals | Paulo Orlando likely starting Saturday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 13:55:19 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Paulo Orlando is expected to make his first start of the season against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Saturday, April 9, according to manager Ned Yost.

Fantasy Tip: Orlando was expected to receive the majority of starts in right field with Jarrod Dyson on the shelf, but it has been Reymond Fuentes who has started the first three games of the season. Orlando returned a .249/.269/.444 slash line through 251 plate appearances during his rookie season last year, so he is nothing more than an AL-only option and desperation flier in daily contests Saturday.

Royals | Paulo Orlando set for more PT

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 09:03:24 -0800

Kansas City Royals OF Paulo Orlando is now the front-runner for the everyday job in right field now that OF Jarrod Dyson (oblique) is expected to miss at least six weeks with a strained oblique. OFs Travis Snider, Brett Eibner and Reymond Fuentes could also see time there.

Fantasy Tip: Orlando had seven home runs and three stolen bases in limited time (241 at-bats) in 2015. There's very limited upside for the 30-year-old, but more playing time to start the season could make him useful for stolen bases in deep mixed and AL-only formats.

Royals | KC may use platoon in right field

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 07:31:34 -0800

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost hinted that OFs Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando could platoon in right field during the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson hit .250 with two home runs and 25 RBIs in 200 at-bats last season and was successful on 26 of 29 stolen-base attempts. As a left-handed hitter, he would be likely to receive most of the playing time in this projected timeshare. Orlando hit .249 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs in 241 at-bats in 2015, including a .265 mark versus left-handed pitching. Both players should be viewed as reserve outfield options for AL-only and cavernous mixed formats.

Royals | Alex Gordon on the bench

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 08:36:19 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon is not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Saturday, Oct. 3. OF Paulo Orlando will start in left field and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the near future. Orlando ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was able to post a .306 batting average in September, but owners on FantasyScore likely will be able to find better options.

Royals | Lorenzo Cain out vs. White Sox

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 14:00:00 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (knee) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. OF Paulo Orlando is starting in center field and batting ninth against Chicago White Sox OF John Danks Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Cain ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. He left the game early Wednesday, Sept. 30, due to a right knee contusion and could be in danger of being rested again this weekend. Orlando ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has played sparingly, but he checks out as a potential value play at FantasyScore Thursday.
