Marlins | Chris Johnson signs with Miami

Tue, 12 Jan 2016 10:43:42 -0800

Free-agent 3B Chris Johnson (Indians) signed an undisclosed deal with the Miami Marlins Tuesday, Jan. 12. He can spell 1B Justin Bour at first base against left-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a contact hitter, so he has the ability to hit for a decent average, but he doesn't bring much else to the table. In a platoon role for the Marlins at the corner infield spots, Johnson might be attractive as infield depth in NL-only leagues.

Indians | Yan Gomes, Chris Johnson not in

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:00:25 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes and 3B Chris Johnson are not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. C Roberto Perez is behind the plate and batting seventh, while 2B Michael Martinez draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey.

Fantasy Tip: Duffey has been very impressive in the last month for the Twins. Perez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Martinez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) are nothing more than desperation plays as salary cap relief.

Indians | Lonnie Chisenhall, Chris Johnson out

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 10:38:36 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Lonnie Chisenhall and 1B Chris Johnson are not in the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, Sept. 30. OF Jerry Sands is in right field and batting seventh, while 1B Jesus Aguilar draws a start at first base and is hitting eighth against Twins SP Kyle Gibson.

Fantasy Tip: Game 1 of this doubleheader will not be counted on FantasyScore, so you can ignore all players from both teams.

Indians | Chris Johnson out Tuesday

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:46:57 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29, against the Minnesota Twins. 3B Mike Aviles is batting ninth against Twins SP Kyle Gibson.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has seen regular playing time but has a .160 average in the past week, so the Indians are resting him for the day to try a different lineup. Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a .571 average against Gibson, so he might be a good low-cost option for your lineup.

Indians | Chris Johnson out against Minny

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 14:36:41 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23. SS Jose Ramirez is starting at third base and batting second against Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) checks out as a potential value target at FantasyScore Wednesday. Hughes has allowed a 1.75 HR/9 this year, and he has only made three starts since the beginning of August. Plus, Ramirez owns a respectable .833 OPS in September. Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has been great for Cleveland with a .349/.379/.460 slash line over 19 games. He is a potential matchup play for daily contests in his current form.

Indians | Chris Johnson sitting against Royals

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 12:29:54 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 14. 3B Giovanny Urshela is starting at third base and batting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is 16-for-46 since joining Cleveland, but he has just three runs and two RBI, so the counting stats still aren't there. Johnson is a fringe fantasy asset in deep mixed leagues, and likely should be left to AL-only and cavernous mixed formats. Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) owns a .600 OPS through 75 games this season, and he offers little upside for FantasyScore players Monday.

Indians | Chris Johnson sitting vs. Tigers

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 14:55:39 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 10. 3B Giovanny Urshela is starting at third base and batting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. The veteran has a .333 batting average over 12 games with Cleveland, but he still doesn't have a home run or RBI. Johnson is a low-end fantasy option in all formats. Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests due to a potentially strong matchup against Simon ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) Thursday.

Indians | Chris Johnson draws into the lineup

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 13:39:08 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is starting at third base and batting seventh against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Wednesday, Sept. 2. 3B Giovanny Urshela is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is hitting just .223 this season, so he could lose a few at-bats down the stretch to Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap). Johnson made a pinch-hit appearance Tuesday, Sept. 1, but this will be his first start since returning from the disabled list. It isn't a plus-matchup, either, so he likely should be avoided at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Indians | Chris Johnson activated

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 09:55:28 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson (hand) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) could work his way back into a regular role for the Tribe in the final month of the season after he went 9-for-21 (.429) after being traded from Atlanta. He's worth a look in deep mixed leagues if he's still available and you need corner infield help.

Indians | Chris Johnson rehab update

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 18:27:14 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson (hand) began a minor league rehab assignment with Class AA Akron Friday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: No timetable has been established for Johnson's ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) return. Although he is not expected to be an everyday player once he comes back, he should see ample playing time at first base, third base and in the outfield, so he's worth rostering in deep mixed fantasy formats.
