Texas Rangers RP Robbie Ross will head back to the bullpen. P Nick Tepesch could now be the favorite for the No. 5 rotation spot, but he might be competing with RP Derek Lowe now.
Fantasy Tip: Tepesch obviously gives you more upside in AL-only leagues should he win the final rotation spot.

A person familiar with the Texas Rangers' way of thinking claimed that the competition for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation is a "dead heat" between SP Robbie Ross and SP Nick Tepesch. However, several unnamed officials believe the team may want to keep Ross in the bullpen, where he excelled last season (6-0 with a 2.22 ERA). General manager Jon Daniels said the team is open to acquiring a starter from outside the organization but expects to start the season with an internal candidate.

Texas Rangers SP Randy Wells gave up one run in five innings Thursday, March 14, while giving up three hits and walking four and striking out four. "From the get go, I felt good," Wells said. "I was able to make a pitch when I needed to and it was nice to get out there, stretch it out and go five innings." The outing was likely good enough to keep him in the competition with SPs Robbie Ross and Justin Grimm for the last rotation spot. P Nick Tepesch remains a dark horse candidate.

Texas Rangers SP Robbie Ross remains in the hunt for the fifth starter spot, and he is scheduled to throw four innings in his second Cactus League spring start. He has a 3.00 ERA in nine innings this spring. P Justin Grimm is also in the mix for the fifth starter role, and he was scheduled to throw Sunday, March 10, as well.

Texas Rangers SP Randy Wells is still in the discussion with RP Robbie Ross for the team's No. 5 starting spot, and Wells easily has the most experience of the candidates. Wells has allowed only one earned run despite allowing nine baserunners in four innings in his first two spring starts. "The last time out he didn't have his changeup, and that is his weapon," manager Ron Washington said. "If he has that, he should get through his four innings with no problem."

Texas Rangers RP Robbie Ross gave up just one run in four innings on four hits and a strikeout Wednesday, March 6, and he's stating his case for the team's final rotation spot. Seven of the 12 outs he recorded were on the ground. Ross has been the most consistent of the starters in camp, and he's allowed three runs and nine hits with one walk and two strikeouts in nine spring innings.

Texas Rangers SPs Robbie Ross and Randy Wells are the top-two candidates for the No. 5 rotation spot to begin the season. SP Nate Robertson could be the mystery underdog candidate for the position after pitching three scoreless frames in relief this spring.

Texas Rangers Ps Justin Grimm, Kyle McClellan, Robbie Ross and Randy Wells are each considered internal candidates for the fifth rotation spot, and their chances improved Sunday, March 3, when leading candidate SP Martin Perez (forearm) suffered a fractured forearm.
