The San Francisco Giants have activated RP Jeremy Affeldt from the 15-day disabled list (knee) and recalled 2B Charlie Culberson from Triple-A Fresno. Culberson is expected to be in the starting lineup Sunday, May 13, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In corresponding moves, the team has optioned INF Conor Gillaspie to the minors and designated SP Travis Blackley for assignment.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Friday, May 11, that he is not wedded to the idea of starting INF Joaquin Arias every day at third base, and 3B Emmanuel Burriss at second base. Bochy said 3B Conor Gillaspie will start some games at either position.

San Francisco Giants 3B Conor Gillaspie took grounders at second base Monday, Sept. 26. Manager Bruce Bochy said Gillaspie "is going to make some noise next year." That might make 2B Jeff Keppinger, a more expensive veteran, expendable.
