The Chunichi Dragons of the Central Japanese League have bought SP Brad Bergesen from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Free-agent SP Brad Bergesen (Diamondbacks) is nearing a one-year deal with the Chunichi Dragons of the Japanese League. The Arizona Diamondbacks released him so he could go over there.

The Baltimore Orioles moved 1B Nick Johnson (wrist) to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday, July 17, to make room for P Brad Bergesen on the roster. Johnson's wrist is still bothering him.

The Baltimore Orioles are expected to recall P Brad Bergesen from Triple-A Norfolk in order to pitch out of the bullpen. Bergesen was 4-3 with a 4.03 ERA in 22 games (10 starts) with Norfolk this year. He struck out 41 and walked 23 in 80 1/3 innings there. P Miguel Socolovich will likely be optioned to make room on roster.
