|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton to begin swinging|
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 07:44:35 -0700
Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has been cleared to swing off a tee. "His hand looks good," manager Dan Jennings said. "It's healed. The scar looks well. Now he's going to start off the tee and into flips. He'll progress at his timetable. It's good to see him making strides the right way."
Fantasy Tip: Jennings was asked if Stanton could return next week, and he didn't necessarily deny it. Keep Stanton stashed on your DL in all formats.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton optimistic on return|
Thu, 09 Jul 2015 16:54:43 -0700
Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) is optimistic that he can return in four to six weeks, and he will have the stitches removed from his hand in a few days. He doesn't have full range of motion back yet, though. "It was a smooth procedure," Stanton said. "They said I had a lot of blood in there. Usually when you break something, you don't keep going after it. That's what I did -- a few extra swings. So there was a lot of blood that wouldn't normally be there. But it was smooth after that." Stanton broke his hamate bone on his left hand June 26, and he had surgery to remove the bone two days later.
Fantasy Tip: Stanton should be held onto in all leagues, but perhaps you buy low if you can use the power later in the season. If he heals on time, Stanton could be back sometime in August. Cole Gillespie ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been seeing most of the starts in right field. He's merely a low-end sleeper pick on FantasyScore, though.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton to DL|
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 13:07:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ichiro Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) figures to see more time, but the 41-year-old probably can't handle an everyday load at this point. He has a .275-1-11 line with six steals, but singles hitters aren't too valuable on FantasyScore.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton to miss 4-6 weeks|
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 07:25:53 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Stanton's ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) absence will hurt fantasy owners since he has been one of the top power producers this offseason. Owners should monitor his progress over the next few weeks. Ichiro Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) likely will receive more playing time with Stanton out but is not a must-start option at this point on FantasyScore.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton out awhile|
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 06:41:22 -0700
Updating an ongoing story, Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has a lot of swelling in his left hand, and the X-rays he had taken Saturday, June 27, did not reveal the severity of the injury. Stanton will undergo a CT scan and an MRI exam. He is expected to be out awhile.
Fantasy Tip: Given the nature of the injury, and the inability to hit with a broken bone in the hand, Stanton ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is likely looking at a lengthy absence from fantasy production. It is too early to project how long he'll be out, but fantasy owners will want to look for a replacement immediately. Ichiro Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) projects to take over in the outfield for the Marlins in the short term, but fantasy owners should aim higher for their teams.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton has broken hand?|
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 06:35:23 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The exact details aren't known, but this is clearly a devastating blow to fantasy owners. Stanton, the current home run and RBI leader, is obviously worth stashing in all formats, and until there is a clearer indication of his recovery timeline, seasonal owners shouldn't make any hasty decisions. Check back for updates.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton questionable vs. Dodgers|
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 05:30:15 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is currently leading the league in home runs and RBI, so his seasonal owners will be eagerly anticipating the results. In the meantime, Stanton should be avoided at FantasyScore until he is healthy and in the lineup. Ichiro Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) projects to enter the lineup if Stanton misses time, but Suzuki is nothing more than a low-priced flier in daily contests. Check back for updates.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton hits No. 26|
Tue, 23 Jun 2015 19:25:19 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is one of the rare hitters who is worthy of nightly FantasyScore consideration. His batting average (.260) and on-base percentage (.341) are down this season, but fantasy owners shouldn't be too picky with the league's home run and RBI leader. Expect Stanton's ratios to trend upwards and for him to remain in the hunt for the home run and RBI crowns.

|Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton has weakness?|
Tue, 23 Jun 2015 10:13:51 -0700
Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton leads the majors with 25 home runs and 64 RBI, but he has had trouble with right-handed power pitchers this season such as St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez, who he faces Tuesday, June 23. Stanton has 23 homers on pitches in the strike zone this season, and nobody else has more than 20. However, he's struggled against right-handed pitchers that come inside with hard fastballs that also possess nasty breaking pitches to the outer edge of the plate. "He's more on his heels," said one veteran baseball watcher, pointing out the technical aspect that could be driving that sort of result. "He used to be more on his toes." Stanton has swung at 61% of breaking balls from righties that are away, and he's missed 45% of them.
Fantasy Tip: It's always tempting to click Stanton's ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) name on FantasyScore because of the potential damage he can do to a baseball, but tonight may be the matchup you want to avoid when facing the hard-throwing Martinez in a pitching-friendly environment.
