Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton would be walking away from $218 million over the final seven years if he opts out of his 13-year, $325 million deal after the first six seasons, according to sources familiar with the contract. Stanton was motivated to help the team with financial flexibility that he agreed to a backloaded contract that will pay him only $30 million over the first three years. Stanton will make $6.5 million in 2015, $9 million in 2016 and $14.5 million in 2017.

The deal will include an opt-out clause and a no-trade provision, according to sources. Stanton will be able to opt out sometime around the fifth or sixth year of the deal. The deal is the largest in North American sports history.
