Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton showing off power

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 17:39:38 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs and a walk in an 8-0 win over the Washington Nationals Saturday, April 25, and he has five home runs in his last nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) took about a week to rev up, but he is back to launching homers on a regular basis. In addition to his five home runs, he has nine RBIs and nine runs scored over his last nine games, and his power potential makes him worth considering at FantasyScore on a daily basis.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton takes off mask

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 14:23:01 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton is not using his protective mask on the left side of his helmet when facing left-handed pitchers. He went 0-for-4 Wednesday, April 15, but is still using the mask against righties.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) has six hits in 26 at-bats to start the year, and he has yet to hit a home run, which is mildly concerning. It's likely just a slow start, and there's a good chance Stanton will turn things around shortly. In the right matchups while he's starting slow, Stanton is still worth playing confidently at FantasyScore.

Marlins | Giancarlo starting in funk

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 11:41:07 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton went 0-for-4 Monday, April 13, and he is hitting just .130 with no home runs to start the season.

Fantasy Tip: It's still early, so you shouldn't be too worried about Stanton ($6,100, 12.2% of cap), but it's something to keep an eye on. Perhaps you look to avoid him at FantasyScore until he shows signs of life. A matchup against Atlanta Braves starter Trevor Cahill Tuesday could be the perfect time to break out, though.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton on track

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 15:16:37 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (face) played four innings and had two at-bats in his first spring game Thursday, March 5, and he flied out twice and made two nice plays in the outfield. "It felt great," the slugger said. "I felt good in the box. We're right on track. But it was good to be in a game setting again." Any concerns about Stanton being hesitant at the plate were answered with St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez humming heaters in at 95-96 mph. Stanton isn't being held back at all this spring, and he's in the process of getting his timing down at the plate. He feels mentally and physically ready, but he is wearing a wire attachment on his helmet as a precaution.

Fantasy Tip: In the aftermath of Stanton's beaning last September and facial surgery that followed, the only real concern about him that fantasy owners had going into 2015 was how he would react to pitches this spring. Now that that doesn't seem to be a concern, you shouldn't have any hesitations making Stanton a top-five pick in drafts.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton hit in intrasquad

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 09:05:10 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton was hit by a pitch from SP Henderson Alvarez during an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday, Feb. 28, but Stanton said it didn't bother him at all. "Feels good," Stanton said. "No thoughts, 100% fine. Didn't have one thought about it." Stanton was hit with a fastball in the face last September that cut short his season.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners may have been curious how Stanton would react to pitches high and tight after his injury last year. He appears to be fine, and Stanton should be a top-five fantasy baseball draft pick. Stanton's power stroke is unmatched in the majors, and he'll have a better lineup around him in Miami in 2015.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton to don a tailored mask

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 13:06:20 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (face) will wear a personalized mask attached to his batting helmet during spring training. The 25-year-old outfielder was hit by a fastball last September and broke his orbital bone and damaged five teeth. It is not known whether Stanton will wear the mask during the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: The reigning National League home run leader, Stanton should be viewed as a potential top-five selection in drafts. He is arguably the top power hitter in baseball and will be hitting in an improved Marlins lineup this season.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton has no pain, fear

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 11:43:41 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (face) said he is fully recovered from being hit by a pitch in the face last September. His eyesight is fine, and he has no pain or fear about facing live pitching again. "What happened to me isn't one of my focuses to get past," Stanton said. "I'm just looking at this as a normal spring training." However, he will try out a face guard to protect his left cheek this spring.

Fantasy Tip: The only question about Stanton this year is whether the beaning incident will affect him at the plate for pitches up and in. It's unlikely to be a factor, but keep an eye on him in spring training. Otherwise, he's a top-five fantasy baseball pick.
