Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton could be back next week

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:42:20 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) could return from the disabled list when the team opens their next homestand against the New York Mets next weekend. Stanton is feeling better and is "about a week and a half (away)" from returning. He doesn't feel the need to go on a minor league rehab assignment and said he can get his timing back in the batting cages.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton takes swings

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 18:24:22 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) took swings against the hitting machine and live pitching Monday, Aug. 17, for the first time since suffering a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. "He's in a hitting progression," manager Dan Jennings said. "He'll start to hit off the machine and live batting practice. Then he'll progress into probably a simulated game and one or two rehab games. Time for that is to be determined."

Fantasy Tip: The good news for the Marlins and their fans, and certainly for FantasyScore players, is that a big bat appears to be rounding third and heading for home in his recovery. Once Stanton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) returns he is one of the most feared hitters in the game and an obvious must-start DFS option.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton hitting in cages

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 14:18:19 -0700

"He's progressing nice," said manager Dan Jennings. "He'll continue to do baseball activities. You know, it's just about when he gets the strength back in that hand and wrist."

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) should remain stashed in all formats. While he could return for the final month or so, his immense power can still be useful to owners looking to make a final push down the stretch.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton rehab going slowly

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 08:17:02 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) acknowledged that his recovery from a fractured left wrist is going slower than he had hoped. "Definitely slower," Stanton said. "That's the generation of your whole swing is that turnover (with) your hand and your wrist. I know what a sore wrist feels like, and now with a broken hand and the sore wrist, it takes a little longer." There remains no timetable for his return after his original diagnosis of four to six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) must be stashed in all leagues despite to slow recovery process. His elite power can still pay off down the stretch if he heals properly.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton optimistic on return

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 16:54:43 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) is optimistic that he can return in four to six weeks, and he will have the stitches removed from his hand in a few days. He doesn't have full range of motion back yet, though. "It was a smooth procedure," Stanton said. "They said I had a lot of blood in there. Usually when you break something, you don't keep going after it. That's what I did -- a few extra swings. So there was a lot of blood that wouldn't normally be there. But it was smooth after that." Stanton broke his hamate bone on his left hand June 26, and he had surgery to remove the bone two days later.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton should be held onto in all leagues, but perhaps you buy low if you can use the power later in the season. If he heals on time, Stanton could be back sometime in August. Cole Gillespie ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been seeing most of the starts in right field. He's merely a low-end sleeper pick on FantasyScore, though.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton to DL

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 13:07:57 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left hand. He'll have surgery and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Ichiro Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) figures to see more time, but the 41-year-old probably can't handle an everyday load at this point. He has a .275-1-11 line with six steals, but singles hitters aren't too valuable on FantasyScore.
