Marlins | Miami moving in outfield fences

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 12:23:09 -0800

Marlins Park, the home of the Miami Marlins, is having work done to make the outfield dimensions less daunting for hitters. The center field wall will be moved 11 feet closer to home plate, and it'll be 407 feet away in 2016. The Marlins are also lowering the fence from 11 to 13 feet to six to 11 feet. OF Giancarlo Stanton will now be taller than the fence behind him.

Fantasy Tip: While it might not make a huge difference, it's something to keep an eye on for this upcoming season. Marlins Park has been widely known as one of most pitcher-friendly parks in the league. It'll still probably remain a pitcher's park, but home runs could be on the rise starting next season.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton pain-free

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 13:13:22 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has been taking swings near his home in Southern California and is pain-free. He started swinging in the cages for the first time last week since breaking the hamate bone in his left hand. "He took 60 swings off the tee, which is just part of his first step in his offseason hitting program," Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said. "He said he felt great." Stanton played in just 74 games last year but managed to hit 27 home runs and drive in 67.

Fantasy Tip: It's scary to fathom how Stanton's season would have turned out had he not been injured. It's a positive development for him early in the offseason, and he should be at full strength for spring training. Despite being unlucky with freak injuries early in his career, he should be a no doubt first-round pick in fantasy football drafts again next season.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton hitting the weights

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:52:17 -0800

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (wrist) has been hitting the weights hard as he recovers from a fracture of the hamate bone in his left wrist, according to president of baseball operations Michael Hill.

Fantasy Tip: For a power hitter like Stanton, a wrist injury can be debilitating. However, he's had plenty of time to rest up after missing all of the second half of the 2015 season. Unless Stanton has a setback during his offseason preparation, he'll likely once again be a top-five fantasy baseball draft pick in 2016.

Marlins | Marlins Park to change dimensions

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 13:02:37 -0700

The Miami Marlins' baseball stadium, Marlins Park, will change dimensions for the 2016 season, which could potentially benefit sluggers like OF Giancarlo Stanton.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton was among those who forcefully argued for the changes, and this could benefit Stanton moving forward assuming he keeps his home-run stroke. Miami's other power hitters could see increased production as well.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton officially shut down

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 15:44:50 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has been officially shut down for the rest of the season, according to manager Dan Jennings. Stanton has been out since June 26 with a broken left hand, but he's expected to be ready for spring training next season. He was hitting .265 with 27 home runs and 67 RBI in 74 games before he was hurt.

Fantasy Tip: You should not be shocked by this development with less than a week left to play in the season. Stanton was still experiencing pain in his hand and didn't want to risk re-injury by coming back soon with the team's season over. He's a prime candidate for Comeback Player of the Year in 2016 and could even come at a slight discount as one of baseball's best pure power hitters.

Marlins | Will Giancarlo Stanton return?

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 10:22:03 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has had two setbacks with his hand this month and continues to strengthen his hand, primarily his left pinkie and ring fingers. The tendon in his hand has bothered him, too. MLB.com's Joe Frisaro thinks the next few days will determine if Stanton's return this season is likely. There are only 12 games left in Miami's season.

Fantasy Tip: We know it's late, but you should still hang onto Stanton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) everywhere in case he returns sometime this week. While he might now have his typical power, he could still do some damage. He might be even more of a risk on FantasyScore, but the price isn't crippling to take a chance.

Marlins | Another setback for Giancarlo Stanton

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 15:12:31 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton's (hand) return is once again on hold after tests earlier this week showed that his left hand has an "abnormal amount" of internal scar tissue. He hasn't taken batting practice since Monday, Sept. 14, and isn't expected to do so again until at least Saturday, Sept. 19. Stanton still hopes to returns this year, but doctors have told him that "the strength's not there." Stanton said his scar tissue won't be gone in the next couple of weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Bad news here for owners hoping that Stanton's ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) world-class power could push them to a title down the stretch. Stanton could still play before the season is over, but he may not have the strength in his hand to be his normal self. Don't expect much.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton rehab update

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 19:15:02 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) could test his hand during a simulated game, according to manager Dan Jennings. He still hopes to return to action before the end of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings said Stanton's ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) visit to a hand specialist went fine Tuesday, Sept. 15, adding that Stanton would return to action as soon as he feels that his hand and wrist are strong enough. FantasyScore owners should give him at least one full game to prove that he is completely healthy before using him again.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton visits specialist

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 22:37:37 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) went to see a hand specialist in New York Tuesday, Sept. 15. It remains to be seen when he will be able to return to the lineup, although it might be as soon as Thursday, Sept. 17, against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) could make his way back to the big club, but FantasyScore players will want to give him a game or two to get back into the lineup and knocked off the rust before trusting him again.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton could return this week

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 08:35:02 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (hand) took batting practice Monday, Sept. 14, and could return this week. He is with the team on its road trip.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is worth FantasyScore consideration any time he's in the lineup, but there's very little time left for him to get a rhythm.
