Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics 1B Kila Ka'aihue left the O.co Coliseum without comment Wednesday, June 6, after being designated for assignment. The timing is awful, as his wife is due to give birth to twins soon. OF Brandon Moss, who replaces Ka'aihue, had an out clause in his contract June 15, which manager Bob Melvin said is one reason for the move.

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Saturday, June 2, that 1B Kila Ka'aihue persevered in the crowded first baseman job battle since the spring, and he has won the regular job in a battle with 1B Daric Barton which spilled into the season. "(Ka'aihue) was the guy forecast to be the first out of here," Melvin said.
