St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said he believes OF Allen Craig (hamstring) can come off the 15-day disabled list when he is eligible Friday, June 1.

Updating previous reports, St. Louis Cardinals OF/1B Allen Craig (hamstring) took grounders at second base Thursday, May 24. Craig played second base in spot duty last season to get his bat in the lineup, but not after he broke his kneecap in June.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Allen Craig (hamstring) took batting practice, worked on fielding drills and did some running before the team's game Thursday, May 24. He hopes to return when he is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list, which would be June 1. He is not sure if he will go on a rehab assignment before returning to the team.

The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to use OF Allen Craig at first base against left-handed pitchers and 1B Matt Adams against right-handed pitchers once Allen comes off the 15-day disabled list.

St. Louis Cardinals P Kyle McClellan (elbow) has been told to rest for six weeks with a right elbow strain, and the team hopes he can avoid surgery. McClellan could return in late August or early September. OF Allen Craig (hamstring) is believed to only need the minimum 15 days on the disabled list.

The St. Louis Cardinals recalled OF Adron Chambers from Triple-A Memphis Friday, May 18, to take the roster spot of OF Allen Craig (hamstring), who was put on the 15-day disabled list.

St. Louis Cardinals OFs Carlos Beltran (knee, foot) and Allen Craig (hamstring) are both out of the lineup again Thursday, May 17. Beltran has missed four straight games with a problematic right knee, but he's available to pinch hit. There are no plans to put him on the disabled list. Craig is not available and is listed as day-to-day.
