Red Sox | Three Red Sox cut

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 08:44:37 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B/OF Allen Craig, 2B Josh Rutledge and OF Brennan Boesch were reassigned to minor league camp Monday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: All three are former fantasy diaper dandies that had AL-only consideration. Rutledge and Craig could still re-emerge into the fantasy landscape in another setting.

Red Sox | Allen Craig ticketed for minors

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 11:21:24 -0800

The Boston Red Sox appear ready to pay OF Allen Craig $9 million to open the year at Class AAA Pawtucket unless he impresses in spring training. "It makes no sense," said one Nation League official who watched him often with the Cardinals. "This is the guy you wanted up in every big situation. He's gone from that to being unable to make the major league roster."

Fantasy Tip: Craig's drastic fall from grace is hard to explain but likely has something to do with a serious foot injury he suffered before moving to Boston. For whatever reason he just hasn't been the same player and might never be again. It'll probably take an injury or two on the major league roster to open up playing time for him.

Red Sox | Boston looking to move Allen Craig

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 13:24:18 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Allen Craig is a player the team would to trade this offseason, according to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. Dombrowski said Craig went unclaimed on waivers during the season.

Fantasy Tip: Craig struggled in his limited playing time this season with a .152 batting average. It probably will be hard for the Red Sox to trade him because of his recent struggles, and he should not be a fantasy option next season.

Red Sox | Boston veterans sitting vs. Yankees

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:41:32 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz and 2B Dustin Pedroia are not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. 1B Allen Craig and 2B Josh Rutledge draw into the lineup against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) are both nothing more than low-priced fliers at FantasyScore Thursday. Rutledge owns a lowly .354 slugging percentage this season, and Craig has a .131/.232/.190 slash line since joining Boston last year. Aim higher in daily contests Thursday.

Red Sox | David Ortiz sitting vs. Yankees

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 12:30:13 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 28. 1B Allen Craig draws into the lineup and is batting sixth against New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) owns a .134/.237/.195 slash line through 61 games with Boston over the past two years, and he cannot be started with confidence in any fantasy format, including at FantasyScore. Ortiz ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) continues to be a high-end option when starting, as he has a .275/.355/.638 line with seven home runs and 24 RBI through 22 games in September.

Red Sox | David Ortiz sitting vs. Rays

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 07:22:07 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup for the Boston Red Sox Sunday, Sept. 13. 1B Allen Craig is batting sixth as the designated hitter against Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: After hitting career home run No. 500 Saturday, Sept. 12, Ortiz ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) draws a day off Sunday. Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) enters with a horrific .123/.233/.182 slash line with Boston dating back to last season. He is nothing more than a desperation flier for FantasyScore players.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez sitting vs. Phillies

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 12:44:01 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 4. 1B Allen Craig draws into the lineup at first base and is batting fifth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) hasn't been a major disappointment when in the lineup, so fantasy owners will want to take a long look at replacements for their stretch drive. His .193/.223/.333 slash line since Wednesday, July 1, isn't doing your virtual team any favors, after all. Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has been awful since joining the Red Sox last season and sports a .130/.244/.192 slash line over 168 plate appearances with the team. You should aim higher at first base in all fantasy formats, including FantasyScore.
